I think he's going to be playing above 230 by his sophomore year. Probably too big for safety? IDK.

I don't think he'd have much trouble slimming down if a move to S was in order. Right now the need at WLB is greater, so he's bulking up for it.

Any chance we see him at RB, considering there are only 4 at the position now, and one is gone next year? Or is the need too great at OLB?

Tim O'Malley from Scout has said from the beginning that Drue would be the one recruit from 2014 to see the field without question. Could be ST or whatever but he always singled Drue as the first guy.

If it was January or February and we didn't have any running back commits in the 2015 class, then I could see that as a possibility. I think the staff would want to recruit true running back prospects before they made any type of position change for Drue.

Supposedly 6'2", 230# running mid 4.4s right now and in prime condition.

So one thing that i've noticed from some of the guys that Kelly and staff recruits they are gym rats. Drue, Trumbetti, Deeb, etc. Their all self proclaimed gym rats that love to work out and keep their bodies in top shape. Considering what we saw with Tuitt last year, that matters. I always thought Drue would be a ST ace in the mold of Collinsworth and Jackson early on. With some of the news thats coming out about his measureables lately, I wouldn't be surprised if he can get on the field on some other capacity.

Not to be a debbie downer, and I think Drue is gonna do great things at ND....but "athleticism" and playing football are based on a lot more than weight and straight line speed. I know you guys know this, but I'm just saying, I'm not calling him "Jaylon Smith athletic" or comparing him with guys in the NFL until I see him open his hips/change directions/etc.

At 6'2", 230, if he runs a legit 4.55 I'd be very happy.

Personally, I'm always skeptical of HS 40-times, unless they're registered at the Opening or something similar. I still don't believe Baratti ran a laser timed 4.45 at his size, lol.

There was, but they could have ran it at 35 yards for all I know.

A laser 4.45 at 230 is insane. He would be a 6-star and draftable as a high schooler.

I just think it's more likely something wasn't 100% accurate with that 'speed camp' setting than it being legit.

Quotes from Wiltfong about Tranquill who he seems to have little doubt concerning Tranquill's athleticism.
Irish recruits among elite | The Journal Gazette

“I’d be surprised if Drue Tranquill is not making an impact on special teams from Day One with his athleticism and ability to run,” Wiltfong said. “He’s going to walk in and be one of the more athletic people on Notre Dame’s roster right away.

“I do think he is an impact guy. I do think he will play. I do think he will be a major contributor during his Notre Dame career.

“He is a guy that went a little under the radar, but he is as athletic as anybody in Notre Dame’s class.

“He brings a different type of athleticism.”

Hopefully Drue can keep Notre Dame's luck going of getting studs out of Fort Wayne

Josh Hemboldt was another guy who was all over Drue's recruitment early on.

Looks like a great athlete in his film and I wouldn't be surprised if he plays on special teams. He has to consistently shed blocks thrown by college offensive lineman before he gets any tick at OLB. Tough task for a kid who played SS/WR in high school.

Played linebacker last year on defense and was a TE/RB/Wildcat QB on offense.
