New York style pizza for me. One of the highlights of my visits there. What makes it so great is it simplicity. Give me some pepperoni with fresh mozz and basil on a brick oven, thin crust. Yum Yum.

NY style sucks. You need a three foot wide pizza to feed more than two people and I'm still not sure how it gets so greasy when there is hardly anything on it. The ONLY thing going for it is it takes three seconds to bake since is it thinner than most sheets of paper.

Lou Malnatis (spelling brutalized) is the standard but the worst Chicago style is better than the best NY any day of the week. The only problem is it takes 40 minutes to cook one up so you have to plan well in advance if you are ordering one. I like to call in for pick up and then ask to sit when I get there at our only local place that has Chicago style.

Sounds like you are basing your opinion on one location's pie. Your description is not anywhere near the reality of the pie I get.

There is nothing to debate here!!!

NY STYLE PIZZA RULES THE WORLD!!!

Whatever they hell they make in Chicago isn't even pizza. Its basically a lasagna with dough instead of noodle. Its delicious, but its not pizza. Its in a whole different category.

And how dare anyone identify the pizza chains product (pizza hut, dominos, little caesars, papa johns) as NY style pizza! Those companies do not make Ny style pizza. They are their own species of crappy Italian fast food.

Im not a fan of Jon Stewart, but he did an amazing job here:

The problem with Chicago deep dish is that it's not the type of pizza that you can eat often. For me, one great slice puts me in a food coma and I can't have it again for a month or so.

When I'm in the zone, I can take down an entire pie of great NY style and then do it again the next week.

Exactly! Its not Pizza. When my mother makes me baked Ziti, I don't sit there and eat an entire casserole dish worth of Ziti!! You eat 2 or 3 scoops at most.

But pizza, at 4 am, I just might eat the entire pie by myself!

"Deep dish pizza is not only not better than NY pizza… it's not pizza… IT'S A CASSEROLE!"

"I wanna know that when I get drunk and pass out on my pizza… that I'm not going to drown!"

haha… too funny.

"You don't use an iron skillet to make a pizza. You use an iron skillet to fend off someone who tries to serve you fucking pizza made in a skillet."

I love cast iron. The radiators in my house are cast iron. The burners in my furnace (older than me, believe it or not) are cast iron and refuse to die. My exercise regime involves 100 reps with a cast iron stew pot. A cast iron skillet is great for making corn bread – just preheat the daylights out of it with oil before pouring in the batter.

Pizza is meant to be baked in a wood or charcoal oven on stone with high heat. Cast iron, be it a skillet or a pot, has no business consorting with anything calling itself pizza.

Call it a dough filled with tomato-ish sauce, some cheese and perhaps a meat or two "melange," Chicago, but it sure as hell ain't PIZZA!

Dat's wat I'm talkin' 'bout! Capice, paisanos?

Doesn't it just depend on the circumstances? If you're in a hurry or have to eat with your hands then you have to go NY. But if you have utensils and for whatever reason you're only going to get one slice, you'd have to go Chicago, else you're going hungry.

Lies. I have never had pizza of any kind that sucked.

Chicago style is a doughy pile of undercooked blah... but it's still deliscious...

Wait, so you've never had NY Style before???

Looks like Sicilian style to me....

It looks like Sicilian, but it's much different. Much thinner and it's most notable for having a completely different cheese blend. Old Forge is also famous for it's double crust white pizza with rosemary and olive oil on top.

I will say, when not eating NY style, which is a very rare occasion for me, Sicilian style is second best. It is a little thicker, but not a casserole like Chicago style. It is still self identifiable as pizza, just a little thicker.

Never been to Old Forge, PA. Old Forge, NY, yes. It's on the edge of the Adirondacks upstate. Near Big Moose Lake. Never had pizza there, but bought plenty of beer.

I honestly never heard of Old Forge until this thread and just mapped it to find out I am only an hour twenty minutes away. I may have to journey there sometime over this Christmas break.

I will hold off my official opinion on which style of pizza I like more. But I will say that Chicago has set the bar very high.

There is/was a pizza place in the 100 Center in Mishawaka called Giannetto's Pizza (behind the haunted Hacienda). It's owned by a guy that is very Italian, he probably had the strongest Italian accent I have ever heard. He's a great guy that makes even better pizza. Absolutely phenomenal, best pizza I have ever had

Edit: After doing some research, looks like Giannetto's moved to the corner of Old Cleveland and Capital in Granger

In South Bend I really like Bruno's pizza. Polito's had pretty good pizza too. Although most people rave over Barnaby's, I don't think it is very good.

Polito's was the shit. Didn't it burn down? Barnaby's was my favorite South Bend pizza even though it wasn't NY. Rocco's was good too.

PM me if you make the trip and I'll send some suggestions. I plan to have a few Old Forge meals myself.

I think it burnt down but reopened at a new location.

Politos reopened at the corner of mckinley and hickory in the old noble romans building.

Politos is def my favorite pizza in south bend. Its honeslty the best NY style pizza i have ever had in the midwest. The owner Frank is a helluva a nice guy. And hes from the same neighborhood in upper manhattan that my grandfather used to own a bar in. Small world.

Interesting. Bruno's is THE pizza place in Oxford, OH(Miami of Ohio). Great NY style pizza. Man I wish I could have some of that right now. Pizza in South Carolina sucks.

I am surprised you Yankees think you have the monopoly on quality pizza. This is my momma's own recipe.

You ruined my appetite in four seconds. It's like looking at Roseanne Barr in a g-string.
