No we are the ones who have 3 5 Star recruits transfer in 1 calendar year. 3 studs and two others who are high rated 4 star recruits in 1 year is very concerning. We can spin it how we want, but it isn't good.

This transfer hurts Pitt a lot more than any transfer hurt ND. He would have been the starter as a true sophomore. Plus it's not like he was home sick or had Aaron Lynch or Davonte Neal type situation, he's from Pittsburgh. This would be like if (knock on wood) Jaylon Smith transferred after this year.

This. Pitt will be breaking in a new QB this year, so they would have been leaning on Shell even more than usual (which is saying something, since Chryst loves to run the ball). They arguably just lost the most important player on their team.

None of our transfers were nearly as devastating.

Yeah. If that report DublinIrish posted is to be believed, this is a coach/player clash involving a five-star, hometown talent at a huge position of need for Pitt.
Perception-wise, which is all that matters in recruiting, this is way worse for them than Kiel leaving because Golson's better or Lynch or Neal leaving over back-home relationships was for us.

Read something yesterday (apologies cant remember the source) that said Shell was chewed out in front of the team by a coach after his performance in a scrimmage and that was what tipped him over the edge.

Any truth to the rumor that Mike Rice had recently been hired by Pitt to oversee some practices?

LOL that is a HUGE d*ck move. Pitt doesn't have Arizona State on any future schedules, right?

you can understand their frustrations but this is just petty, its not like ASU is on their schedule or in conference.

The way Graham did them dirty, I am not surprised. It's petty, but that's what he and Shell get. You burn people, they will burn you given the chance. Not saying it's right, but doesn't surprise me at all.

could be from pressure coming from the university as payback...didn't think of it like that

im sure Chryst will earn some kudo's from the fanbase for sticking it to Graham like this but Shell could end up going JC and then back in the ACC doing damage to Pitt. Better off to let him to go ASU and wash your hands of it

Rumors out there that he wants to come back to Pitt apparently....

UCLA steals our commits
They steal our rivals' players
Our pets heads are falling off!

If true, I hope this is over another classic Jim Mora Jr. lie!

The saga that led to former Pitt running back and Hopewell native Rushel Shell transferring from his hometown Pitt Panthers to UCLA was a bit bizarre to say the least.

However if the situation was bizarre before, it just got a little more crazy.

According to a couple of reports, Shell is interested in returning to Pitt. That’s not a typo. Apparently the WPIAL’s all-time leading rusher, the guy who was supposed to be the Panthers featured back for the next two or three years has expressed his intentions about returning.

However don’t get too excited. A lot would have to happen for Shell to return.

First off, UCLA would have to let him out of his commitment to them and allow him to return to Pittsburgh. We saw the same thing happen with the Panthers had to let Shell out of his scholarship and ultimately blocked him from going to Arizona State. Being that the Panthers are in the ACC and far from the Pac-12 Conference, that shouldn’t be much of an issue.

The more pressing issue is whether or not Pitt head coach Paul Chryst would even welcome Shell back?

That’s not a given considering Shell not only turned his back on the Pitt program and high tailed it out of town, but also criticized the Panthers coaching staff before he was granted his release.

Who knows right now how the Shell situation will ultimately play out, but it is bizarre to say the least.

I will have more on the Shell story as more details become available.

Is Rushel Shell interested in returning to Pitt? | Pittsburgh Sporting News

It's weird, but I am not sure of Mora's involvement here. He was really set on going to ASU but that was blocked. My guess is that he felt like he had to leave after asking to be released and chose UCLA (how I am not sure). Now he realizes he would rather be at Pitt. Not surprising to me, the culture shock for a Pittsburgh kid out in LA is dramatic. Shell has 2 kids so it may be tough for him to leave them behind.

Good Lord...he's on his way to making his own football team...I don't even think Antonio Cromartie had that many at his age

It will be interesting to see if this kid is willing to put in the work, wherever he lands to become a top college running back.
