ok, now that he's committed i need a pronunciation of the last name.

too often i spend months mispronouncing our guys names until the kelly presser on NSD.

is it "LOOO-AHH-TOOO-AHH"?

anyone remember Brent Musberger pronouncing Manti as "Monty" his junior year??

That's how I say it. But not certain it's correct.

Their #6 right now and won't be climbing. I think they'll end somewhere around 8-10. Still terrific.

I think there is a solid chance we'll see some bumps when the AA games roll around. Rivals and 247 always do re-ratings after those two games and we have quite a few commits participating. For example I think rivals will give Trumbetti a rather large increase after he beats some people up.

Also, if say Smith and Nelson both come on board... Is it just assumed the bumps from other schools would just negate that??

Yeah. A guy from Rivals said that even if we get Morgan and then like Hendrix and McKenzie, it still wouldn't be enough to finish higher than 8-12 consider how other schools finish. Obviously that would change if our guys see significant bumps after All-Star games or we get a surprise commit from Juju, Elam or Lazard, but it seems right now we are locked in on that area.

Again though, I care less about our rank this year because so many guys in this class who are the 3 star core have huge upsides. In years past, our 3 star guys were solid role players. This year, they have potential to be stars if they develop. So if our class winds up 10-12 in actual rankings, I see it more as a top 5 class in terms of upside rankings, which is elite to me.

wow, 8-12?? Finishing out of the top ten would be a bit of a downer... stars aren't everything but I have always said games and titles are won on the recruiting trail and this class seemed so much stronger than that....

Keep in mind that is just the Rivals rankings. We will likely finish higher in the 24/7 and Scout rankings. Pretty sure Rivals only takes into account the top 20 commits in each class, so our lack of top 100 guys and 5 stars will hurt us when comparing our class to schools that will have multiple 5 stars. IMO, we will definitely finish behind Bama, Ohio State, Tennessee, A&M, Florida State, Auburn, LSU and Miami, with also the possibility of Georgia, Florida and Texas depending on how they each close.

Regardless, I would take our class against most of those. The only classes I think are probably better (or will be better) are Bama, Ohio State, LSU and A&M. I love our class.

Considering that rivals has Trumbetti as a 3 star and BGI has been saying the staff expects him to contribute immediately, I could care less about those rankings.

I wouldn't fret. This is a tremendous class to do its job of shoring up depth and with high-ceiling guys.

If we get Morgan AND Quick we should be looking at top 10. There are so many 5-stars on the board from down south that we aren't in on that it makes it darn near impossible to break top 5. Especially with Tennessee taking 537 commits this cycle.

i think he is refering to all the stuff his family has gathered since his bro plays there.

I should have used italics.

On another note, this is from ESPN recruiting analyst after we got Tyler's commitment:

With four tight ends making significant contributions to NFL rosters, Notre Dame is doing everything it can to chase down Stanford as the present day Tight End U.

I didn't know we were chasing them for that mantra...?

If anything they would be chasing us considering their best TEs came in the last couple years.

The hell?

Last 4 starting TEs have been 1st or 2nd round picks. Rudolph a pro-bowler.

Stanford has... Fleener, Ertz, Tiololo all recently... who else? Am I missing anyone? Reuland and Smith basically don't count. None of those guys are doing anything, although Ertz has tons of upside in Philly and is coming on of late a bit. Certainly not better in quantity, production, or draft slot than what ND has in the league.

Miami definitely used to be Tight End U... and still has Graham/Olsen being VERY productive... but they've tapered off recently.

Brian Kelly is building a dynasty at ND. The future is very bright, and I cannot wait to see what this team will do in the years to come!
