The other big white dude in that photo, besides Elmer ... that's Mark Harrell?

He looks big. Hopefully he can be a solid, game-ready second-stringer this year.

Heurman is not you classic inline TE. I want you to think of Heurman as an Aaron Hernandez type TE, more of an H-Back.

True.

Yeah but Tyler Eifert isn't your average inline TE either and still goes 6'6" 260. Heuerman looks to be about 6'3" 215-220. I realize he can put on some weight, but 30-40 pounds of good weight on his frame is asking a lot. Maybe they'll just split him out wide even more than they did Eifert? I'd be very much in favor of that.

Also, not to read too much into one picture, but it looks like Elmer has lost some bad weight. He's looking pretty trim and athletic for a human his size.

Steve has looked good since the spring. Coach Hiestand likes him a lot.

That is why he used Aaron Hernandez as an example. Hernandez is 6'1" 245 pounds.

I think Sherm used the Hernandez comparison because they have similar body types. At 6'3", 6'4" at best, Mike will never be built like Eifert, but he could be built like Hernandez. Hernandez is not even 6"3" and weighs 245. Heuerman is long with really broad shoulders and I think he could easily get up to 245, a la Hernandez.

Edit: oops, beaten by pkt.

I had no idea that Hernandez was so short. Disregard my suggestion of Eifert being a better comparison.

I've seen Hernandez listed at 6'2.5" ... which means he's probably no more than 6'1".

But does he have the same "killer" instinct?

Hernandez was 6'2" at the 2010 NFL Combine. That's probably the most accurate measurement for him. I think the Heuerman/Hernandez comparison is a good one.

Can someone post hernandez's mug shot so we can verify his height?

It's funny because I'm being serious.

Yeah I get that. My point was that we haven't, as far as I'm aware, ever had a TE similar to Hernandez. Everybody I remember has been 6'5"-6'7", 250-260 a la Eifert and Rudolph. Given that, where does Heuerman fit in our offense, or do we have to adjust the offense to accommodate his relative lack of size?

Fasano is 6'4''.

The staff won't have to make any radical changes to the offense to utilize Heuerman. He'll just be split out wide more frequently than Smythe.

Heuerman is fine. Hes a freshman. Hes right about the size Eifert was coming in. His brother at osu put on good weight in their program and if you have met/seen their father...hes a big guy. Heuerman loves to block and has the work ethic to get to where he needs to be. You cant teach those things, and you can add weight to anyone. Hes got a skill set that you cant teach, and his weaknesses now are things that you can strengthen.

No kidding. I would add to simply turn on the tape. I don't care if we found out Heuerman was six feet even, the kid has an insane skill set. I don't care where he is lined up as long as we throw it in his general direction and let him beast mode all over db's and/or lb's.

This reminds me:

I stayed up all ight partying and had an 8 am Calculus class. I stumbled in reeking, barefoot and wearing this on my shirt

I put up a good fight for about 3 minutes then flopped out like the girl. My teacher hit me with a piece of chalk in the head that he threw across the room and told me to wake up or GTFO. I GTFO.

Funny I did the exact same thing... just too immature and nearly flunked out of CSUSB, a bad school... then took some time, re-enrolled at a better private school and went 4.0 the rest of the way all through on to my MA..
