'15 CA QB Blake Barnett (Arizona State Transfer)

I think kid could be a good recruit. He runs to much for my liking. And i think his arm is Ok nothing special.

You base this on film?
Apparently, he's the best QB in high school football right now and the staff seems really excited about him.

All of his throws look like they have a loft to them more then other QBs film i have watched. He does't put as much behind it on the shorter to throws. I think he is a much better passer when he is on the run. He does throw the ball hard then IMO.

It was just one anonymous person who 'has knowledge of QBs' opinion.

If 'they' thought he was the best QB in the country, he'd be #1 in the service's rankings.

Currently, he's the # 20 and #22 QB in 247/composite.

Ya well this is before his film came out so I am sure he will get reevaluated. Only 24 7 and scout have them out so far. 24.7 might be the best when it comes to player rankings.

I was addressing this question: "Why do they feel he is the the best QB in the nation?"

No idea. I really liked Blake's film though.

Edit: I haven't seen Bennevnti's film. People didn't seem too excited about him so I didn't bother.

By film only i would rather have Blake. Bennevnti's film was hard to gauge his throws. IMO the camera angles were bad. I don't know if it was the camera or just he didn't throw the ball more then 15 yards are so.

His dad fully expects him to get up to around 210-215 by next season. So him arriving at his school of choice around 220 is very realistic. There is plenty to work with.

Golson/Zaire are the QBs he has been looking for. Golson's situation just put them behind the 8 ball this year. Its not recruiting that has put ND in the situation they are in. Kelly didnt have any part in Golson/Gunner not being part of the team this year. Barnett def fits the build but hes in the same catagory as Golson/Zaire. It would have been interesting to see Zaire in a spread in high school vs a wishbone/triple option attack.

Yeah I'm 100% sold on this kid. I get what TP is saying but, I think of the QB's on the roster vs. Blake, I'd take Blake everytime. Those JR highlights look special.

We all love Golson, but Blake is much bigger and seems a bit faster in my opinion. I do give Golson the edge in throwing the ball, regardless would love to have both of them on our team!

One of the hottest names this fall has been Corona (Calif.) Santiago's Blake Barnett, who reminds some of a bigger Marcus Mariota but is arguably an even better runner. The more I think about it, he and Brady White are by far my two favorite prospects in the '15 cycle for what we want to do. I think both could be Heisman level players.

For QBs, I would agree provided Kelly/Martin don't arbitrarily decide to change the offensive identity again to more of a traditional pro-style offense.

ISD 2015 recruiting preview is up today. On Barnett, they reiterated that ND made a big impression on him during his visit. At this early stage, they think he is the most likely QB to end up here.

Hes been working out with Steve Clarkson (arguably the best qb coach in the cou try) after practice but not changing too much bc he is in season. The offseason I suspect he will be working on his release and footwork. But ND knows just how good he can be and I like Where ND is at right now.

I think that's a safe list minus Stanford and Cal right now. Oregon seems all in on Brady White and I don't blame them. He looks so smooth and polished already and is a great blend of arm talent + athleticism.

USC hasn't offered and might be looking at different players depending on who the HC ends up being. So I'd say UCLA is the serious competition as things stand right now, and that's always very apt to change.

Way to early to tell. ND is in good shape with Blake and the family and made a great impression with how they handled his visit and offer. He is doing a great job by getting out to a ton of school right now, so whenever he narrows it down, he has more facts than most kids do. Clarkson is someone that ND has probably worked with before in Clausens recruitment and that turned out well, and its not a bad thing to have his experience with ND....aka Vanderdoes trainer. By no means saying he is in NDs corner, but with the kids he sends to colleges each year, he isnt under the influence of anyone other than himself.
