The NBA's decision was made to ban him the minute the first sponsor pulled out. And the owners' will have no choice but to vote him out. I don't care about debating the issue of is it just deserved or not. That's for the other owners to decide. I have seen enough grandstanding on both sides of this to the point that I turn the channel when the story comes up again.

Bottom line... the NBA must protect its' image and corporate sponsors and Sterling will still be a very rich man when its all over.

I'm 43 freakin years old man,I don't need to "argue" the point with you or
anyone else for that matter. I stated what I tried to come across and was
using "Freedom Of Speech" because let's face it in this day and age our
amendments are withering away on all fronts. I'm sure someone else
will be more then happy to argue the meaning of life with you. Have a nice day.

Freedom of speech doesn't give one a private right to be a racist piece of shit in a public, business world. If you worked for my company, I would fire you for saying the things Sterling said. If you have a problem with him "being conned into what he said", how about stop being a racist piece of shit in one's own home? The times are a'changing my friend. It's no longer "acceptable" to be racist, even in the space of your own home. The Constitution doesn't protect people from being racists from private companies. If you're talking about "freedom of speech", the government doesn't have a right to take things away from you for whatever viewpoint. For a private company, the private company has EVERY fucking right. That's the beauty of capitalism.

Mayweather definitely isn't more racist, as that would be pretty hard to accomplish, but it doesn't matter because he will never own the Clippers.

How is Mayweather more racist?

This is the one I remember.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. rips Manny Pacquiao in racist video rant - ESPN

"I'm on vacation for about a year, about a year," Mayweather said. "As soon as we come off vacation, we're going to cook that little yellow chump. We ain't worried about that. So they ain't gotta worry about me fighting the midget. Once I kick the midget ass, I don't want you all to jump on my d---. So you all better get on the bandwagon now. ... Once I stomp the midget, I'll make that mother f----- make me a sushi roll and cook me some rice."

That's not as racist as saying black people smell and attract vermin and then practice housing discrimination while also treating players on his team like mandingo fighters and not wanting his girlfriend to be seen with black people.

Haha I'm not interested in getting into a valuation of racist comments or deciding which comments are more acceptable. I got the impression that he maybe hadn't heard the Mayweather comments before.

Agreed, when you look at the things Sterling done over the years it is as racist and bigoted as it gets.

So now we're arbitrarily arguing over what is more racist.

Toe-may-toe, toe-mah-toe. Po-tay-toe, po-tah-toe. Let's call the whole thing off.

A distinction without a difference ...

Sorry but this whole thing is getting way out of hand. Should give him a small fine and call it a day. Im sure everyone has said something in PRIVATE that they would not want others to hear.

It is all about the $$$$$$. Our own IE bagman: "The NBA's decision was made to ban him the minute the first sponsor pulled out." I agree in part but mostly disagree. There was not only the first sponsor but there was a thundering, stomping stampede of sponsors destroying everything in its wake running away form this steaming, stinking pile of shit. RIP Donald Sterling. NBA owners statement: "We don't care if you are a racist but when you start costing us a lot of dough, you simply got to go."

I'd assume it's contractual, so Silver can sue Sterling if he refuses to pay up. But if they're going to force him out anyway, the fine seems superfluous. Either fine him and let him stay, or force him out. Doing both is stupid.

I suspect you will see the fine designated to go to some type of diversity program. Of curse that's assuming they are able to collect the fine, which won't happen for a long time as that will be tied up in the courts for so long, Sterling will probably die before it's resolved.

What are any of your opinions on these items of fallout from this situation:

UCLA Rejects $3M Gift From Donald Sterling For Kidney Research « CBS Los Angeles

and

NAACP: Sterling’s Lifetime Ban Isn’t Enough, Want To Meet With Silver « CBS DC

For me the first one is just sad because the people it really hurts are those with kidney problems. When it comes to bad people or bad money, if there is anything that makes any kind of bright spot come about it would be its use in charity or research to help the sick and injured. He will not be thought of as a hero, but at least the $$$ is put to good use.

The other story is just weird considering the NAACP was about to give him an award until this nugget found its way to the surface.

UCLA is Fing stupid. I don't care how "dirty" the money is, funding for health research is funding for health research. Take the money and show the world that you can do more good with his $3 mill than that racist scumbag ever could.

NAACP is too funny, because evidently they were fine with his documented prior history of being a racist PoS, oh, but now, noooo, you gotta go. This is exactly what Bomani Jones was hammering. NAACP and the sponsors pulling out are nothing more than a clear case of covering their asses.

Reps, sir! I am going to repost your link to make it even easier to play. In all of the political and economic discussions on IE, people seem to fall on one of two sides. Those that would think this guy is some crazy minority spouting gibberish, or those that understand exactly what he is saying, and regretfully agree with every point.

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/g6bLKe9-Mto" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

To me, if you level any personal criticism toward this guy, attempt to feign ignorance or deny his carefully crafted points, or if you just get angry and call him a racist, you are both a racist and a classist.

And it is those like Sterling, and the idiots that are actually responding to the salacious nature of this, other than the ongoing overt racism of the situation that art the real reason this world is a little smaller, colder, and uglier that it would otherwise be.

Thank you for posting the original video. I tried to do this on my earlier post but just didn't know how to upload videos. (Thus the numerous edits!)

Back of the napkin, and assuming it's similar to the NFL:

NBA, LLC (probably not its real name) is constituted by 30 equal Members and governed by an LLC Agreement/"Constitution" if you will.

One member of the LLC is Clippers Basketball Team L.P. (probably not its real name), which is controlled by Sterling.

Silver can ban Sterling the human from activities per his powers as commissioner, but the Limited Partnership still receives the rights/distributions under the LLC Agreement/Constitution.

So then, under the "Constitution", NBA, LLC can liquidate the Limited Partnership's interest in the LLC upon the affirmative vote of 75% of the Members, if certain conditions are met allowing the vote to take place. There will probably be a lengthy procedural process as to whether the vote can take place, decided by a arbitrator whose opinion is binding.

Whether the vote will actually take place, or whether the League will just use it as leverage to force a sale is anyone's guess. But one thing's for sure: Sterling's screwed.

They will not and cannot take his team. Force of sale, maybe. Take, no. He will receive compensation for it.

Great get! For your information, with Youtube, specifically there is a Sharing tab and beneath that an embed code tab. Copy the embed code and paste it in your post. Remember, you need to click on the Youtube tab first if you are looking at the video from someone else's web site.

Happy hunting!

I tend to agree. But, if you take that attitude, then you are asserting that a certain threshold of racism must exist before there is outrage.

Where do you draw the line?
