After spending 7 years working as a subcontractor for the DOE in Radiological Control, I've went back to my "black" roots.

I'm a lease operator.: A "pumper." I was a contract pumper for 2.5 years in early college before going to work for the DOE. I also rough necked and mud logged for a stint.

The wages are ok, but I haven't got anyone to supervise and my work is my own. My name only goes as far as my wrench takes me.

And I'm working on my 3rd degree. Pet. Eng.

The MBA is on the back burner for a few years, if ever again.

See I've actually been pleasantly surprised by my classmates where I go. It's very much been a "we're all in it together" sort of experience for the most part. And I'm about to finish up 2L so I don't really think dynamics are going to change much since everyone's place in the class is already set.

I was going to say the one thing I've noticed about law students more than anything is a distinct lack of social skills (at least at a higher clip than your normal group of 20-somethings).

But there are a fair share of very smart, very funny, very fun folks around here too. I definitely fit in with my fellow law classmates more than my big-Midwest-party-school alumni. And not because I like to argue :/

I'm in tax at a Big 4. I mostly do planning because my background is in law and I've got no accounting background at all. Luckily that saves me from the compliance stuff. I'm in international and our workload isn't as bad as our colleagues in other practices. Personally, I love it. But there are definitely people I see in the office that look like they are on about 3 hours of sleep and not too happy about it.

Probably due somewhat to the market itself. I think most people realize there is a "new normal" now for lawyers and big law. It has humbled a lot of law students and young lawyers. At least that's what I see from my 3L class.

I imagine one would have the resources to put together one hell of a ND pump up video. :waiting:

I own a commercial collection agency with offices in Pittsburgh and Atlanta. So if anyone owes you or your clients money, get at me for that IE special I just started running 48 seconds ago.

My last four years at Sallie Mae were spent managing the IT side for the collection companies they own. The first year was an eye opening experience!

What are your first two degrees? Why Pet. Eng? Salary? I have a cousin (through marriage) who just completed his Pet Eng degree and he was picked up right out of college. Very good field if you find the work interesting and your capable of completing it.

I think this is true about many groups that require greater drive or intellect or both. The comp. sci classes I took had quite a few strange birds but it was no different than some upper level chemistry courses, namely physical chemistry.

This is mainly due to their physical exposure to many different chemicals over long periods of time. There is a reason why the stereotypical scientist is a looney bird in a lab coat....

Job Hazard Analysis for PCs...
  • Exposure to ionizing radiation when doing work with radioactive materials and/or with defective laboratory equipment with an internal radioactive source.
  • Exposure to non-ionizing radiation: infrared radiation, visible light, ultraviolet light, laser radiation, microwave and radio-frequency radiation; and radiation from very-low and extremely-low frequency electromagnetic fields; exposure may occur when working with defective laboratory equipment and/or because of incorrect work habits.
  • Exposure to carcinogenic, mutagenic and teratogenic substances.
  • Exposure to substances that can damage the nervous system

I am the head coach of a junior high football team outside of my hometown Muncie. This past season we went 10-0. I also am an assistant coach for our varsity team who in their second full year of varsity football had a winning record and won its first sectional game. I am also a full-time student at Ball State majoring in Secondary Social Studies Education.

If you want more details, you can check out my linked-in. https://www.linkedin.com/pub/beau-benken/72/395/b56

Feel free to add me. And bump all my skills! :)

Currently a substitute teacher at a local public school. I have been doing this for two years while I search for a full time Social Studies position. Of course the market is tough in education right now, especially since I'm not in Math or English. Hopeful to find a job this cycle, or I might have to start looking at other career options. If anyone has any ideas they would be greatly welcomed.

I also coach 7th & 8th grade boys' basketball for the last two year as well as an assistant for JV/Varsity baseball. A lot of time, but I love it!

Ever dabbled in environmental law? Lots of need for property transactions, due diligence, and redevelopment of urban properties. You could basically start your own firm fairly quickly.

With all of you big wiggs showing off your fancy jobs, you MF-s better not become shy when the NCAA screws up and decides it's time to pay players.

I expect all of this ND money to represent to the recruits! Lol.

I am a fee based financial advisor. I hope to continue to grow my firm and over time give it to my 2 boys.

Independent FA myself.

I might suggest having the boys cut their teeth elsewhere before bringing them under your wing.

I've seen a lot of failed father/son teams (in the sense of the son not sticking around) over the years and seems to boil down to 1) son is not qualified enough, needs more seasoning, 2) father can't let go and/or expects the son to starve while his sits around waiting for dad to die.

I am a PGA Golf Professional at Brookside Golf Club in Pasadena, Ca. I am sure you have seen the course. We are adjacent to the Rose Bowl, so cars park on it during games. When the blimp flies overhead for a camera shot you can see all the cars on the course. I purchased the Golf Shop in December. So its basically teach golf and operate a retail store, two jobs in one.

I'm a business analyst for a fortune-20 company. Sounds fancy, but what it means is I work between the IT team and the people who run the business and make sure they get what they need from IT.

I've flirted with some entreprenurial ideas, but never had the balls/capital to go for them.
Oh Christ.

I'm in the same field as koon...I knew I liked you bro.

I am the sole IT person for a small company of around 20 people. I monitor, maintain and upgrade all software, hardware and network equipment.

For the past year I have also taken on the role of Product management/business analyst, note a lot different than Project management. Like the koon said I am the middle man between the business users and the developer, we make sure the end user get's what they want. It requires interviewing end user, writing requirements, some design, creating test plans, user acceptance testing (UAT) and a lot of back and forth between end user and developers. This is the field where there is more growth potential for me. Eventually would like to do this full time along with being a scrum master.

High five! PMs are overrated and BAs are where it's at (looking at you, condomnsuck and Irish#1).

My new role responsibilites is a bit different than my past experience as a BA, but that's still my title. In my internship at an Insurance company though, literally word for word exactly what you mentioned. I liked it a lot. Tons of communication which I enjoy and it's not very techincal at all. Not saying your job isn't technical because every company uses BAs a bit differently, but in my experience being a BA really isn't, and I love that.

I got a lot of satisfaction from meeting with Directors and other big wigs who made 150K+ but knew nothing about IT, and 'developing' what they need. They're always so thankful and impressed (not tooting my own horn - the developers are the real stars, IMO, but BAs and PMs get the credit!).

Word. Since I do have a very strong technical background, I tend to make my business analyst/product management role more technical. IE I know SQL, so I tell developers exactly how I want the tables, sp's and functions designed. Even create store procedures and functions at times for to help the developers.

Wait wait wait... I have wondered this for years... how do you guys fix that golf course after Bruin games or the Rose Bowl??? I have been to UCLA games after a couple days of rain and the golf course just gets destroyed by the traffic.
