I think he sticks unless we have a terrible year and things get so negative no one wants to be around the program.

He loved the visit from Cooks and Hiestand, he already has a great relationship with them so they talked about lots of things. He is going to Arky to visit a friend completely non-football related. (Although the friend does play football there). Also he was in Baton Rouge for an academic conference on Feb 15, (LSU's junior day) not just to go to junior day I guess. When asked where he stands with his commitment to ND? He responded, "I am committed to Notre Dame. I plan on visiting sometime this summer."

Well, don't shoot the messenger here but there was an update on 24/7 that I found equal parts even-handed, factual, and troubling.

Basically, LSU has been making a strong push ever since they got Jeff Grimes. Tillery is definitely listening to LSU, but the reporter got the impression he was still very solid to ND and happy with his choice. Cited everything we knew about academics being important and ND being a dream school and things like that.

The part that is troubling is that is was basically out-and-out confirmed that his parents want him at LSU. That's just so sad to me. It came up as a poster said his parents volunteered that information without him even asking when he sat by them at state track meet. LSU reporter then said, "yeah, but it comes down to what Jerry wants, and he's firm right now."

So yeah... all suspicions/rumors/fears that his mom (and dad?) are pushing LSU seem to be confirmed. SMH.

Dude needs to get back to campus and bring his parents so they can get an education on what their son would be passing up to play at LSU.

Which is crazy because she was all over II talking about ND this and ND that. How they've been fans there entire lives. Basically just trolling the ND fanbase or plain lying. Not sure what she had to gain but it definitely is on the weird side of things.

Is it possible that they're providing Jerry with the same sort of public cover that Chris Brown's dad did for him? Turning down the local powerhouse in favor of ND is never easy, but it's especially difficult for kids in the South.

It seems more likely to me that the Tillerys are telling the local fanboys what they want to hear to spare Jerry the heat of spurning LSU.

Shouldn't they reverse that then?? 'Jerry wants to go to LSU, but we are insisting he go to ND for the degree"

?? That would take more heat off the kid than making it look like he's spurning LSU AND his parents....

That's what I think, rather than telling the fans 'hey we're hoping he goes to LSU. Get on him with us!'.

I'll feel a lot better when he makes a visit to ND. He's had a string of visits to LSU.

It seems more likely to me that the Tillerys are telling the local fanboys what they want to hear to spare Jerry the heat of spurning LSU.

I mean, it totally could just be them deflecting. Like...

LSU Fan: OMG LSU IS THE BEST!
Parents: Oh yeah totally, we want Jerry to go there but he's got to make his own decision.
*end of conversation*

versus...

LSU Fan: OMG LSU IS THE BEST!
Parents: Well, we like this and that about Notre Dame.
LSU Fan: OK YEAH BUT LSU IS THE BEST AND LET ME TELL YOU WHY.

Personally... I've found myself many times in conversation with "SEC" (thanks, Missouri... now I have "SEC" fans in my family) fans just trying to avoid discussion/confrontation preemptively saying stuff literally like "oh yeah ND totally sucks. we're awful and will never win anything." just to nip the conversation in the bud.

I definitely don't want to start a witch hunt here... but it's weird that so many sources have now routinely said they want him at LSU.

That might further reduce pressure on Jerry, but it would likely increase pressure (and might have tangible negative consequences) for the parents. If the goal is to dial down pressure on the family as whole, I could see them taking this strategy. I use it all the time when I'm confronted with a high-pressure sales pitch. "Listen buddy, it sounds like you've got a great product, but my wife has final say on this sort of thing, so there's not much I can do." :whoknows:

Then it's just an issue of limiting media access to Jerry himself.

While maybe/slightly selfish it's understandable for parents to want their kids close.

However, I think there is a significant difference in wanting and pushing.

Not surprising at all, sadly. I've been saying for months that ND should accept a 3rd OL commit (turned out to be Ruhland) and then should still recruit the crap out of a stud 4th o-linemen, just in case Tillery flipped.

And like it or not, with the local pressure being so immense and his parents being in LSU's corner (seemingly), this will be a battle all the way to NSD. Can't get caught with our pants down like we've done in the past.

I am not worried about Tillery-- I think he ends up at ND.

If the parents want him close to home that's sweet, and I don't think they have any reason to keep it to themselves. ND is undeniably a better decision for opening doors, but if you like your life in LA, who cares!

We should DEFINITLY recruit a 4th stud OLineman, what's the worst result?

Just because you asked :)

We lose Tillery recruiting a 4th and never land another.

Whether mom is trying to deflect pressure or she really wants him at LSU, I still like where we stand.

He might be solid to ND, but I'd feel more confident if he had any intentions of visiting this summer.
