Is there any possible way this could happen?

No idea? I haven't heard anyone bring it up but it makes perfect sense to me. Isn't there a motor city bowl in Detroit or something? See this is what I mean bowl tie ins are so stupid, you could come up with awesome entertaining match ups between evenly matched teams. Instead we have to have #6 from the ACC against #8 from the big 12??? For what fucking purpose I have no idea.

Seeing as how I live in Nebraska, I would kill for us to get them in a bowl game this year. Would be great for any bowl considering how well both of our fan bases travel, and we both have woefully underachieved this year. Couple of old school powerhouses meet up on down years.

They have such great fans... Would love to make a trip, hit the 'day before tailgating' and watch classic ND then NU games over some beers... Husker fan is good people.

Music city bowl would be cool since it's the only bowl I could go to without having to book a flight.

I concur, Husker fans are pretty cool and exceptionally friendly with opposing fans...at least compared to some of their B1G brethren. Then again, they came in from the Big XII.

I wouldn't want a rematch with Michigan, personally. We've lost a lot on defense since that game, not to mention some OL, it would play into their favor probably. I just want to come back next season, smash them in the mouth, and be done with the rivalry for awhile. A year ago I wouldn't have said that, but we came out flat this season and had a horrible game plan going in, gave up way too many points to an average Michigan team. They were very beatable, given the losses and near misses they faced this season. It's a game I'm not sure we care about all that much, but they tend to come in ready like it's OSU...of course, they were preparing for us in fall camp before their first game, I'm sure that didn't help.

When will we know what bowl bid we get. I know back a few years ago some teams knew before the conference title games were played but is assume now we won't know until after Saturday?

I'd actually worry we lose to Houston. That'd suck.
It's probably linked some pages back, but Eric Hansen was writing today about the prospects for Boise in the Poinsettia. I could go for that. We don't have a lot of good options.

Is heart of Dallas still an option? Something about playing in a game on New Year's Day just feels better. Either way I just want to win this bowl game.

Pinstripe Bowl
Heart of Dallas Bowl
Pointsettia Bowl
Hawaii Bowl

Those are the options. Well, options that have >1% chance of happening.

Pointsettia bowl most likely is not an option.

They have an agreement with the MACtion until 2019 that will allow a team to fill in a previously pre-designed allotted spot.

After Loss to Stanford, What Are Notre Dame's Bowl Options? | Bleacher Report (It's BR, but Keith Arnold wrote it)

Irish fans hoping a game in San Diego is in the future also will need to see how this coming week plays out. But even though Army is ineligible to participate in the postseason, the Poinsettia Bowl has a backup agreement with the MAC that the game is protecting.

“We would not renege on our agreement with the Mid-American Conference,” Poinsettia Bowl executive director Bruce Binkowski told the South Bend Tribune last weekend. “We have a long-standing relationship with them, either as a backup or a primary team through 2019. And I wouldn’t do anything to jeopardize that.”

Matt Fortuna: You've talked about possibly integrating him into bowl practices. What would be the process with that? What would you hope to get out of him in that limited time?

BK: Now that I'm looking at the schedule and the kind of bowls that we're looking at right now, if he comes back on, let's say the 16th, we're not going to practice again because we're leaving probably on the 20th, 21st, somewhere in there. I really don't even think he'll have a chance to practice, now that we're looking at bowl games that are going to be happening before the 29th of December. It's unlikely, given the timetable, that he would even practice.

Matt: Speaking of bowls, what are you thinking of in terms of options here? I know you've said this will be a reward for the seniors; they seem pretty opposed to cold weather. Would that rule out New York? How open-minded is this process right now?

BK: I don't think it's open-minded. I think we've narrowed it down considerably. I'd say there's probably three bowls that we're looking at. But I think we're really down to a narrow focus on the bowl game situations. And again, I think just to give you a bit of an idea, we tie into ACC bowls next year, and so we'll be part of that rotation beginning next year. So we'd like to examine bowls that are not tied into the ACC for one last go-around, and so our focus is on not being tied into some of those ACC games right now. And we'll see how that plays out.

sounds like the pinstripe bowl is a no-go then?

Yeah I guess not. Matt opens the article with this;

Notre Dame's 27-20 loss Saturday night at Stanford completed Brian Kelly's fourth regular season with the Irish, who went 8-4. Now comes the busy time, as he is dealing with recruiting, staff turnover, potential NFL departures on his roster and, most importantly for the immediate future, figuring out where and when the Irish's bowl game will be. (Sorry, Subway alums in New York.)

And I'm not sure why he says that.

Lame. If we had accepted a Pinstripe bid, I was quite looking forward to taking the train up and catching the game at Yankee Stadium. :(

It sounds like the two in play are Heart of Dallas and Hawaii, because Pinstripe and Little Caesar are cold weather and Poinsettia essentially said no because of their ties to the MAC that they don't want to spoil by taking ND (esp., I imagine, because, with ND's future as an "ACC Bowl Candidate," taking ND this year for the Poinsettia Bowl would amount to a one night stand).

Anybody know the likely opponents for Heart of Dallas and Hawaii?

Sweet. 11:00 AM local time kickoff the day after New Year's Eve. Can't think of anything wrong with that...

Rice, I think. It's normally C-USA versus Big-10, but Big-10 doesn't have enough bowl eligible teams to fill their slots so that's where we'd step in. Apparently BC has the same idea.

I haven't seen this scenario mentioned, but does anyone know if this would be possible:

Many had penciled us into the Pinstripe because the Big12 does not have the 7th necessary bowl-eligible team. As opposed to taking the 7th Big 12 team's slot, is there any chance that there could be a backroom deal and ND could take the bowl spot for the 5th or 6th Big 12 team, and a team like K-State or Texas Tech would go to the Pinstripe instead?

When you start talking about backroom deals, I suppose anything would be possible. It would require agreement from all the coaches, ADs, conference commissioners, and the bowl itself.

General question: why would a 5 or 6 trade a warm weather slot for snowy NYC? What would they get and who would "pay" it?

Stuff like that is what they're actually talking about. ND doesn't want an ACC tie-in bowl, so they're going to try to make a deal where they can switch the Pinstripe with a team from the Poinsettia. Since the Pinstripe has such a good payout, the MAC teams would jump on it. There was a good article about it the other day, I think it was Hansen in the south bend tribune.

I don't know. I always hear mention of "backroom" deals in regards to bowls lol but have no idea how it works.

Weather isn't everything. I'd rather play in the cold in a sold-out Yankee Stadium than fly to Hawai'i and play a nice warm game in front of 10,000 people.

Pinstripe pays $1.8 million. That's a big deal for the smaller schools that don't make a profit from football.

I'm just guessing/trying to read between the lines, but it's starting to sound a lot like the Hawaii Bowl right now. Warm weather, game played on Christmas Eve.

i know we want to go out with a W this year, but i was really hoping for a somewhat attractive BCS conference opponent.

it's been said before playing a non AQ team just seems like a lose/lose to me.
