Hmmm, ok. I'm going to look into it in a bit. Maybe every school is different, but my roommate at Marquette was able to do this for golf.

As long as recruits get Clearinghouse Approval ( for the minimum requirements) schools can do what they want from there.

ND, Stanford and a few others go beyond the NCAA minimums as they take a genuine interest in the recruit succeeding academically and graduating with a meaningful degree. They actually look at the academic capability of the recruit to succeed in THEIR academic environment not merely trying to get them eligible and then barely keeping them eligible semester by semester.

I believe super scoring is less likely on the ACT because of the lack of penalty for guessing. Unless they have changed this, you get no deductions for incorrect answers while on the SAT you do. Granted its been a few years since I took it but that was a big deal in the discussions leading up to the test. Don't ever leave an answer blank on the ACT and leave it blank on the SAT unless you have a reasonable belief it's not something else. The discrepancy in scoring could be in the amount of guessing you got right.

I'm not saying Marquette is Notre Dame, but I know for a fact that Marquette does do 'super scoring' for the ACT for D1 athletes, NOT regular students. FWIW.

So, I'm not sure if it's a secret or unknown or what not, but does anyone know the score he needs in order to qualify?

HE knows. He knows what his Core GPA is and what corresponding test score he needs on the NCAA Sliding Scale. HE also knows what number he needs for ND. I doubt he's sharing that with the public.

Same from BGI: McKenzie has been working his ass off in the classroom and the staff has been really impressed with his focus. He told Loy he studied really hard for the SAT and felt like he did a lot better this time around. Everyone is hopeful that he will qualify for ND. Just waiting on that test score to come in.

If he really wanted Notre Dame and worked hard on his SAT to get there, he sounds like a true ND type of guy

Must be nice to be a football player...I remember mine taking a few months. Let's hope it's great news!

They all turn around this quickly now. My son took it as well and that is the date they gave him too.

Hope IM did well(My son too)!

Yeah, if his scores aren't good enough he's not going to college, period. He's going JUCO. It's do or die.

Oh damn... I had no idea his scores/grades were that bad. I'm sure Miami would love him, a la AQM.

Sorry if it has been posted, but is this his "last chance" of sorts?

The next test date for the SAT is 1/25/14. Results will not be back until after NSD, but I am sure someone will still take him if he gets the right score. This is probably his last chance for ND.

Yeah good point. He would still be able to sign with someone and have the ability to work his way into being eligible, but this is effectively his last chance to qualify before NSD.

I was really asking on the ND side of things, so like it was said previously: yes, this is it for Isaiah.

Don't forget though that NSD is the first day recruits can sign... He would still have time to test to DI minimum as long as any of the schools he is considering are willing to wait.

The process being described is called superscoring. As someone going through the application process right now, I know for a fact Notre Dame does not superscore the ACT. It does superscore the SAT though. Hope McKenzie can join the class!

EDIT: I'm not sure if they superscore the ACT for athletes, but I would assume they have the same policy as other applicants.

Superscoring: Scoring with two chicks on the same night.

The way things work here, between transfers and injuries, wouldn't we be able to sign him sometime late winter/early spring if it turns out that he qualifies after his 1/25/13 test (should he have to take it then)?

You would think we could, but I don't know how admissions handles it.
