Nice, glad it's official. I like this pickup. A versatile linebacker like this gives us a lot of flexibility in chasing top LB prospects in this class.

Love to hear that. Who knows, maybe this kid will be a top-rated guy before it's all said and done. Either way, it sounds like he can really play. We may have discovered a real hidden gem.

He plays in Missou, so that may be a reason he is rated lower. His tape looks really good for his ranking.

He can play DL and all four LB spots... if he can play RB and WR he's bascially the next Anthony Vernaglia...

To **** with stars and rankings. The coaches got to see Bonner up close against some quality offensive linemen. They offered and accepted his commitment without hesitation. That's plenty good enough for me. Welcome to the Golden Army, Jonathan!

St. Louis isn't exactly a high school football hotbed (Ezekiel Elliot aside, of course), though Parkway Central is one of the better programs around. He was first team all-state in the biggest division last year.

East St. Louis is absolutely churning out talent right now though, Terry Beckner Jr. is the #2 player for 2015. Andy Bauer, Roderick Johnson, & Brian Wallace are three elite OL this year too.

Wow, he seems like a great kid. 3.8 GPA, lifelong ND fan ... what's not to like.

True. But if you live in STL (as you appear to) you know the East Side is a whole different animal than Parkway. And those kids seem mostly to go to Illinois.
Good point on the O Linemen. And there have been some others recruited nationally the last few years, just always been unclear to me why HS football here isn't better.

Awesome. Looks like we found a diamond in the rough. Happy for the Bonner family.

Comparing this to Turner is ridiculous IMO . Any db that was 6foot and ran a 4.5 and had a heart beat was in then. We needed bodies.

For Parkway Central (Chesterfield, Mo.) linebacker Jonathan Bonner it was an easy choice.

“You can pretty much say that it's my family’s school, so I've decided to commit to the University of Notre Dame,” said Bonner.

“My uncle (Dany Knott) played running back there a while back and my godfather’s grandson was Sergio Brown, so I've heard about all the benefits and I know how a diploma from there will benefit me later in life.

“They have a great program right now and they always have. I love the education aspect of things, the great facilities and the fact they have a great football team. Notre Dame’s been around a long time and I’ve dreamt of going there for quite a while.”

The 6-foot-3, 250-pound defender is certainly happy with the decision he's made, but readily admits the whole thing’s been kind of a blur.

“Notre Dame wasn’t really recruiting me until after their camp this past weekend,” he shared. “I went there and showed them what I could do and it seems they were impressed. They came through with an offer very quickly.”

Bonner, who had over 15 offers from around the nation, chose the Irish over programs like Illinois, Indiana, Michigan State, Missouri and Purdue. As a junior, he recorded 64 tackles and 12 sacks. He was an All-State selection by both coaches and media members.

With the Missouri native now in the fold, the Irish coaches already have their sights set on where they see the young man fitting in the scheme of things.

“The coaches say that I'll be playing the CAT outside linebacker position,” claimed Bonner. “I believe I'll feel comfortable there. I'm quick off the edge and I have a strong pass rush. I'm really good at using my hands and I'm great at setting the edge on run plays.”

Now that he's given his pledge to the Irish, Bonner's recruitment is over and he's finished taking visits to any other schools.

“I'm totally done with recruiting and I'm strongly committed to Notre Dame. I plan on going back to South Bend again sometime in July and I can't wait.”

Bonner is the 13th member of the Irish 2014 class and the second linebacker pledge, joining Greer Martini, who offered his commitment to the Irish almost a year ago.

What's funny here is this kid is rated higher than Martini or Trum. on rivals but people (on multiple sites not just IE) seem pretty reserved or even disappointed... me happy.
