“Another guy who doesn’t have an offer yet who I’ve been on is Braxton Berrios. He’s a very, very fast, very, very agile slot receiver. I’m going to take it back to the coaching staff and have them reevaluate him. He’s the go-to receiver for his team here being 5-9 max. He’s a little guy, but the kid makes moves. He’s a go-getter, he’s a winner. That’s the kind of guy I would like to throw to, someone who I can get the ball to in the open field and he’s going to get as many as he possibly can.”

Berrios is a prospect out of Raleigh, N.C., who has a top five of Clemson, Kentucky, South Carolina, West Virginia and Tennessee.

“He carries a 4.3 GPA, so I know he has the grades and character to be with the Fighting Irish,” said Kizer. “Now it’s just about getting him introduced to the coaching staff, have them reevaluate him and hopefully put out an offer.

“He has a top five, but those top five are from schools who have already offered. I talked to him last night for about an hour about Notre Dame, just explaining my thoughts about Notre Dame and how I feel about the school and he seemed really interested. He said the next step is just getting the coaches interested in him before he can be interested back. He doesn’t want to put any time into a school who doesn’t have interest in him.”

Kizer feels comfortable enough with Irish offensive coordinator Chuck Martin to make those kinds of suggestions.

Getting a good feel for the kind of guy that DeShone is? I haven't heard anything but this kind of stuff ever. And by pure coincidence I have talked to at least ten of his classmates and or their parents. A few teachers, too.

Damn.
Some elite recruits use their leverage to get scholarship offers for their buddies or cousins or whatnot. This guy's trying to get offers for an "agile slot receiver" he thinks is underappreciated. I like that.

this is the reason The Opening, UA and AA bowl games are so important nowadays. you get a couple of big time recruits on board and they put in the work selling your program to the undecided kids.

Kudos to Deshone for getting after it on the recruiting front. Thats what we need from these kids. However I just watched all the available tape that I can on Braxton. His game is very similar to that of Mckenzie's, almost identical, so I just don't see it happening. We worked out Mckenzie in person, have developed a relationship, and unless he were to decide to go elsewhere this probably doesn't happen. With that said Braxton looks to be one heck of a slot/APB type player and wish him the best.

This is great. DK has a future as a politician or diplomat if he so desires!

He basically called 7 on 7 a pussy game that had nothing to do with football, and pointed out all the advantages he got out of the week, while taking personal responsibility for everything!

I didn't like the 7 on 7 anytime I saw it, let alone the self-serving, self-promoting ESPN clatter-trap I heard from this Nike advertisement of an event.

dang, he has a VERY strong arm, some of those misses by the WRs were due to not being able to handle his strong arm. His accuracy may need a little work, but that is easily fixable/coachable for a guy still in high school. Someone else said it, but a multiple sport athlete comes with his cons as well. Once he commits full to football, I see him being a talent. We dont need him to play right away anyway.

I think DK has taken over the head recruiting position for this class from Hood.

His love for ND already is awesome.

He is going to take a very active role in recruiting of other players. He is a natural leader and will try to be on campus as much as possible during the fall. He wants players to associate him with the class. He is not going to be a hype-man for the class but rather a salesman. He is going to take a methodical approach and lay out what ND offers and how each player specifically fits into the program.

Is this from ISD intel?

I just watched an episode of The Opening.
Kizer's team was playing and they had him at center!
Even after the QB (KY commit) kept throwing interceptions.
Not sure how the playing time is split up, but was disappointed not to see him play or even mentioned for Elite 11.

One other note- Lazard is on his team, but no mention of trying to recruit him in the interview videos?

They split the playing time equally. As for Lazard I believe he did mention recruiting him in the free ISD article.

They split time equally in pool play but in the tournament I believe they were only guaranteed a half and then the coach could go with whoever he wanted. I believe Kizer and Carta Samuels each only played a half and Barker played much more than that.

wait... how? I thought people were saying he stunk it up at the opening?

To be there you had to be one of the top at the position. His measurables were good. He got Dilford's blessing. He was seen as a three sport project from the start. He had a perceived good work ethic and a really good attitude. He tried hard. He made some progress. He came off as really smart. And as he said, "If the linebackers drop into coverage like that ever, I will have eight yards."

JC's explanation:

He's a tall player that will fill out his frame that has a big arm= pro-style quarterback.

We are thinking of doing away with Dual-Threat and Pro FWIW. Quarterback seems to be quarterback these days. I felt that switching Kizer was only fair because he has that type of potential in the passing game.

I agree with doing away with the dual threat and pro style. They both play the same position

I think the PRO vs DUAL QB rankings are borderline racist. Scroll down the lists and you'll see the PRO QBs are basically white and the DUAL QBs are basically African-American with very few exceptions on either side. I'm happy to hear they are thinking about changing it. They may want to consider doing the same with APB vs RB. I do think there's some merit to the WDE vs SDE distinction though.
