Depth (or lack thereof) is the problem.

91 Day, Sheldon Defensive Line 6-2/290 SO Indianapolis, IN/Warren Central
95 Dickerson, Marquis Defensive Line 6-2/280 FR Marianna, AR/Lee
50 Hounshell, Chase Defensive Line 6-4.5/271 JR Kirtland, OH/Lake Catholic
94 Jones, Jarron Defensive Line 6-5.5/305 SO Rochester, NY/Aquinas Institute
89 Matuska, Jacob Defensive Line 6-4.5/275 FR Columbus, OH/Bishop Hartley
90 Rochell, Isaac Defensive Line 6-3.5/280 FR McDonough, GA/Eagle's Landing Christian
69 Springmann, Tony Defensive Line 6-5.5/296 JR Fort Wayne, IN/Bishop Dwenger
53 Utupo, Justin Defensive Line 6-.5/290 SR Lakewood, CA/Lakewood

45 Okwara, Romeo Outside Linebacker 6-4/258 SO Charlotte, NC/Ardrey Kell
56 Rabasa, Anthony Outside Linebacker 6-2.5/243 JR Miami, FL/Columbus
11 Williams, Ishaq Outside Linebacker 6-5.5/261 JR Brooklyn, NY/Lincoln

Grant Blankenship Texas 6'5" | 235 | 4.75 Defensive Line
Jonathan Bonner Missouri 6'4" | 240 | 4.8 Defensive Line
Jay Hayes New York 6'5" | 270 | NA Defensive Line
Pete Mokwuah New York 6'5" | 305| NA Defensive Line
Andrew Trumbetti New Jersey 6'5" | 250 | NA Defensive Line

I don't know, I think we can live with it for a year. If Springman, Utupo, and Hounshell all recover and progress, we could be okay!

Monday update from II has this. Garnett reached out to Notre Dame this morning and indicated he's still thinking on the decision, so much so that he would like the Irish to talk with his family some more. Can't have in person contact but can via phone.

Wait, what?

Was it not Jake Brown, who works for Rivals, that just posted the article about him reconfirming to OU?

Ishaq too is basically another DE, and Okwara and Councell can line up with their hands on the ground when we go to a four front.

Hearing that Hounshell is basically back to 100% made me a bit less worried about getting another DL. If he can rotate in next year, we are in pretty good shape.

I would rather have Cages size, in that case we would really look good. Cage being closer to home, really having to think through his decision, etc., all would seemingly make things a little more likely to succeed earlier.

Whoa, that's huge.

It sounds like he is trying to keep his spot at OU by telling them there is nothing to worry about but he's far from solid.

More than 1/2 have never seen meaningful minutes. I maintain depth is an issue. Actually, more like 2/3...

Looking on that list, depth isn't the issue on DL. Talent is the issue. And that, unfortunately, is the much scarier prospect.

Garnett did tell OU he was coming (saving a spot?) but later told ND he'd like for them to talk to his parents. Think the kid wants ND but his parents (especially Mom) want OU which is closer to home.

The problem is there is a shortage of top 4-5 star talent on the DL coming out of HS. Toughest position to recruit. You have to find 3 star talent that you project with the right development to become really good players. Schools line Mich. St. and Missouri have a history of doing that. Take note that BVG is extremely high on Mokwuah, Garnett and Cage. What he thinks is most important to me.

Experience maybe the issue I definitely don't think talent is. Rochell, Jones, and Day are quality players. Jones and Rochell just haven't played that much football. Not sure what tapes you've been watching but our pass rushers that we're bringing in are very very good. The staff expects Trumbetti to be on the field right away. Not because he's bad. There will be growing pains with some of these guys because they don't have experience but again I don't see that talent or lack there of as the issue.

All the more reason why we should want to land one of the two remaining.

Also going forward these guys won't be splitting atoms on the field. We will see more kick ass and attack the dousche with the ball.

Staff tried hard to make him feel like a need and a priority, which shouldn't have been hard since it's the truth.

He spoke with BVG in-depth today and we are still in this battle.

Someone needs to pull up a map for mom then. 10 hours vs 14 hours. Anyone who's driven ten hours knows that another 4 isn't a big deal. "Closer to home" sounds like a cop-out.

The longer this keeps going the better for nd. If roles were reversed there would be many on this board who would be considering him gone at this point. I like our chances and am hoping for a good NSD for the irish.......for once

Hope ND becomes to OU what UF was to ND under Weis. Just swoop in and steal commits on NSD. Plus take Quick.

We could take turns, meet them half way and drive them the rest of the way. I'll even throw in a lunch off the McDonald's dollar menu.

Like Icaps said, could you imagine how this board would be acting if one of our commits - say, Jay Hayes for positional/stars consistency - told a reporter he'd had three conversations with Bob Stoops today? This is definitely trending in a good direction.
And yeah, for real, get Ma Garnett a map. Norman isn't Baton Rouge.

Still torn between ND/OU. First thought it would go longer than nsd, then he thought he'd decide by Wednesday, now he isn't sure. Distance isn't a factor, mom still wants OU. As mentioned, BK talked with Garnett and mother 3 times today.
