Why would Louisville take this guy back... were the options that bad? Yes he is talented but..... Any guy who bolts for the pros, only to bolt before his first game to go to another CFB team, and then is fired for soap opera behavior and lying.... IMO is not worth a second chance.

In all seriousness, this is just making a deal with the devil. They aren't the first and they won't be the last to sell their souls for wins. But, let's be clear, this is selling their soul.

They needed a big name to keep their momentum going, otherwise they'd just turn into the next NC State or Georgia Tech in the ACC IMO. A 7-win team who is good for 9-10 wins about once a decade. Guy can flat out coach, and they must figure that hopefully at this point he won't leave them again.

Okay Ian Rapoport ;)

“@RapSheet: 1 thought on Louisville reportedly hiring Petrino again: U of L selling its soul for wins. It’s not the first place, won’t be the last.”

Louisville has spent millions on upgrading their facilities and coaching staffs to make themselves a real player in major sports. They are going to the ACC next year. They had to get a really good to great coach to keep the momentum going. Petrino is that. I wouldn't have done, but I understand why they did.

The personal buyout better be HUGE!!

Selling their soul for a second time....
What is said to be the definition of insanity....
Every coach lining up to recruit against Louisville will be loaded with enough ammo that's for sure...
Hell, even Arkansas fans thought he couldn't recruit.
Louisville should have gone with an up and coming MAC guy or the hot Tier 2 name.
IMO, he gone after 2 years either due to performance, or jumping ship for a better op. Wouldn't be shocked to see him in the SEC again......

He's a good coach, who made a mistake and is getting a second chance. Don't think its as big a deal as everyone is making it out to be

Is that what happened?? Sometimes a story breaks that just seems, at first glance, to just have a stink to it... so i just ignore it completely. I did that with the Petrino thing, he was fired for wreacking a bike while having sex with someone he wasn't married to??

I agree 100%. He will get some ok players there. I personally think he should have waited until maybe next year when some better jobs opened. Louisville isn't going to be a great football school.

Well it's more than his second chance, he quit on the Falcons during his season there. Mike Zimmer isn't impressed..

“He is a coward. Put that in quotes. He ruined a bunch of people’s lives, a bunch of people’s families, kids, because he didn’t have enough nuts to stay there and finish the job. That’s the truth.”
“He came in and said he resigned, he would talk to us all at a later date, walked out of the office and no one has ever talked to him since. Not that anybody wanted to.
“He’s a gutless b—–d. Quote that. I don’t give a s—.”

Saban quit on Miami and no one is bashing him. And its been said that the Falcons players quit on Petrino. I personally don't like him, but who else is Louisville going to get to keep them relevant? It's odd for sure, but don't see it as selling their soul as others are.

Nope it's not the same. Saban didn't leave with 3 games left in the year, he finished the year then left.

I saw something today that he did the same shit when he was an assistant for the Jaguars under Coughlin. Snuck off to interview at Auburn for an assistant position and Coughlin didn't find out until it was announced he was hired in the press. Tom has never talked to him since.

Most are aware of this, but he also had a clandestine meeting with Auburn officials about replacing Tubbs...while UofL's coach. I think it was the year auburn began the season #2...then finished something like 7-5.

The funny part was Tubberville kept his job...but all the guys who attended the meeting--the AD and some prominent BoT's--lost theirs. One of their big backers (I don't think the Yellawood guy?) got put in timeout too.

Bobby Petrino folks.

This is whats wrong with college football. This turd ruined (atleast) 2 programs in Louisville and Arkansas. Constantly flirted with other jobs. Clandestine meetings with other programs. Banging co-eds (don't see anything wrong with this, but he was married). And this is just the stuff that we know about.

Yet people still give him the time of day and head coaching jobs. WTF.

Petrino interviews for at least three other head coaching jobs -- the Raiders, Notre Dame, and LSU -- and is reportedly in touch with multiple other teams. At one point he says, "I'm not interested in any other coaching jobs."

Wasn't Urban also talked about at Notre Dame? Interviewing and offering and hiring are a whole lot different but still. Now, everyone does forget that it was Petrino that put Louisville on the football map and not Charlie Strong. Strong came in and elevated the program but if not for Petrino, Louisville don't even get Strong. Not saying he is worthy of rehire but I can also see why Louisville did it.

The thing with Urban is he was once on the coaching staff under Lou, and he has been credited with saying that ND was his dream job. A lot changed though as Urban moved up the ranks, and he reportedly consulted someone about the ND job, a certain Boob Davie, that stated "You cannot win at Notre Dame anymore." So, given that information there was a lot of hope that Urban would take over after he had some success at Utah, and even Florida, but it ultimately didn't pan out. We've done alright with BK though, and I doubt Urban could do better given the circumstances with this program.
