If you were a Notre Dame COMMIT, would you go to LSU camps? Would you wear it at a different camp and then have your picture taken with it (all the while knowing what drama/angst it will cause among the fanbase of a school you supposedly love)?

You'd have to be a blind homer not to see that there is major smoke here, and there has been for awhile. Doesn't mean he won't end up Irish, but it does mean ND should be vigilant. I've said it for awhile now that ND better be recruiting their 3rd lineman AND their 4th, just in case Tillery flips. It's happened to us in the past...

If I was a recruit, I would probably try to visit as many places as I can. These schools are nice enough to give me gear, I would probably wear it at there place as a sign of respect and gratitude to them for being involved with me. I would try to live this recruiting process to the fullest to be honest. The whole thing is out of control if you ask me, but you can't blame a kid for taking advantage of all this.
Jerry might flip in the end. Someone always does. You always have to keep recruiting until the end. Kelly and company know that. Personally, I just don't get rattle anymore with every single little thing that happen on twitter. I would not have any hair left if I did. If he happens to de-commit at one point, I'll be a little disappointed and, then, move on. Not much more I can do.

The best way to look at this is a juxtaposition.

If you had an LSU verbal from Indiana who visited ND multiple times, was seen wearing ND gear, and had parents who don't appear to be in our corner (although that's all a bit fuzzy) most people would 100% be expecting a flip. So... that's not good.

However, I can't imagine any intelligent parent looking out for their child's best interest would want their kid to go to a shit school like LSU and be surrounded by a bunch of criminals as his peer group. Similarly, you have to think a kid as reportedly intelligent as Jerry wouldn't want to go to a place like LSU. I know any non-Louisiana regular student who was serious about academics would be embarrassed to attend an institution like that.

So in the end, I think that wins out over local pressure. You'd have to have horrible guidance or be incredibly illogical to choose LSU over ND. And by all reports and interviews on Power Hour, etc. I don't get the impression that the Tillerys are stupid people.

No one, has any idea what drives these kids.

I have had fun watching a couple of threads lately.

If I lived in the shadow of a powerful program, I would be wearing their gear, if I were planning on going away to ND, just to keep the local fan base appeased. If I were a 17 year-old that could play football that well, I would be doing anything to make sure factious rivalries did not cramp my social-life, and impinge on my circle of friends.

Hell, I had a kid (oldest son) that wore a size 15 shoe when he was fourteen. I would have taken a pair of basketball sneaks that said UM or OSU if they had been free! Those darned things were expensive and hard to get in those days. I bet, as hard to get and expensive as clothes for a kid that is 6'7" and 310 lbs., today.

PS. In advance, I'll also add that I don't want to hear any bullshit about academic elitism either. There was a transfer from LSU to ND during my time that got an A in a class that he never showed up to and didn't even know he was enrolled in. Did not play a revenue sport either, so you just have to wonder the depths of academic fraud for the big men on campus. Even with that, I think they still graduate around or a little below 70% of the African American football players.

I think at the end of the day the academics and other factors that make ND what it is have a good chance of winning out.

Nobody is blaming the kid. We're simply stating the obvious which is we're basically his leader and his commitment is suspect right now. Also, if a kid wants to visit as many schools as he can, great go for it. However, don't commit and tell the coaches one thing and do another. That is a fault.

You'd be surprised at how many parents simply think a degree is a degree and the difference in them is their athletic ranking.

Interesting looking at his Twitter today though. Lots of ND related stuff being tweeted and retweeted. Who knows.

Okay, I guess we can all take a deep breath and relax for the next few days or until someone sees him in an LSU t-shirt again.

I honestly don't think he looked good in those drills. Obviously just a small sampling, but eek!

Yeah. He got beat ugly twice and then held him on the third. Not very good.

That Tyler Moore kid (0:34)… Oh my… that kid looked like a beast!

And he's a 3 star from TX… our specialty.

Boy, if that's a recent picture of Jerry then he needs to bulk up.

The simple fact that he took home some honors says that was not representative of his body of work for the weekend. He's gonna be good.

Totally agree with that. I just would have liked to see a few of the good reps instead of what was probably his worst reps of the camp.

Yeah, that's a safety from Texas named Dionte Thompson who's 6'2 180. Tillery reportedly clocked in at 310 but ran a 5.05 40. And 247 says he has "skinny ankles."

I lived in LA for quite a few years before finally escaping and I can say without a doubt that LSU owns Louisiana and its players more than any school I have known. Texas is a pretty close second but lately that has waivered a bit. In Louisiana, every single thing is LSU. You cant go anywhere that LSU isnt shoved down your throat.

Now I agree, LSU is a crap school. But it is a crap school that has support of 100% of the Louisiana residents. Make no mistake, this kid and his family will be pushed every single day between now and signing date to choose LSU. The residents of LSU actually take it personally when someone would *gasp* dare to consider a school that can actually do something for them academically in life over their beloved LSU. They dont want to hear that LSU is the bottom of the barrel academic wise or that with a degree from LSU, you may be able to get a job with the city...of Baton Rouge. It is all about Tiger Town, wins (which they do...a lot), Tiger Stadium on a Saturday night and the purple and gold.

All Im saying is that it takes a strong kid and family support to make a kid choose to leave. Im reading his family isnt really behind it which really makes me believe in the end, he will flip back to LSU. I could be wrong and I truly hope that I am.

Having spent 3.5 years just over the state line into MS, you are right. There is just something in the way they are raised to believe that LSU is a special place. However bad it is academically for their athletes, let's not forget that you can still get a quality education there just like any other of the bottom feeders. They have been improving their status over the past 4 years in nearly every program, and a lot of people are trying to get into their vet school. I can see people making the case for them, but for big time football with big time education guaranteed there's not too many places like ND.

Remember when Chris Brown's dad made some disturbing comments to a local reporter about SCar? Turns out he was just trying to take some pressure off his son. This could be a similar situation.

There is a Scout video that is better but I can't share. He talks more about the Irish, his commitment and saying he is solid with ND.

So... have you read The Grapes of Wrath yet? You haven't.
Well, can you still share your general thoughts on the Great Depression?
What kinds of foods would you struggle to go without?
I see... So... if you had to go with a favorite color, purple or yellow?
And do you like squash? Butternut squash bread in autumn. That's amazing.

This interview was kinda funny.
