First couple of series on offense will be telling. Rees was mentally knocked out of the game in the first series in 2011. Our OL is better, especially up the middle. As long as Rees doesn't experience flashbacks, he will have time to throw.

My worry is that we will have early success passing the ball. Kelly will be less inclined to stick with running the ball. I am not contending that we can run on Stanford, but we better be patient by getting at least three to four yards...with an occasional breakout run.

Stanford like everyone else knows Kelly's tendencies. Stop the run early and we will be less inclined later in the game. Whatever talent advantage on the outside we may have is neutralized by our predictablility. Stanford is also aware that they can force us to check out of runs by how they line up on defense. Stanford will consistently line up with a false front pre-snap. Tommy should use his experience to gauge when and when not to check out of a play.

As long as we attack Stanford with a balanced approach, we will win the game. With a three turnover advantage, Stanford lost last year. They are not Alabama.

This game is a lot like Oklahoma last year. No one giving us a snowball's chance in hell. On paper, with all of our injuries on D that doesn't surprise me at all. I really wonder if with limited depth/talent we can hold up all game up front. And with mounting injuries on the OL, is this the game where we finally see some cracks in the armor?

I think being 16 point dogs while Michigan is 14 point dogs to OSU is a bit crazy though. I doubt we win, but I wouldn't be surprised if we kept it very competitive and found a way to have a shot at the end. We will really, really miss big Lou today.

Pretty much how I feel. Without the injuries I thought we had a really good shot to win. No Lou, no safeties, etc. and I think we keep it close until the 4th where Stanford eventually puts us away and wins by ~10.

I think our biggest problem will be no running game. I think no matter what we will struggle to win that battle. I think we have some advantages on the outside that we use to our advantage. Look for TJ to have a big game. The question is how will our LBs cover the tight ends and can our dline win some battles?

Truth. Kelly & company tend to go all in on the pass attack when they get behind even a little. Let's not do empty backfield pass plays on 3rd and 2 if we're consistently getting 3-4 YPC.

Strategy, personnel and BCS ramifications aside, I want this one in honor of my recently deceased ND classmate and friend, Kurt Bottjer.

<a href="http://s437.photobucket.com/user/dshans/media/KurtampTheresaStanford2005_zpsb6940717.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i437.photobucket.com/albums/qq93/dshans/KurtampTheresaStanford2005_zpsb6940717.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo KurtampTheresaStanford2005_zpsb6940717.jpg"/></a>

This is a shot taken at a tailgate in Eucalyptus Grove in 2005. Kurt is on the left and will be there in spirit, I'm sure. On the right is Theresa, another classmate. She and her husband, a '73 Domer, host a tailgate biannually. This year's edition is in Kurt's memory.

If you at the game, strolling the tailgate "scene" and see her, stop in and mention my name. You might be told to "get the fuck out," but most likely be handed a beer and directed to the table with all the food.

GO IRISH!

I just hope the board doesn't go into full meltdown by the second quarter when we are down

If we are in the same position Michigan was in today at the end of the game do we go for two?

Say it's 31-24 and we score a TD with 10 seconds left. We're on the road and we don't have much to lose. Very, very minimal chance at a BCS game but otherwise nothing. Thoughts?

Go for it especially if Stanford is gashing our D like OSU was to UM

Great question, I think just because of the fact that tommy is not a dual threat quarterback I would take the extra point and go to OT. Limits what you can call, on a play like that id Like to be able to go and put the ball in the hands of a mobile qb who has options to improvise on the fly.

And ofcourse our habit of throwing goal line fades..
If it's golson, I'm flashing a 2

In this case, take the 1 and head to OT.

That's just me.

As long as we stay healthy lets go for it. We got nothing to lose. I hope we play like the teams that have upset us in the past when we had a lot to lose from a late season loss. But just as (maybe more) important for me is staying healthy so we can roll into Yankee Stadium healthy to put another trophy in our trophy case.

I'm with you guys. But I could see this board flipping a shit if we didn't get it even though it would be the right decision.

Very valid logic. I just hope we wouldn't go empty backfield. Niklas or TJ in the back of the endzone would be my target on some sort of Mesh play.

Nick Martin on the travel roster, no doubt to serve as tutor for Matt Hegarty, who is making his first career start tonight.

Torii Hunter Jr. also on travel roster.

Hank is an irish fan?

In Lou's last press conference, he said he's now watching Breaking Bad and was pissed he didn't meet 'Hank' when he was on the sidelines. Dean then tweeted him saying he'll see him at Stanford. Must be awesome to be a top tier D1 athlete.
