So basically his parents who were pushing him to stay home the entire time won out and/or jimmymac's nugget.

Why. Recruiting. Your. Backyard. Is. Important.

If his parents told him to stay home instead of go to Notre Dame, then quite frankly they are idiots and are doing him a huge disservice. If it's actually because he's having a kid, the dude is just an idiot.

Then he should just say he's going to the closest school (UNC?). He shouldn't be 'opening it up' if it's all about staying home.

Not the news I wanted to hear this Tuesday. Oh well, we just have to let the coaches do their thing and recruit another high quality back out there.

Great point.

If it's truly about missing home, which it's not and almost NEVER is, why do these kids "open it up"?? Just pick the place down the street.

Respect for him caring that much about family. However this was the the problem when he first came to ND. Sounds almost like an Eddie V situation all over again.

I don't follow any other school's recruiting but I have to believe that we have had the worst luck or whatever you want to call it with commits and transfers recently (other than USC last year)...

This is no comparison to Vanderdoes. The season hasn't even started yet. Sure it sucks, but it isn't like he did this is Februrary.

Yep. Bright side? Finding out in August >>>>> February 2nd.

we still have a stomping in Ann Arbor and a beat down of Troy at our place for every recruit in the country to see.

This sucks and I think he's truly elite (even better than Greg Bryant), but there's time on our side on this one.

Breaks. Pump.

I'm not sure what breaks should be pumped.

We're only on this planet once, so you should feel the imperative to go to the places and be around the people where you can reach your highest level of achievement and will be around the people who will push you to do so. That's part of what parents are supposed to be there for, to help their children understand this and guide them in this regard. His parents are just flat out not doing that if they suggested he go to some football factory where the education is worth next to nothing.

Regarding being an idiot for knocking up someone in high school, that's separate from this conversation about Elijah for now because it's just a rumor, but most people manage to go through high school without knocking someone up or getting knocked up. It's insanely irresponsible from a financial and broader social perspective, and so I don't see the constant need for people to be apologizing on anyone's behalf for having a kid in high school and making it seem like it's ok, when it's not.

Basically if he ends up outside of UNC, Duke, NC State, Wake, Clemson, and SCAR, the distance thing is just lip service and he doesn't want to go to ND anymore.

My guess is he ends up at UNC but will look at other schools.

I'm just shocked, lol. I thought we'd have a major defection, but I was all in on it being Jay Hayes. The last person I expected was Hood.

It figures i get to hear this when im having a great day haha. Not like it ruined my day because its just recruiting anyways im not gonna get bothered by that. But it is frustrating. Good thing theres time to find another back and we're stacked in that position, im just ready for a beatdown come aug. 31

This is the part where the parent is supposed to push you to the road that will better serve you in life...just as my Dad did when I was 17.
