“My family’s really had to struggle basically all of my life,” Wood said. “I just wanted to get them out of that situation. I can really care less about me. I really don’t do it for me. Yes, I love the game. Yes, I love the competitiveness. This is the highest stage of them all. Like I said, at the end of the day, I don’t do this for me at all. If I can make a lot of money and I can give it all to my daughter, that’s exactly what I plan to do. If my mom can live happy and I can do some things to help her, help my dad, help my brothers and sisters, that’s what I’m going to do. At the end of the day, I can really care less about me. As long as my daughter is fine and my family is okay, I’m okay at that point.”

What an awesome young man he is, Notre Dame served him well and I'm sure Notre Dame is proud of the way he is representing the University!

I am sorry, but what a moron. Foster and Tate both got injured and this would have been his chance to step up.

Bad timing for Cierre, he had the chance (albeit small) to see a few more snaps with Foster's status in the air.

More surprising is the release of Sam Montgomery, a 3rd rd pick in 2013 from LSU.

but yeah, dumb dumb Cierre.

Actually, Jefferson had the most upsdie. Dude is a pure pass rusher and a freak.

Montgomery, like at LSU, is a lazy POS.

Cierre really screwed up. Foster has a hammy issue and Tate needs to be spelled. And Tate is likely gone next year anyway...

Moron.

**** Cierre, come on.

my sentiments too...

you can talk about reasons for entering the NFL...

but if this situation turns out to be in line with the speculation...well, all I can say is...someday a little girl is going to need some explanation...because it appears right now she had less to do with wanting out of ND than did the notion of Mary Jane w/o consequences...

Good point. Anyone who is serious about their career and child doesn't do stupid **** like this. He left, supposedly, to take care of her?? Sure.

Cierre has a past of being a moron (although most on this board won't admit it) and that's why he didn't get the carries last year.

Smoking weed = lied about reason for leaving ND. Got it

Smoking weed = bad dad. Got it.

And, we don't even know what he did, yet. Facts be damned, they've never stopped us before

Go back one page and read the article that is posted. CW talking about what a blessing this(making the team) is and how his family has always struggled. IF the reason he is getting kicked off the team is pot then yes, that is being a bad dad.

I cannot for the life of me understand how an NFL player cannot abstain from smoking weed.

I think given his circumstances...you gotta wander...

See, the thing is, an ND degree is huge...to leave that on the table, and venture into the NFL draft early w/o assurance you are 2-early 3 rd round seems a borderline decision if you want to provide....

He said he wanted to provide...he was sure of himself, and his decision...so you take him at his word....then he falls completely out of the draft, and then somehow hangs on w/ the Texans...the window for PT starts to open...the chance to provide is at his feet...then this

So...IF this is weed...no matter your beliefs about weed's legality, at the very least he chooses it, and derails himself at some of the most inopportune moments...the very moments that impact his ability to provide via football...

Pretty sure he graduated before heading to the NFL. Could be wrong.

Just so dumb. I mean, I did an awful lot of dumb stuff when I was 23 so I'm not saying I don't understand (I was just lucky enough not to get caught), but to bust your *** to make an NFL team after going undrafted, and then to jeopardize it all just to get high (assuming that's what happened) is just so, so tragic. I'm just sad for him.

prefaced everything I said with IF True...and if it were true I question him, the things he's said about his motivations...and how that would seem pretty hollow

I hope it wasn't...I hope it was something stupid like, curfew, or bad food, or an argument with a fan boy...I hope he is who he says he is...

Screw the "he graduated" crap. He just potentially cost himself millions of dollars because he can't stop SMOKING POT DURING THE SEASON.

Seriously. You excuse makers for Cierre can't see how ****ing dumb that is for a guy with a young daughter at home?!?!??!!

No, it's him being dumbass and he deserves it.

It's not like he got injured or hit by a car. That is tragic.

He deserves zero sympathy.

It's drugs and partying. My degree in mass comm has me plugged in with some college friends that work for the Houston media.

Called my buddy at lunch

I loved Cierre when he was at ND, but never would have drafted the guy (one of the only ND draftable players I will ever say that about). Always seemed me-first, and he didn't have the game to match the swagger.

I felt the opposite about Theo Riddick's attitude. He did all the little things and had a much better demeanor on the field than Cierre. His interview in the locker room after Bama will always make him one of my favorite players, and he was so worthy of being a late-round pick for his heart alone.

You skipped English class, apparently ... tragic heroes are undone by a fatal flaw. Cierre's problems are his own doing; that doesn't make them any less tragic.

And I agree he deserves zero sympathy; I don't have sympathy for him. I am sad because a young man whom I have been rooting for may have thrown away his chance at his NFL dream. Why shouldn't I be sad about that just because it's his own damn fault (assuming it is)?
