Autoban for saying anything negative about Rees but celebration gifs because a running back who averaged 6 yards per carry went pro.
It's not like Tommy didn't have tons of yards and TDs, he just happened to have more INTs than a guy like Quinn or Clausen. Not a fair comparison to those guys given the fact Tommy wasn't as athletic and was asked to throw the ball more than we should have been throwing. Constantly getting into situations where we have to chuck the ball 30-40 times a game is a bad idea unless your QB is incredibly elite. Tommy should have just been asked to manage the game.
As far as GAIII, the guy has an obvious attitude problem, that's probably the biggest issue here and why people are rejoicing. Aside from that, he may have 6 YPC, but he's the definition of inconsistency for a guy that should have all the physical tools. When it comes down to it, he's a home run threat, nothing more. Half the time he can't find the hole, or he will find the hole and he goes down on initial contact. What kind of back can't fight out of a tackle or extend the play a few yards, especially at 225 pounds? Cam gets more yards after initial contact. George will get stonewalled a number of times, then he'll magically break a big one and bring up his YPC. He doesn't learn from these mistakes, especially when it comes to his pad level.
Consistency is very important for a running back. It's better to have a back that will always get you 3-5 yards, than a back that will get you a bunch of 1-2 yard gains and maybe a 10+ yarder later.
I wish George well. I'm not terribly happy that he's leaving, but I'm not broken up over it either. It would have been nice to have him for returns, as that's where he shines the most. We'll be fine at running back if Folston continues to get better, Cam stays Cam, and GB gets healthy. Theres also Mahone and AC, who knows what those two will do. Our backfield will be fine next year, GAIII taking off won't hurt it.
