Columnist must not have eyes. Or is a UM/ Denard fan...16. QB Tommy Rees: Returning starter last season, still fighting off competition for the job, but he is a tough competitor and fun to watch.
7. Bronko Nagurski Candidates: DE Karpon Lewis-Moore and LB Manti Te'o are on the watch list.
6. Outland Trophy Candidates: Center Braxton Cave and Tackle Zack Martin are on the watch list for 2012.
5. Mackey Award Candidates: TE Tyler Eifert is on the watch list for 2012.
4. Maxwell Award Candidates: RB Cierre Wood and TE Tyler Eifert are both on the watch list.
Thanks for the article Bob. This reminded me of a great ND tradition that I just heard about last year through a friend. I have been to at least one ND home game every year since 1990, but I never knew this tradition existed until last year. I also had the pleasure of witnessing it in person last year too. I will tell you that if you do witness it in person and the hair on your body does not stand on end, you must be dead! Here it is, "Trumpets Under The Dome":
<object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/oBedPq96kr8?version=3&feature=player_detailpage"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/oBedPq96kr8?version=3&feature=player_detailpage" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="360"></object>
You aren't alone, a lot of people don't know about this because of the timing of it. It is right after the band plays on the steps and before they march to the stadium. Most people go line up along the sidewalks to watch them march by and do not realize that the trumpeters go into the Main Building before marching to do this. One of my favorite gameday traditions though.
...just WOW...I don't need to go to get the hair up on end...But I will...thanks
So ****in pumped!
To be honest I really don't know why I still love this school and football team, I just can't quit her! It's really kind of strange to me how I can be so passionate about a football team for a school that I've never even been to. I guess I'll go with the mystique that draws me to it. Either way you look at it there is something that draws me in to feel as good as I do when they win and how gut wrenching it is in defeat.
My love for ND is by far the most irrational thing I have going in life... not even close... like you, a big win (Sun Bowl or beating SC two years ago) can make my whole damn month... a big loss (like any of these freakin Michigan loses) can make me not want to leave the house for a good week, even if they win the next game.
no persepctive at all...
Yeah it controls way too much of my life, but I'm ok with it because it will make it that much sweeter when they win another title. It's amazing to me the highs and lows of it all. To compare it to being a fan of anything else holds no relevance. To put it in perspective, I'd consider myself a huge Patriots fan and the Super Bowl loss was nothing compared to the Michigan loss or hell even the bowl loss. I can't explain my unhealthy obsession with ND football but I think that's really what I love about it!
As I type, I am anticipating the opening of the UND box office so I can purchase tickets for the ND Purdue game. Five of my buddies from all over the US have acknowledged my love for ND and will join me for the game.
