OVERALL TRAITS
Size-Strength-Speed
Very good size and frame for the position, particularly in zone schemes, and he knows how to utilize it. Speed is good -- he plays faster than his testing times would likely indicate -- and brings very good range to the position. Watkins possesses the size, strength and quick transitional movements to match up in both press and off-man coverage.
Instincts/Recognition
Aside from having great physical attributes, he also has great recognition skills and innate awareness of where he is on the field at all times. Understands how to squat and mid-point high-low routes. Shows good recognition for quick game. Uses eyes well to see play develop underneath and is a reactive athlete who can quickly jump routes.
Coverage Skills
A natural playmaker at the position with great ball skills. Shows versatile and polished skill set in both man and zone schemes. Sharp change-of-direction and burst coming out of his fluid pedal. Displays very good balance and fluidity for a bigger corner when locked up. Can drop his weight, flip hips and transition smoothly making a 180-degree turn and stick tightly with WR. Wins a lot of 50-50 balls and will go up and naturally make a play. Times his jumps well and has the strength and long arms to match up with bigger receivers in one-on-one downfield or red zone battles. Shows ability to pull in interception outside of frame. Utilizes his strong hands when in press alignment and takes away the receivers inside release. Will still need to get stronger and build up his strength to adjust to bigger college receivers, but he has frame to do so.
Run Support
Good wrap tackler. At times he will duck his head and will get stuck on blocks but has the size and enough explosive movements to develop as a run support and edge setter and in zone schemes. Might end up as a back-end defender in college with his great range and zone coverage skills, particularly if he can continue to develop physically.
Bottom Line
Watkins is a gifted athlete and very good overall football player who actually could get recruited to play on either side of the ball. We feel corner will likely be the spot he settles on as his size, speed and fluid transitional skills out on the perimeter are coveted at the college level. Overall, Watkins has a lot of physical talent, intangibles and has been coached up well on the mental aspects of the game. Should offer coveted scheme versatility.

I think Coach Cooks is getting too liberal with the retweets...
