I think the chances of him visiting are reasonable. I think the chances of landing him are slim at this point.

Not sure where this is coming from but Sampson said "McDowell doesn't want to come to ND, even if his dad likes the program." This was in response to some on II getting too optimistic about our chances here.

I know he was a long shot, but damn, he seemed to have the size and skills to potentially start from day 1.

Even though he eliminated us, I think he still has the size and skills. lol

So weird. The dad's language could not have been stronger in those quotes. He is adamant that Malik should get out of Michigan and go somewhere where his only friends will be other student-athletes doing the same things he is doing. He wants Malik away from his current friends, basically. And Malik wants MSU.

Maybe the kid hangs out with a bad crowd. If that's the case then I don't really blame the dad for wanting him to get away. Although, I'm not sure players on FSU or OSU would be a much better influence.

Totally agree. By saying it's weird I didn't mean to say I disapprove of what the dad was saying. I was just surprised to see him air the issue publicly and speak so vehemently about it.

I'm not sure if you're saying that because you just think that's the truth or if you actually know something. Malik played for a Divison 7 (Class C) school freshman-junior years. I wouldn't necessary say his parents MADE him switch schools. Maybe he wanted better competition and to play against kids his size.

You should watch his junior highlights. He is biggest kid out there and it's not even close. And his team still managed to get stomped by a team from the Upper Pennisula, Ishpeming, @ Ford Field.

One of the commenters, Joya Crowe, at the bottom of this article is supposedly Malik's Mom. Notice the last hashtag. LOL. It looks like she's grown really tired of the MSU and Skunkbears and their squabbling.
Father encourages top recruit Malik McDowell to use broad vision as decision nears | The Detroit News

Matthew Harmon, research African American students college party schools, research the defense coaches and tell me how many NFL players each have sent to the league in the position my son plays. If athletes are only taking General Business at any school, blame the parents for allowing their child to be used. This is not a decision for the MSU or UofM fans to make... It's sad how you all bash one another. You all need to grow-up... Just because you read it on the internet doesn't mean it's true... #SickofthestateofMichigan....

To the parents' credit (at least the father's) they tried hard to get him interested in ND. He just wasn't, for whatever reason.

I read on SI that the reason his parents are against him going to MSU is they overheard him talking to a MSU player about how you don't have to go to class. Do the parents really think FSU and OSU will be any different?

Reality is that in most major universities you don't HAVE to go to class. You can show up for exams and study on your own if you want to...or play video games, drink, get laid, or whatever else. As long as you are keeping up with your work then it's not a big deal.
