'15 CA QB Blake Barnett (Arizona State Transfer)

Ricky Town has almost every offer in the country. Maybe the top arm in the country and strength wise. Scout, rivals, 24/7 all have him in the top two QBs in the country. Plenty of head coaches in the country think he is damn good as well as people who get paid to analyze recruits. You're telling me there are 98 players in the country better then Ricky Town? Ha

That is too low, but he's definitely not top 10. This is very similar to my Jashon convo from his thread. I could go down the list of best available player and there are plenty of guys that come into play first.

You have no idea what you're talking about. His arm strength is average. And he's a statue with horrendous mobility. And he's not even close to having offers from "everyone in the country."

Using SI's "early" top 25, town does not have offers from:
Oregon, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Auburn, Michigan State, LSU, Wisconsin, South Carolina, Notre Dame, Baylor, Clemson, Missouri, Ole Miss, A&M, Oklahoma State, Duke, or Utah State. So 17 out of the top 25 teams haven't offered him. There are only a couple teams that don't run a purely pocket passing pro-style offense that want him... or, to put it another way, because of his limitations there are a lot of coaches who simply aren't interested in him at all.

I don't know if there are 91 players better than him, but I do know that he went for an Elite 11 invite twice and couldn't even beat out the QBs he was up against in the camp. And that's a contest that plays entirely to his strengths (re: mobility and athleticism are of negligible importance). If you're the number 1 player in the country, how are you getting beat out TWICE by just people at your CAMP?

Never once did I say he was the number one player in the country. He has plenty of mobility ,he's not going to beat Blake Barnett in a foot race but he can still move outside of the pocket. What QB does have every offer? Barnett neither Rosen has every offer. I am talking big one's and Town has plenty of them. Stanford, Bama, Texas, USC, UCLA, FSU and Georgia. Some damn good offers.

What if Blake Barnett was ranked 98 or whatever? All Barnett has done is played one year and looked good in some camps. But he has the potential to be a super star QB in the right system just like Town IMO. Every major recruiting service has Town as one of the best QB's in the country. A lot of schools thought he was pretty damn good too. intangibles is rated a 10 by 24 7. Maybe one of the most important QB traits out there.

I wouldn't trade Blake Barnett for anyone other then Josh Rosen but I don't understand the disrespect to Ricky Town. Gonna be a damn good football player and I am not looking forward to facing him at SC

Seriously, when you form these thoughts do they make sense to you. First of all its Peyton Manning. Second, he's coming off the best statistical season in the history of football and lost in the Super Bowl. That some how makes him a dinosaur? You have once again convinced me that you have no idea what you are talking about. Ask Michael Vick how all that athleticism is treating him. Or RGIII after he fell apart last year. There is clearly a place for mobile QB's but to act like there isn't a place for Brady, Manning etc. is straight ignorant.

Gotta jump in here. GB, I agree we'd be up in arms if this were Barnett. We're up in arms if it's ANYONE from ND. But EVERY fanbase is like that. We're no different.

As for Town, I just don't think he's as good as previous advertised, and I'm not alone on this. As LAX said, he has had a VERY mediocre camp season so far. I mean, he not only did he get beaten out by unheralded Blake Barnett, but he wasn't even a top 5 performer there by some accounts I read. And he wasn't a beast in his next camp either.

Add to that, Saban wasn't exactly begging Town to stay. Town admitted as much in an interview just the other day, saying that Saban never called him, never even returned his email (lol at Town for breaking up over email), instead having his secretary call him to wish him luck.

Put it this way...do you really think Nick effing Saban would allow a superstar top 20-50 player, especially a QB, to decommit without a fight? It's like he was almost saying, "Good, because we missed on your evaluation. Saves me having to take away your offer later." Instead of chasing Town, Nick offered QB's he thought were better, Barnett included.

So while Town is on the decline, Barnett is on the rise in not only scouts' eyes because of his film and camps, but more importantly coaches' eyes as well (Bama and Oregon...that is about as good as it gets for a QB). He deserves the bump, and I think when you see the updated rankings from other sites, you'll see the same thing.

I think we agree in principle, I just don't describe what you're talking about as "QB issues" that needed fixing. They were just a series of weird shit that all happened in a row. Based on what we knew about Clausen, Crist, and Everett before they actually played (and left early and got suspended), we looked like we should have been in good shape all through those years. I agree that things look good going forward but we could be heading straight for another suspension, early departure, or bust just like we had in the recent past.

I agree with this completely. I ran short on time while posting yesterday to fully develop what I was thinking. The word "issues" was a general term to describe what ND has went through as a whole at the position the last few years. I don't necessarily feel it was a fundamental problem with coaching, development, etc. It's just like you said, "a series of weird shit." And you're right, the prospects of Clausen - Crist - Golson (hell even Hendrix to a degree) looked mighty fine at the time. The same could be said for this next group. We'll just have to see. My gut tells me ND will be more than ok moving forward at this position though.
