I said this last time, and it wasn't popular, but I feel its true.

Kinda unfair to those kids that worked hard to be recognized, when a kid beats them in stuff like this simply because hes committed to a school with a national fanbase. Looking at the totals each round, Drue probably wouldn't have won this without it being posted on all of the ND sites.

In a way, how many of us actually watched enough Ft Wayne area football to have an opinion on whether Drue had a better season than any of these kids? Seems like the other people that voted may have voted this differently without our skewing of the results.

Anyways... glad one of our own won it, but I would have rather seen him win it on his own merit.

Anyone else think Drue goes to DOG if we get Sykes and Morgan to go along with Martini? DOG is probably Tranquill's most natural position. Martini and Sykes aren't as versatile.

Both Jaylon and Drue totally deserved this and it's "sad" that it took IE to push them both over the top.

The truth is that as much as IE and other ND fans helped them, it certainly hurt them being a ND commit as well. Who do you think the ND haters were voting for?

I'd say the efforts of IE simply counterbalanced the ND haters votes.

Actually been saying for awhile that I hope we land Sykes and Morgan to allow this move. A safety's skill set in a LB's body sounds perfect for DOG, and there's not a logjam at that position like CAT.

If that makes you sleep better at night. I personally disagree with you. Most of these other kids aren't committed to major programs and I don't think Ft Wayne has enough "ND haters" that they spend their time trying to find people to vote against a Notre Dame kid, simply because they don't like Notre Dame.

My friend that lives in Ft Wayne thought it was criminal that Drue is beating out Donovan Clark. He said that "sure, Tranquill might end up being a better college football player. But I don't know a single person that thinks Donovan isn't having the best season. The kid is insane".

Now, that's just one guys opinion... but that is also a die hard ND fan saying that. He is an assistant coach in Ft Wayne as well.

I hear you man but a internet vote? Its a popularity contest. More people vote for American Idol than the president. Lets not get too serious here. A paper ballot would be more legit. We know we got a good player. I am fine with that.

As I said, i'm glad he won. But I feel bad for a kid like Donovan Clark that clearly only lost because Drue is committed to Notre Dame. It might just be an internet vote to us, but it could have really meant something to him or his family. Not everybody gets to go on to a big time college career like Drue.

If someone else deserved the award, and would have won it with the votes that the poll intended to be soliciting (ie Ft Wayne high school football watchers), then its a shame.

Again... I wish Drue could have won it on his own merit as well. Winning a popularity contest when you are dating the prom queen isn't much of a feat.

I think internet or text voting is a terrible way to decide any kind of real award or contest. Cackalackdaddy is right. It's a popularity contest. Just like with American Idol, the best person never seems to win (except Jaylon), just the most popular or marketable.

I would add that at least American Idol is soliciting votes from anywhere. While this was open to votes from everywhere, I highly doubt that the Ft Wayne News-Sentinal intended to have local kids compete nationally for this.

^ This

While I appreciate the sentiment of Wooly's post and believe him to be correct on a certain level, I also know that the schools themselves a lot of times direct the kids to these kinds of things to push their own school. An internet vote is one of the worst ways to do this kind of thing. Poll the coaches of the FW schools if you want the truest answer.

It should be voted by his peers or the coaches in a format where you can't vote for someone in your team. Minimum bias... Anyways.

I am not harshing on you but Donovan Clark's twitter is lit up with tweets and retweets about voting for him.

In between was this jewel:

He wouldn't have won if not for us voting him up. The kid he was going against had an enormous following and his school was much bigger than Jay's. Jaylon would have lost if not for us blindly voting for him. Kind of the opposite of this year, so it balances out, I suppose.

Typically, I'm on Wooly's side for this one though. Let the locals hash it out.

Since he doesn't really have a national following... doesn't that prove my point? He obviously really wanted to win and had to compete with a kid that had links on every ND board on the internet? lol

Are we arguing about whether or not it's fair that ND fans are voting in a fan poll that exists primarily to get a newspaper's website hits?

Donovan got beat out for the Euell A. Wilson Award as the SAC’s top senior football player. While I'm sure your friend thinks Clark had the best season, he wasn't even considered the best in his conference which was not decided by an internet vote. Obviously it's not as clear cut as your friend is leading you to believe.

With the addition of two more front seven players today Drue's versatility becomes a luxury. Whether he plays safety or LB we are in great shape!
