BK commented earlier about the team needing to fine tune the little things on field and off...ala keeping the locker room clean and showing up to meetings on time would probably fall under that catagory. Football coaches are a different breed and this is just setting an example to the team that sh*t needs to be together at all times. I see nothing wrong with it. I have a feeling if a BCS bid was on the line it might have been dealt with differently, but a W or L doesnt affect where ND goes bowling.

As for them doing something more....I would highly doubt it. Eilars dad is a pretty straight forward guy and thats a pretty detailed answer.

As for the game, I dont think this decision really hurts ND too bad. Itll hurt depth wise if someone gets hurt but experience/production arent going to go way down bc of it.

Apparently Shumate is out because of reinjury of Hanstring per his dad. But BK says neither player made trip because of violation of team rules.

Lol, this season's luck is worse than 2011's.

If we win tomorrow, it will be more impressive than when the Little Giants finally got it to 2nd and 9 against the Cowboys.

That's what I don't get about the Redfield situation. Maybe the other safeties are just flat out playing better in practice. Hardy/Shumate were both highly rated, and Farley/Collinsworth are the only people with a bit of experience back there. But IF he is showing glimpses of being the most dominant athlete the time to get him reps is now... not in 2014 against an even harder schedule with Golson back while trying to compete for a BCS bowl.

Lax I couldn't agree more. Once BCS is out of the picture, it's time to let guys like Redfield learn on the job especially with a redshirt already burned. I will be fuming if he doesn't get at least a little time given Shumate and Hardy are out.

everyone be chill I am in Rome, Italy for the weekend and will be hitting up the Vatican to light a crap load of candles and praying to Saint Anthony so Farley can find some game. I got this.

Exactly how many candles do they have over there?

How is Stanford's vertical pass game? I've never gotten the impression that they thrown the ball downfield very much.

As much as people talk about "Redfield couldn't make more mistakes than Farley" etc, he could play a perfect game except for two plays and still end up hurting us more if Stanford can catch him out of position deep. I'd assume that's why they're so hesitant to play him- stakes are just so high in terms of opponent's points per mistake.

Two players suspended by Kelly for violating team rules? That is just Kelly copying off of Lou Holtz.

(against SC for all of the marbles.)

If anyone can help Farley, its got to be Saint-Anthony of Pàdua. He never once failed me. I have some crazy stories about that.

Yeah, Kelly has said as much, in comparing Redfield and Folston (that they're comparable talents but Redfield's position has far less margin for mental error). That said, you're right, Stanford isn't a big downfield passing team. They can do it with Montgomery, but it doesn't seem like a big part of their arsenal.
I'm not sure what that means in relation to Farley or Redfield, though. You can blow a play just as easily by being out of position to make a tackle as you can by being out of position and getting beat deep.

Apparently Shumate had reinjured his hamstring during the week, and it would have limited his play on Saturday anyway.

About Max:
The suspensions may push Max Redfield into extensive action for the first time after the five-star freshman got an endorsement of patience from head coach Brian Kelly earlier in the week. Redfield has 10 tackles in 10 games, but most of his work has come on special teams.

"He's learned a lot and he's grown a lot, and he's at a position now where he's starting to feel pretty comfortable," Kelly said.

Really, at this point, is there any downside to throwing Redfield out there? Worst that happens is he misses a tackle.

I think the worst that could happen would be him giving up multiple TD's because of his inexperience. BUT I still wanna see him get some meaningful PT.

Isn't that a snapshot of this whole game?

What does ND have to lose? Absolutely nothing, listen to me . . .

We are in the best psychological place we have been for years with a west cost team.

We do have the talent. It is the last game of the season. Win or loss we are not going to grossly affect the outcome of our bowl selection. And this game matters less to the Cardinal. They are still playing for the Pac12 Championship and a berth in the Rose Bowl.

Guys I'm gonna have to say I'm NOT nervous about this game. If we lose I'll be disappointed but we win we have the chance to win the pinstripe bowl and have a good season. We lose and we still have the chance to have a good season by winning the pinstripe bowl. As long as we avoid injuries and don't get humiliated today I'm ok. We have nothing to lose really IMO just need to relax enjoy being in California in late November and have fun because we have nothing to lose with a loss but a satisfying feeling of ruining senior night with a win.

just hope no one leaves seriously injured. not that i'm afraid of being beat up, i'm just worried about the way it seems like every week we've had a serious injury.

hope that's not the case tonight

This. And all indications are that W or L, this game will NOT affect whichever bowl game ND plays in this year. While I understand that Stanford is a rival, both on the field and in recruiting, we are what? 14.5 pt dogs? Keep the game respectable and I highly doubt anyone will hold it against ND. Get the kid his reps now so he can prove himself and earn some bowl game PT. Take THAT into next year, and the world can be his oyster in 2014.

I see your point of view, but I think it'd be best if Redfield got more practice time during bowl prep and saw more time during that game.

I understand that the bowl destination doesn't depend on the result of this game, but I'd argue that wins/losses against Stanford matter quite a bit. If Redfield gives the team the best chance to win (may be a valid argument), then he should be on the field. Otherwise, it's unfair to the upperclassman to put him out there.

This, totally, especially the last part. Kelly has a responsibility to do his utmost to win every game.

This game is a lot like Oklahoma last year. No one giving us a snowball's chance in hell. On paper, with all of our injuries on D that doesn't surprise me at all. I really wonder if with limited depth/talent we can hold up all game up front. And with mounting injuries on the OL, is this the game where we finally see some cracks in the armor?

I think being 16 point dogs while Michigan is 14 point dogs to OSU is a bit crazy though. I doubt we win, but I wouldn't be surprised if we kept it very competitive and found a way to have a shot at the end. We will really, really miss big Lou today.

Do you think ND will mirror Stanford with a lot of 2 TE sets and unbalanced lines?

I predict a lot of play action pass from an empty set backfield.

Seriously, and I don't want to sound like Purdue, I care more that they play with a lot of heart and hang tough; one of the good things about the transition from the Weis era is that Kelly's teams don't often quit, even when out-manned. So lacking the upset, which I think we are probably too thin to pull off on the road to a team that's still upset about last year, I will take a strong showing, played to the end.

AND stay healthy. Houston, Louisville, or Cincy will bring it in the bowl so we need every sarter we can get.

I think we're going to have a really tough time running on them.

I think we start out airing it out, and use the pass to set up the run.

I'm praying that we get a successful screen play this game to Amir.
