Soooooooooooooo.... Can anyone defend him over any of the backups tonight? I'm so tired of his poor tackling.

Sure can. The backups are an unknown to us, so there's a clear possibly they could be worse.

What is with IE's conspiracy theory around Farley still having a job? There more to it than the JFK bullshit.

I'm not one to bash our players, but he tackles like a coward.
Hopefully he's just depth next season.

Buster. I like you. I really do. But you have stuck to Farely's guns and the 'You don't see what goes on in practice' theory all season. I sure haven't seen what happens in practice, but I have seen how poor he has played in games. There is nothing that he has done during games that someone else couldn't do. He has been blown up on outside blitzes... he has turned away from tackles... he has tried to tackle from his knees. He has given his all for ND, but frankly, it's not enough for me.

Seriously... rewatch the rushing TD up the middle. He literally smashed the brakes and avoided tackling the RB. There are countless times that he is dragged for 5+ yards after contact.

Me neither. That's why there's a huge chance he'll be third-string next season.

I approach it this way:

Why is Farley still starting? He's either better than the backups or the coaches are screwing us. The coaches aren't screwing us. He's better than the backups.

It's that simple for me.

Personally, he's still starting because this coaching staff is far too conservative with underclassmen. Do you think Jaylon would be playing if Spond weren't hurt? Beyond that, do you think Spond would be better than Jaylon this year?

This is all to apparent in the RB situation. TF is clearly the best back lining up behind Tommy. Yet for some reason, the keep lining up GAIII out there throughout the first half. It should be Cam 45% TF 45% GAIII 10% for running plays. BK and his staff are far too loyal to the seniors and it's hurting the team. That's my only complaint about this staff.

A safety is the last line of defense, they better not be afraid to tackle. His tackling is so ridiculous and hes not good in coverage. Id rather see a safety thats too aggressive and makes mistakes than non aggressive and still making mistakes

Seemed to me that TF got the VAST majority of the carries in the second half. At one point I thought CM must have been hurt.

Two way tie with Rees

Dude Rees is not a top flight QB... But really?? Not even close. There have been many worse than he.

Can't defend Farley much beyond he's giving his all I have no doubt.

I just rechecked the box score and I was mistaken. TF had 14 carries, Cam had 4 and GAIII had 4. I was wrong. Lo siento.

I think Jaylon would have been the #2, and I think Spond would have been better on average. Jaylon has made his share of mistakes, which in my opinion have been overshadowed by the standout successes. I think Spond and Grace would have been the 3rd down MLBs though.

Kelly said they're using Atkinson on stretch zone plays, because he can simply stretch the field better than the other two. That's really just undeniable. Atkinson isn't starting when they're running power and whatnot. The gameplan this game was to run away from Stanford's strength, so they used Atkinson on the outside. It didn't work. Then, they went interior zone with Cam and Folston, it didn't work either. Then they started pulling guards and that's what worked, with Folston too.

At least that's what I saw.

I attested to being wrong about the RB situation this game already. TF was the overwhelming back tonight and rightly so. TF had 14 carries and Cam and GAIII had 4 apiece. The running dispersion was okay for me looking back.

As for the OLB issue, would Counsel be sharing snaps with Jaylon if Spond had not been hurt? With Spond injured, it left Jaylon open to take charge. Sure, he's made mistakes. But none have lost us a game and quite a few of his plays have won us games.

So, what you're saying is we lost because we only ran 22 times instead of 30?

Seriously: Folston had a good night against a rugged defense. Cam was Cam, and the circumstances didn't call for him. Atkinson's runs weren't tough enough. I think we all know where the future lies.

Right, but this is about Farley..... I think. There was some connection between starting OLB and 3rd string safeties originally. I think.

Yes. Well, hopefully the future there lays with Farley being a helpful contributor on our defense and a mentor to starting free safety Max Redfield.

I hope not. If so, Max will come out tackling on his knees.......

Mentor in the "life" sense (Farley by all accounts seems like a wonderful young man). I trust Max can take care of the football-playing part on his own.

I gotta say, I really thought Farley was gonna be a standout this year. He's got some work to do this offseason and I'm sure he will be the first to admit that. Feel like he has lost so e of his edge from last year too. He seemed to be a little crazy and I think that was why he did a decent job in his first year of playing. His second year, he dropped off quite a bit.

BK: I thought (junior safety) Matthias (Farley) was a little shaky in the first series and then I thought he played very well after that. (Senior safety) Austin (Collinsworth) obviously had a very big interception for us. I thought they played well. They were on bodies, we had to utilize them a lot and some of our schemes, we had to fit them in some of the run game. I thought they played solid today.
