I'm so tired of ND being their own worst enemy. We shoot ourselves in the foot as a program more than anyone else in the country.

Dear 2013,

I am interested in benchmarking your gameplan for success. Please advise me on how to put my best foot forward.

Good grief. It's only 1/9. I'm going into hibernation until mid-August. Maybe I'll wake up for a few hours for the Spring game. Lord help me if I find out Bruce Heggie was brought back to play out his eligibility b/c we needed bodies.

Man, not even a week removed from the end of the college football season, and off-season drama has started.

Heggie is going to lead us to another championship in '14

Pure speculation and rumors are torturous. I once had a Position coach tell me, "Bill, it is never as bad as it seems, and it is rarely as good as it seems, so stay centered." I normally see this statement as accurate, but when you factor ND football, all bets are off. Do we all need to meet at the Grotto to offset this string of events?

Another topic- Does ND's admissions flexibility on some border line Recruits set us up for this unfortunate scenario (if true)?
Just a talking point for the future, I am too busy lamenting the unknown.

Good to be back Guys

Best

I know the Facebook groups are not worth much at all, but Peter Zabroski claims that DD has been suspended for Spring Semester because of his GPA not being up to ND's standards and will be back in time for the season. Of course, take it with a huge grain of salt.

If he said this, then I am very confident everything on the ND front is okay with Davaris. This guy knows nothing and seriously just throws stuff out there. He claims he has sources, when in reality, he is rarely correct.

It's no secret that he has struggled with academics since arriving on campus. Last spring he was put on probation around the same time Everett Golson was dismissed from school (might have already been on probation, but there were rumors he was going to be dismissed/suspended and those proved false). So this is the first semester after that.

What we do know is that his semester grades were good enough to keep him academically eligible, or he could not have played in the bowl game. Maybe NDinLA or someone who knows the back story here can share what they've heard is going on. All I know is that everyone I've reached out to this morning has heard rumors of him declaring for the draft, but none of them provided any context or back story as to why he would declare for the draft.

We'll have to wait and see what happens, rumors about him half a year ago proved false.

Not that it really matters all that much, but did he even get a draft evaluation? I think he's more NFL-ready than GA3, but this draft class is loaded, and I'm not sure I'd take him until a pretty late round if at all.

No, he did not. All of this is quite fishy with regards to timing and other factors, and I'm sorry I don't have better info.

If there is something to this, what are the chances of, say, missing spring ball, over missing all of next season? It seems like there would be more than one possibility than that.

Paging jimmymac......

Don't have a clue on this one, and I'm away from campus this semester in Spain so my usefulness will be low. But if I had to guess, here's what I think:

When Golson got suspended, it was rumored that Daniels was also involved. However, Golson was suspended because it was his second offense (seems to be the case if you look at the code) and Daniels was put on academic probation (once again complete speculation, but I think this is the case).

Academic probation means that if you do not maintain a certain GPA, like a 2.0, or get caught cheating again, you'll be suspended like Golson was.

With campus just opening up again, I bet if there was a situation with Daniels at the end of the semester, they will be reviewing it now. Campus is opening back up, and classes don't start til next week.

Once again, complete speculation, but seems to make sense to me.

Best explanation of the timing I've heard. Very possible then that he maintained a GPA high enough to be eligible but not high enough to meet an arbitrary number that ND may have set. So if he were to get dismissed for a semester, he could hypothetically be back in the fall. Or he could just declare for the NFL. Or he could transfer and sit out (or down a level and play), which would be his worst possible moves, so that probably won't happen.

Or they review everything and give him a pass. Or this is all hogwash (the most unlikely thing, but possible).

If I were him and got suspended for a semester that didn't impact my playing time, I'd go the Golson route and use it as a chance to work hard on my game without spending time in the classroom or on campus, come back bigger, stronger, faster and then show the NFL scouts what I can do when the season rolls around. I don't think he risks losing any money by staying in college a season, and he's got a lot to gain by putting up a productive season.

If he was suspended this semester, he would be eligible to return in the fall, if the rumors are correct or at least close to correct.

Torii Hunter and Justin Brent, time to shine.

As Hunter is projected more in the slot, I think this would give a lot more reps in the spring to Brown, Fuller, Robinson and Brent.

Although this is a blow, I can't help but thinking if there is a single guy who we could afford to lose for the spring and come back in the fall, it's DD. He knows the offense and should be able to pick things up quick in the fall with EG again, and his absence opens the door for a lot of the young, talented WRs to grow.

Hope it isn't true and DD is here all spring, but if it is, it isn't the end of the world. Hopefully he learns from this and grows as a person, student and player.

My source said that they heard it from one of the pay sites message boards.

Someone on a pay site message board is not a "source". Someone inside, or very close to the program/player/school could be considered "a source". If it came from a pay site, why not just tell us which one?

I don't know a damn thing, but I think Golson coming back might convince DD to skip the draft (he wasn't good enough to get drafted anyways, IMO, but if GA can go, hell, I might be able to enter). Those two talked about 'unfinished business' and I have to think it is on the field together, not that accounting exam.
