We all bitch and moan about recruiting RKGs, but that is EXACTLY what Kelly needs to do. That is basically what Stanford does. RKGs like ND. Other kids don't so much- culture matters.

The fact is, if the kid is a stud and really wants to go to ND, sign him up. Georgia boys TJ Jones and Tuitt are studs who fit perfectly. I am not saying avoid 5 stars. But we may need to screen for kids who may not be able to handle the fact that ND is not FSU.

A 4-star in the hand, is better than a 5-star transfer!

I don't think Hood fits this description, btw. He was worth the swing and miss.

Here's hoping Bryant stays!

Yup. And there were a lot of alternative options last cycle like Corey Clement who has been showing out pretty well at Wisconsin. West Coast/Florida guys seem to have a much higher rate of washing out than other guys.

Sh*t happens, but maybe it's time to look at the recruiting philosophy a little and make some tweaks.

It's not just Jerry. JimmyMac just confirmed, and Baratti's tweet seems to address this directly.

This has been a basically done deal for awhile... usually kids stick it out until the end of the season though before making a move. That's the only surprising part.

Whoever 'dame fan' is,

I've always assumed it's TP. But then again I think TP is a group of people. It's weird though because TP writes with thought, dame fan's blog is like a whacko ND fan on cocaine.

Clement is gonna be a good one at UW. 40+ carries, 300+ yards and 4 TDs already

I guess Golson will have to hand the ball off to Folston next year. I'm comfortable with that.

Same story, different year. You can basically write off about 50% of the top if each cycle as a transfer. I expect the same this year until I'm proven otherwise.

Every transfer sets the positional depth back a few years. It's really hurting our program.

Kelly needs to rethink his recruiting approach. Recruit the right areas of the country and only take chances on studs that are genuinely interested from the beginning.

Have you seen his blog? It's borderline... unreadable... The guy writes... like a teenage girl texting her BFF.

TP can at least write a sentence without 3 separate ellipses. I'm very confident they're not the same person.

Weird to me that 5 freshman were made available to the media today, but we have only seen quotes from Redfield. I thought Folston was supposed to be involved as well. Would have assumed we would have seen quotes from him and Redfield, not just Redfield.

You can't sign 5-6 five stars in two years and let 3-4 of them transfer within a year and expect everything will just work out fine for the program... at a certain point you have to sign them and keep them.

At a certain point you have to look at yourself and figure out if maybe you are somewhat responsible for their departures or some of them!

This! Not saying its a certainity but looking like this is going to happen.

And we've known for some time too. I'm kinda already over it. They need to get a stud in 2014 and they'll be just fine. Hood would have been perfect. :(

I think Folston is a stud though. I'm not really that worried.

Of all of these five-star deflections, the only one that truly ****ed Notre Dame is Gunner Keil. Kinda crazy how most of these deflections have been resolved with depth and/or were niche positions.

Not saying that having them wouldn't be great, but none of them have been "Well there goes the season..." moments.

??? I would not pretend to have any impact on ND players staying or leaving...

there not the same person lol. I am sure you have all seen Jerry on FB, twitter, his stupid *** blog and youtube. Could be the biggest ND homer I've ever seen but I will give the man credit he is a die hard ND man

Eddie Vanderdoes ****ed us more than Gunner long term.

Well if there were two "reaches" in '13 it was Vanderdoes and Bryant. Maybe Hunter and Folston too. So it's not exactly surprising that a five-star RB from Florida wants the path of least resistance (if this is all true).

It would be great to have Clement now, but we weren't really in a position to take 3 RBs last cycle. Taking both Folston and Bryant was the better play, even with the transfer.

Agreed, but Gunner's presence could have been something this year. It's the only one with an immediately noticeable difference in my opinion.

Yeah, most of us could see the writing on the wall. I was excited about Greg but if he can't be patient and earn his reps well what could we do about that. I don't blame Kelly, he is with those guys every day and I know he is going to play whoever helps us win right now, as it should be.

I also agree with you on Folston. From the limited sample we have seen, I believe he has the making of a stud back.

yeah our transfers are usually the late adds it seems. Kiel last minute enrolling, Vanderdoes on nsd after being usc for a while, Greg joined super late after being already committed.

the recruiting philosophy after season ends changes from finding fits (rkg) & positional needs to poaching imo. thats is the disconnect. yourtryingto convince a teenager to make life decision in two months and 5+ staffs all doing it. we end up making promises to stand out then reality hits.

there are too many talented 3:s: kids who love nd that end up being the guy at some average to below average big10, acc, etc team instead of with us.if were gonna get aggressive and poach after seasons end it should be those kinds of players not the glorifieds waiting to see who is going to get on their knees

This has been a basically done deal for awhile... usually kids stick it out until the end of the season though before making a move. That's the only surprising part.

It has been a long time coming... I've been convinced for a while he wouldn't stick for various reasons. One being a video of him introducing himself on the first day of classes-- everyone else said their intended major, while Greg said "I'm here to play football." While it was "funny" at the time, it surely wasn't a good indicator of his future academic performance.

As well, if Tarean's getting reps over him, what would you do? The three older rbs who are playing will all be back next year, and if Tarean is playing over Greg I'm sure its been taking a tole on him.

The fact of the matter is people need to chill the **** out. Stars don't mean as much as we make them out to be. Losing a player of Greg's caliber hurts and something is wrong in the program. BUT theres A REASON WHY TAREAN IS PLAYING AND NOT GREG. BK is not looking at 247 and being like, well Greg had a higher composite so we should play him. BK is watching practice and evaluating talent as he sees it. Does anyone really think we have a coach stupid enough to not see this coming? BK knew exactly what he was doing when he played Tarean over Greg; the fact of the matter is the Tarean is better.

Sure, I would love for no transfers, and something needs to change. But get your panties out of a bunch. We are fine, will be fine, with or without Greg Bryant.

FINALLY, everyone here should be thanking BK and his staff for keeping the players who are here and dedicated here. If you knew how difficult it was for players to keep pace academically you would realize why its tough for people to stick. It takes the right kind of guy to play at Notre Dame. And not this RKG bullshiit that Kelly spits out. David Shaw knows whats up. We need to mimic our recruiting after their style, and that's something were seeing more and more of. Its a tough balance, but we're headed in the right direction.
