FWIW.... ESPN just had 'breaking news' scroll across the bottom ticker saying Mack is expected to resign by the end of the week.

I heard something similar on Fox sports radio this morning, so there's probably something to it.

I am a firm believer that if he is being forced out, then they already have Plan A and Plan B in place.

I agree. The crazy thing is that there is only one rumor. If it's not Saban who is it?

FWIW, I don't think it is Saban.

I just don't see a "slam dunk" being out there (assuming Saban rumors are untrue). There's not anyone else that the UT people would love. Maybe I'm wrong.

I firmly believe Saban will be the next Texas coach. I'll eat my crow if it doesn't happen.

Do you guys think that when they say, "step down" they mean "fired"? I'm assuming that it's what that means when Mack is denying it and in FL recruiting. Kinda embarrassing for him.

That's what came to my mind. It smells like a lot of desperation.

Walked to the door, perhaps. He may well be trying to negotiate a buyout so they don't have to "fire" him, which they surely don't want to do. If that's the case, why not go to Florida for some "recruiting?"
Their football banquet is Friday night. This'll be resolved by then, you'd think, at least on the Mack Brown end. Interesting that Malzahn, Sumlin and Briles have all gotten big extensions in the last month. Not that those are inviolable, but it much shortens the list of likely candidates not named Nick Saban.
I still like Gundy for this job.

I wish this would just end sooner rather than later haha. Id love to see Bama fans lose it, but Saban would completely dominate at texas. Which he still pretty much does at Bama anyways

Am I the only one who thinks Texas signing Saban to a ten-year contract would be a mistake for Texas and Saban?
Dude's 62. He's won all there is to win already. He's used to controlling a much smaller pond under a considerably less-intense microscope. The expectations will be out of control. Sure, the money's great but he won't have time to spend it anyway. It's really hard to stay at the top of big-time college football for as long as he has, let alone another decade.
I dunno. I think he'd be better off retiring from Bama in a couple of years and they'd be better off getting someone younger.

I am sure it played out like this:

UT: Mack need a word with you.
Mack: OK, sup?
UT: We'd like you to retire.
Mack: No.
UT: OK.

I am also going to laugh when the final verdict comes down the pipe and Saban is gone. All the bammer fans with the "ITS NOT HAPPENIN" BS.

So what happens if Nick Saban gets to Texas, inherits a roster with 75% + players who aren't good enough or don't fit what he wants to do, and goes 8-4 his first two years? Between OSU, OU, and Baylor, one OOC loss or wtf upset each year creates a pretty reasonable scenario in which this could occur. It won't, but it'd bring so much joy.

He went 7-6 his first year at Bama and that worked out decent enough for him...

Yes, I'm aware 70-somethings can be good football coaches. But the stakes for Bill Snyder at K State are a hell of a lot lower than they would be for $10M/year Nick Saban at Texas. It's all the stuff that doesn't involve coaching football games that wears you down.

Sure. But Saban is a football guy through and through. So is Snyder. I think Saban will coach until he's physically unable to. And he'd win 3-4 national titles in a 10 year contract at a place like Texas.

Look back at Texas's recruiting classes for the past 3-4 years. They are great classes. It's easy to recruit being Texas, in Texas. He'll be alright.
