Feel bad for Mack. People say he's a class act and one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. Tough to see how shitty Texas has handled this

Yeah it sucks for him but the program is going downhill. If Colt McCoy never got hurt things might be different.

news in Dallas is Mack is out. No word yet on a replacement. Would be shocked if Briles bails on Baylor. Mack should have gone out with Vince Young, but these guys just hang on and on....always for too long. Class guy, gettin' jacked by the $$$$ boys at UT.

I still don't understand where UT earned this false image of being a blue blood powerhouse in CFB that can pick and choose their heir to the throne.

They weren't relevant until the 60's, and took the 80's and 90's off. Mack's is by far their most impressive (Royal won a title by default, and once even after an embarrassing bowl loss) coach in program history.

They do have more wins than anyone but Michigan (I think we're behind them by two or something like that. Not for long, horns...) but other than that historically they're basically a really, really, really rich Michigan State with a larger fanbase.

They also call the shots for an entire conference and run their own TV network, things Michigan State will never do. They're CFB royalty, almost regardless of record. But, like us, that doesn't mean they can just hire whoever they want. The job would still be a lateral move from any other top ten program (I'd see no particular reason for, say, Jimbo Fisher to jump there) and comes with its own thicket of complications.

Have you ever been to Bama? Do you realize how much of religion UA football is there? People literally live and die over it.

LITERALLY...just look at the reactions following the Bama loss to Auburn the last two times.

They are CRAAAAAZY about FB down in Tuscaloosa.

It's already been touched on, but despite the fact that Texas doesn't have a ton of titles, they're certainly a powerhouse that writes their own ticket. They're the richest program in college football, no one brings in more bucks, so they can pretty much lure away any coach they want that's interested in a pay raise. Aside from the cash, they're in the center of one of the largest recruiting hotbeds in the country. Like it or not, Texas is probably one of the most, if not the most, attractive college coaching position in the country. If Mack hadn't spoiled Texas with nearly 10 straight years of 10 win seasons (Not shabby, even in the Big 12) and two NCG appearances, they would have forgotten about his last 4 pedestrian seasons. That, or they would have shown him the door sooner, can't really tell with Texas.

ruh roh, meltdown in Happy Valley. Maybe Greg Schiano can end up there and ruin them even more.

Yeah, that would suck for PSU. O'Brien has done a great job there and I know the fans would hate to lose him.

If I were a PSU fan I might be interested in Schiano though. I don't know too much about what went on at Tampa Bay, but lots of great college coaches flame the eff out in the pros (Spurrier, Petrino, Saban) so I might not hold that against him, and he really had Rutgers humming.

Too hard to coach in the pros. College you have control over your program, for the most part, but too much money involved in the pros. Schiano could get back to building something at PSU, right mentality one would think. As much as I hate PSU, I really like O'Brien.

Hmmm, we've got to play Texas in a few years, yeah? I'd rather not see what David Shaw could do with Texas money and their recruiting. Stanford is tough as it is after Harbaugh got the wheels turning.

But we recruit against Stanford for the same student-athletes. We NEED Stanford to be an FBS bottom dweller again more than we need UT to be an 8-4 or 9-3 every year.

You make a good point, however, I think Stanford will return to mediocrity over time. Plus, Shaggy Bevo is funnier when Texas is down.

They also essentially own the Big 12 and have their own TV network.
