Seriously, what is Brian Kelly waiting for? Why hasn't he announced BVG as his new DC yet? I understand that it isn't official yet, but it is pretty obvious that he is. Why is it not official yet? Is there contractual issues being settled? I just don't see why they are waiting this long to announce the decision. Seems pointless to delay this any further. Get it done already.

Already been discussed in a couple threads on the BVG hire... and you also could have asked this there, instead of creating a new thread... but basically the University completely shuts down over winter break. Why does this matter? Because after the O'Learly debacle, they have a very comprehensive vetting process they go through before they execute any contracts or announce any hires.

Let's look at a similar situation... Harry Hiestand was "hired" on January 11th. That's when media sources reported it being a done deal. He wasn't officially hired/announced until January 25th... two full weeks later. The "clock" on BVG started 12/30... and we don't know when they'll actually get the vetting process done. Mike Frank expected it to be announced/official in a couple weeks, so look for something at the middle/end of January.

Would have to think no on this one, if it hasn't been announced and fully vetted, I can't imagine him having access to the kids yet.

Kelly just got back from Florida late Thursday night, so yesterday was his first day back from vacation. BVG isn't on campus yet. I have no idea when he will be here, but to reiterate what Lax said, this is a done deal. Campus just reopened Thursday, and I'm not even sure HR was open yet. No need to worry at all.

The Irish still need another assistant coach, right? (Probably QB or special teams).

It looks like Ernest Jones and most of the GAs are gone so is it safe to assume it will be another outside hire?

I haven't heard a peep about any of this.

EDIT: obviously filling the defensive coordinator opening takes priority if Denbrock is being promoted to fill Martin's seat.

The staff has already been talking to recruits about BVG. It's done, and is just going through the process like Lax said.

Ever since the O-Leary fiasco, ND undergoes a thorough vetting for each new hire. That is another reason why it takes so long (especially, combined with ND being shut down for the holidays).

as an interception machine for db practice squad...

No reason not to try. But I'd doubt he's really planning on making a living on Sundays.
He could coach, though probably should get away from Notre Dame for a few years. GA at Miami of Ohio, maybe?

There isnt really any rush to get a OC/DC hired and signed. The hires arent going to sway who they are recruiting for 2014, so you might as well be thorough and make sure they are the right guy. BVG will be the DC and OC will be from the outside. There is plenty of movement going on in college and nfl right now, so there is no need to rush a decision with head coaches jumping all over so you may stumble on a head coach/oc/position coach that is a great fit. ND is in a great position to be patient with this. If they had 10 kids committed it would be different...they have 23.

OC will be an outside hire unless they cant work out a contract/takes another job/etc..i mean there are a million things that go into it. So if all doesnt work out or they cant get the right guy, then I assume Alford or Denbrock would get their shot and Id imagine Kelly would be comfortable with that. But ideally, its going to be someone from outside.

Hope it's someone who will be aggressive with the spread. One that will best utilize the talent and quickly develop the young ones we have.
