yes, I was never all that impressed with turner.

I agree.

I have no problem with John Turner, or his getting a scholarship. We were desperate for DBs in those days, and chasing 4 stars with nothing in the cupboard was a bad idea. We needed depth, and he had the athleticism to develop into a good D1 athlete.

That said, he was always a project. While he was extremely athletic, he never seemed like a really passionate football player with great instincts. There was never any confusion about his abilities. It was never "can't miss." It was always "project."

Yeah I wasn't sure. I'm not a complete star chaser, but it seems we have had no problem the last two years landing 4 and 5* db's so just wondered about the opinion on Hendrix.

Pete Sampson: Hendrix tried to commit in December, but the Irish asked him to wait until after the bowl game. Not much will have changed

So the staff must feel like they have a good shot with Juju. Or at least they thought they'd have a better idea of where they sit by the bowl game.

That or they want to have a better idea on #s in terms of 5th years, transfers and medicals after reassessing post bowl game before accepting his commitment. Could also be some combination of both.

The interesting debate here is lets say Juju stays west does that mean we have a conversation of Collinsworth or Hendrix?

tough position to be in for a young man. would be hard to hear if Ark is willing to take you on spot.

Maybe staff didn't like that he can hit and make tackles? They only want someone who can line up the defense.

In all seriousness, this better mean Juju

I think it's this. It could all hinge on Tuitt's decision, or on another spot unexpectedly opening due to transfer or medical.

I knew a month ago?

:whoknows:

I wasn't sure if this was the kind of thing you share publicly as it puts Hendrix in a bit of an awkward spot. I'm 99% sure that every major site staff knew this but chose not to release it. Rivals, who has been taking a beating lately, seems like they wanted to post some "scoop."

I'm not trying to GB, just thought it was interesting that this came out... and even more interesting that it came out through Rivals. Should anyone still want to get in a tizzy I think I discussed this with about a half dozen people in PM a couple days ago when STL was updating the master list.

Honestly, I don't think it's that big of a deal. The kid is obviously pretty good, and the staff wants him...maybe just not as much as they want Juju or a 5th year player. There's no shame in that.

The way this cycle is looking (players on board and the several targets remaining), if Juju says no, I hope he ends up at ND.

Yeah, I can vouch for that. Don't know if Lax knew it a month ago but he def knew it a week ago.

+1

Wiltfong also alluded to it when he said 5 days ago "whenever ND wants to take him, I think they land him"

This is what bugs me about the state of recruiting reporting. Everyone is out for a scoop and there are enough sites out there battling, that regardless of the effects of releasing the info, one of them will do it.

I'm sure Hendrix is fine with it. But the different sites can't tell us that there isn't a risk to the team of releasing this type of info. I can easily see a kid being embarrassed by the fans all knowing that he is a second choice. Even having to read people on boards like this, discussing his merit to the class. It certainly doesn't give them the "warm fuzzies" that have always been an important part of wooing a recruit. This same thing happened with McKenzie. The kid verbally commits to the school, only to have the recruiting sites let everyone in on his grade situation. Leading to idiots tweeting about it to him, etc.

In an "instant gratification" world… recruiting news feeds that same desire. With no regards to the recruit's well being.

Been thinking about this since I read it yesterday.......do.....not......like.....if the kid wants to be in South Bend, then by all means, you take him, and go from there.....don't slow play a kid who has a lot of upside, for any reason........

Why not be honest with him and say, you're #2 to our board for safety, rather than you commit now and then we get Juju and then no longer need you, just hold off for now. If he goes to USC, you become our #1 safety and can commit then without worry.

ND prides itself and has been praised for being honest and up front with where recruits are on their wish list. I hope that doesn't change.
