Disappointing. We could have used him and his skill set. Good luck to him, and hopefully he continues to work hard in the classroom.

Here's to hoping we don't have to face him.

I thought IM was going to be ND's this whole time. I was wrong.

I accept my public flogging.

I think that's a good way of ending things. If McKenzie's coaches were in ND's corner then dropping his recruitment out of frustration might have sent a bad message and poisoned the well there.

Good luck, Isaiah.

Ugh just when I thought I was out ...

Per Loy, McKenzie told Alford he didn't see why he had to take an OV to ND b/c he has already spent a week there. Alford told him that he had to meet with academic advisors, etc. and ND would not send him an LOI if he didn't take his OV. When McKenzie refused to confirm that he would be on a plane to ND tomorrow, Alford walked away (not literally).

If McKenzie gets on the plane tomorrow, he has an offer from ND. If he doesn't, he doesn't.

No one expects McKenzie to take an OV to ND right now. But he has a plane ticket and if he has a change of heart and gets on the plane to ND, all is forgiven and he has the green light to sign with us.

He seriously is all over the place. He told coaches at ND, UF and Ole Miss earlier this week that he was leaning toward ND. But he told the staff at each of VT and SC that he wants to OV there and, in the case of VT, would likely commit on the visit if he were allowed to OV. All per Loy.

WHO. THE HELL. KNOWS.

IMHO, this reaction of IM's to be hesitant to go on his OV and meet with academic advisers indicates concern on his part that his academics still might be an issue.

Personally, I think it's possible that ND is and remains his favorite, but he is ADDICTED to taking OVs (see Malachi Dupre's thread if you are wondering why), he wants to go party and hang out somewhere he's never been this weekend, and he exaggerated his interest to the staffs of VT and USCe just so he could take those visits. He is currently hoping that Alford is bluffing about not getting an LOI unless he visits.

Just a theory. Not a lot of confidence in it. Maybe he really is gonna go with VT.

Honestly,
For those of us who've been around long enough... based on all this drama... we don't want this kid. Kids who have this much crap hovering over them (Shaq Evans, Lynch, Tee, Greenberry) never work out at ND. I think the staff has moved on to Quick and actually parted ways with IM. I honestly don't think they'd take him at this point... I think the staff has had enough as well... so in a day or so... you'll see him "drop us" from consideration. You watch.

I'm more bummed that I didn't think of the thread title change than I am about McKenzie.

Best of luck to him, but the more I read, the more I agree, we dodged a bullet. First, we don't even know if he could maintain his B average for the semester. If he doesn't then we're up the creek without the paddle. Second, if he did maintain the B average he probably would have struggled from the get go and become ineligible after the first semester.

I have a feeling BK backed off of him and that's why he said he wasn't coming.

Here's why......A long time ago, I was interviewing for a job that required a lot of sales. The guy told me that you have to be able to ask the tough questions, read the signs and then close or move on. The first half of his recruitment was okay, but as it moved closer to the point of closing the deal, the signs were there that it wasn't happening (as many on here had pointed out). In reality, we should have wished IM luck and walked away from him a long time ago.

Hope he ends up happy wherever he lands.

Queue the Glen Gary Glen Ross video.

Glad we can move. There are going to be plenty of McKenzie's over the years and there is only one ND. I think he lost sight of that, too bad.
