You do what you have to for these hires. You come in on your day to get this deal done flat out. I bet the admin comes in for lesser issues....

A defensive coordinator isnt going to make or break a kids commitment. Much less one that he doesnt know.

Mike Frank just posted an update on ISD asking all ND fans to be patient and let the situation play out, and to not turn on the kid. He thinks that when it is all said and done 'this will all make sense - no matter what the outcome'.

Think we should heed his advice and just see what happens.

It's great advise, but it won't matter. We have too many idiots on twitter...

Does this explain the recent interest in Michael Sawyers and Travonte Valentine or are they unrelated.

We should lock this thread, just as a preventative measure! ;)

That shit can't be allowed.

Is it?

Why not?

I would understand your objection completely if the sister was already enrolled and on scholarship. If they said: OK, Matt, sign with UCLA and your sister can keep her scholarship. That would be wrong. But currently neither is on scholarship at UCLA. Nothing is being taken away or being threatened.

Loy's update basically confirms and echoes what Mike Frank said. There are tough personal issues at home that they won't get into, but it has made staying closer to home a thought in Matt's mind.

However, Denbrock and Co. do not believe Matt will flip anywhere, and they have been in constant communication with him. The family has a huge amount of respect for ND and the staff for never wavering on him when he injured his back, and his HS may be in ND's corner. Denbrock is going to try and get out there next weekend to see him. Additionally, Dickerson and his parents plan on OV'ing to ND later this month, which could finally put to rest all the rumors.

I really hope Dickerson comes. That said, I am not going to flip out about losing a 260 lb. DT that didn't play his senior year. To me, Hayes, Bonner, Blankenship, and yes, Mustipher, could end up being as a good a DT as Dickerson (yes, I know I listed a CAT, a 2 DEs, and a Center).

Here are the positions (3-4/4-3) and weights I am projecting.

Mustipher: NT/DT, 320 (I think we land the B. Smith and move Mustipher).
Hayes: SDE/DT, 310.
[Dickerson: NT???/DT- 300]
Blankenship: DE/DT- 305.
Bonner: DE/SDE- 280.
Trumbetti: CAT/WDE- 270
Williams: CAT/WDE- 270
Hill: OLB- 240
Yeargin: LB- 235
Sykes: ILB- 240
Morgan: ILB- 245

So I think we have recruited an entire front 7, if Mustipher moves over. Without Mustipher, we still have a good 4-3 haul. For a single class!

Anyway, I hope he comes. Seems like a good, talented kid. He'd be a great addition to the class.

I know, I know... Mustipher?!

My objection is to the quid pro quo aspect of the thing. If the sister is earning the scholarship all by herself, then fine. However, it seems more like the sister's scholarship is really "additional incentive" for him to sign on for football, which goes above and beyond the perks than can and should be offered to a football recruit. I get that it's impossible to prove, but it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

It would be like offering his mom a job at the University as Assistant to the Athletic Director. Maybe she's perfectly qualified to be an executive assistant, but what's the real reason she's getting offered the position?

Exactly. It's pretty straight foward. "We are going to give your family somthing it would not already get if you come here."

BK should go with him. Seems like we might need to pull out all of the stops to make sure we keep Matt.

BK already used his in home. BK will be able to talk with him face to face on his OV, though.

IM8 gonna lose dat bet with wooly.....

Holla!

For reals though.... This is why I don't pay attention to the numbers and I think the staff should "oversign with the assumption of attrition". The staff spoke to this and Matt shows us again why we can't just keep recruiting to 85. If we do, then we will continue to put less than an 85 man roster out there every year.

This situation reeks of he-gone-eeness. Apparently, there is a DT forcefield around ND that does not allow for new DT's to enroll.

The staff seems to have known/be in the know about this as well. Doesn't seem like it's news to them today that he may not be a part of this class.

Yeah. The only thing is, we are not recruiting to 85 this year, are we? We have enough realistic targets to get to 90 or thereabouts if everybody commits. I've got 80 in the boat so far, plus 4 5Ys I'd like to take (Lombard, Collinsworth, Utupo, Moore), plus at least 6 targets whom the staff appears to believe have legit interest in ND (Juju [Hendrix backup plan?], Quick, Schultz, McKenzie/Nelson [counting as one; we won't take both], Braden Smith, Alexander). Then we are still after some DTs like Valentine or maybe Sawyer.

I guess I don't know how much is a safe amount of over-recruiting. How much attrition can we count on? Not 5 guys' worth, right?

This isn't meant to sound snarky, btw. I am agreeing that we should "oversign" to some degree ... but I honestly don't know how much is too much.

Because pushing guys off the team in August because we don't have room for them is an unacceptable outcome, obviously. Kelly said so explicitly at a recent presser. I think we all agree on that.

How much Jail Time would a man do if he surprise kicked Mora in the little Jims? I can get a Dr.'s note saying it was a knee reflex medical condition that caused said kicking motion.

just saying......

I am kidding... but really

This is entirely 100% Wooly's fault.

But for reals this sucks. Our second best DL commit besides Trumbetti IMO and his versatility maybe made him our most important commit
