Would he be even going to Gorman if it wasn't for his father's money though?

There are raw talents around the country that don't get the opportunity to be sponsored at a private school and their parents dont have the money to pay for it. Would Nicco have been sponsored by someone to attend Gorman if he was just some kid from Vegas in a middle class home?

I was following you until this point. Why does it matter how he got to Gorman? What matters is product on the field while he's there. It's not like 6th-8th grade "recruiting" for any private schools for any of the major prep school sports (football, basketball, hockey, lacrosse) is an exact science.

Since he's been at Gorman he's been a multi-year varsity player for one of the top teams in the country and has played well against top competition. He then performed extremely well in camps. Why does it matter who is footing the bill for his prep education?

My point is that he wouldn't have been invited to camps if he would have went to a Nevada public school probably. He doesn't seem talented enough that he would have been sponsored to go to Gorman if his parents couldn't afford it.

Put 2 and 2 together... and the question arises of whether he is a product of being put in the best situation at all times. Being able to attend a private school with a good team, getting to go to the best camps, etc. I'm not saying that he isn't talented or undeserving... I just ask myself if he would have had the opportunity to be where he was without the money? Would he be even offered if he went to a public school? Maybe... but that was my question.

Put the pitchforks down, fellas. Just drumming up convo.

I think he plays for the team because he's one of the best corners they have regardless of name. He's not just on the team he is a starting corner.

I would always agree that some kids do benefit from having the best of the best at all times. From training to facilities, etc. However, it still takes hard work especially for Nico to get to where he is. Due to his size.

I do think that part of the deciding factor here is school. We are developing a pipeline to Gorman and he is on par with other kids that fit this profile so the school pushes him over the top for the offer. I don't think thats necessarily a bad thing. He has an experience at Gorman from an athletic standpoint that is similar to that at ND so that familiarity could help him thrive. Gorman is big time football and so is ND.

-I'll add that Kelly has always said that he wants to recruit out of programs that are similar to ND. Now we'll break profile for obvious players but the likeness of programs is important for setting expectations.

It's not even that. There's no denying that having billionare donors is a positive for the University's endowment (already one of the biggest in college sports). That endowment is how we pay for better facilities, pay for top coaches and pay for big time marketing. All of those things are how you get recruits right now.

Just for sh!ts and giggles.

The top 20 biggest University endowments. Article is from Feb 2013.

Phil Knight just cleaned out his couch cushions and it put Oregon in the top 3.

He's staying from Friday through Sunday. TJ posted that it will be a surprise if he doesn't pop shortly.

Still don't understand this offer. Frickin 5'9" safety. Best case scenario is that he is a good slot corner I guess. Kid will never start injuries not withstanding.

If a kid can play football, and play it well, it doesn't really matter if he's a bit shorter than what's prototypically required.

Example, Nickell Robey, a 5'7" starting CB for USC, a three year starter, didn't get drafted due to his size (barely 5'7" 170 Ibs), signed with Bills, and absolutely killed it as the team's nickel cornerback.

Don't let size, but more importantly, height, deceive ability.

Kid was getting schooled at a recent camp he went to. He is too slow to play corner and too short and light for safety.

Come on mago, I don't really want his commitment either but you can drop a bomb like that without clarification.

Can we trust the staff that they see something in this kid?? I know I do, the staff knows football just a wee bit better than me.......I will let them do their jobs.

Plus, maybe the family wants to make a large donation........just saying.....;)

Yeah I was looking. I thought I heard the opposite.

Most recent camp he went to was LA NFTC. I've seen no reports on him from there, but from other camps he got reviews varying from good to great.

Tyrann Matthieu is 5'9", is not the fastest guy in the world and was a low 3*, but he can straight up ball.

We don't know who, if anyone has committed. If there was a commitment I''m betting on Trevor Ruhland

Could be both, I'm shocked Ruhland didn't pop. TJ never says whether a kid will committ so for him to say this I'm taking it to the bank.

It's gotta be one of them that popped. Question is if Fertitta is staying the weekend does that make it more likely that he already committed or no?

I don't understand the doubt on this kid. His size is on the low end but reports said good ball player at camps and he is Army All American if I am not mistaken. Do kids get invited to that game if they are "meh" and have rich parents? Honestly have no idea. I think his parents wealth have a small amount of play but not enough to justify an actionable offer. Something he does seems like it's right if we accepted his commitment.

Welcome to the family!
