Per ISD's Power Hour, Sims is coming this weekend with one of his HS coaches and will stay all next week because his coach is working the HS camp that starts on Monday.

Awesome, kinda disappointing that I believe Mixon's coach is coming and he is not. Wonder what other coaches are coming, John Curtis coach maybe? that'd be awesome

Hah, I've got family a couple of blocks from JT Curtis (the coach/headmaster; he lives about 4 blocks from John Curtis). I've already got them sporting Irish flags for every time Dupre and Young pass by on their way home. I'll see if I can convince them to go knock on his door and convince him to attend.

There for a week? He ought to just enroll.

Bama leads as T Town said, followed by UGA apparently. He'll leave the state, but will he leave the South? We shall see.

Per II visit is going well early, long way to go on the visit and for Sims services though

I think Bama still leads but one thing ND can offer is playing time quickly. That is the only way I think the Irish can be a player with Sims. I would show him the Bama depth chart at receiver and ask him where he fits in. Right now he would be about 6-7 on that list. Getting him to SB is a good start.

Mom of ESPN150 WR Cameron Sims says LSU, Oklahoma State & UGA are no longer under consideration, but Southern U is in top 5.

Per his coach, grandmother of ESPN150 WR Cameron Sims had 8 kids, all attended Southern U in Baton Rouge.

The guy works for ESPN so he's legit.

I wonder if we've ever had a recruiting battle with a FCS school... Maybe under Ty? LOL

This would be pretty shocking if LSU were out. Of all the LA kids in this cycle I have the best feeling about Cameron for some reason. Hope we can land him

He doesn't have an offer from LSU. In-state, they're after Dupre, Quinn and Noil. Sims doesn't really fit LSU's offense (assuming Cam Cameron doesn't completely change the scheme).

I need to go back and look at his tape. I've kind of stopped following him, because I think it's highly unlikely he goes anywhere but Bama. I remember thinking he looked like a low-risk, medium-upside guy, though.

Not really, he doesn't have an offer

I'm gonna have to start refreshing threads before I post to see if I'm aping points that were just made. Or learn to type faster.

Okay, I have to hear this. How does he not fit LSU's offense?

He can read and write?

Hah

Okay, I have to hear this. How does he not fit LSU's offense?

During the Miles era, LSU's offense has had two basic strategies: pound the ball with a mix of 2-3 backs while keeping defenses honest with the deep ball. LSU QBs have had big arms but limited touch - Mett, Jamarcus Russell, Jarrett Lee, Jordan Jefferson. They fit LSU's vertical attack, but are pretty awful when asked to manage a drive. Possession wideouts, which LSU thinks Sims projects as, are significantly devalued in their scheme. These are the guys who've excelled under Miles: Odell Beckham, Rueben Randle, Brandon LaFell, Dwayne Bowe, Buster Davis, Early Doucet. Each of them played the vertical WR role at LSU. You can really see the scheme in the numbers from 2005-2008 when Miles had decent QB play. In 2005, for example, none of the top 4 wideouts were possession guys: Dwayne Bowe (who was basically what everyone's hoping Malachi Dupre turns into when he was at LSU), Buster Davis, Early Doucet and Bennie Brazell. The last 3 were all key members of LSU's track team. Skyler Green, who was probably the fastest player on the team, was the closest thing there was to a "possession" guy, coming out of the backfield or playing in the slot. He finished with 268 yards on 32 catches that year.

The Lee/Jefferson years forced Miles to change a bit, simply because they were both pretty terrible. Terrence Toliver (the only possession-type WR who's started at LSU under Miles and the last since Michael Clayton in 2003) actually led the Tigers in receptions one season. Even then, though, every other wideout with significant stats was a vertical type - Randle, Shepard, Beckham, LaFell, Byrd.

In a normal year, LSU jumps all over Sims and hopes he turns into another Toliver. This year, though, with the talent at WR in the state, he's the odd man out. My point was this, though: he's not been offered because he's the poorest scheme fit, not because he's less talented than, say, Trey Quinn.

No offense but to say Sims is a poor scheme fit for LSU is nonsense. He fits any scheme. Read any report on him and it's the same, strong off the line, developing route runner and vertical threat. In college he'll be able to beat you anywhere on the field. 247 raved about his performance at the Georgia camp. 3 of the 4 services have him as a top ten WR in the country. Real reason LSU isn't going as hard at him? They already have 2 commits at WR and likely to add a couple more. Dupre is obvious and of the remaining LA WR's Sims has always been considered the most likely to leave the state. Living in Georgia I can tell you Georgia never goes hard after LA kids unless there is a strong chance the kid wants to leave home. It's also why ND is going after him hard.

That's simply not the description I've heard of him from folks in LSU country. He camped there last year and looked like a 4.7 guy. Very polished, solid hands, but not in Dupre or Noil's class athletically. It's entirely possible LSU's whiffed on their evaluation of him -- I think I've said on this board that I think both Sims and Dupre would be good pickups for ND (Dupre looks more like an LSU lock than he did when I initially posted about him).

Real reason LSU isn't going as hard at him? They already have 2 commits at WR and likely to add a couple more. Dupre is obvious and of the remaining LA WR's Sims has always been considered the most likely to leave the state. The idea that LSU passed on Sims because of out-of-state competition fits neither the timeline nor good sense. Dupre and Quinn picked up offers out of LSU's summer camp in 2012. Noil had one going in. Noil had then and maintains now an interest in fully exploring his options before picking a school. He looks increasingly likely to leave the state. Quinn appeared to be an LSU lock heading in. Dupre had not expressed a strong interest in staying in state, reaffirmed his openness to leaving the region right after the camp, and came from a school that is well known for placing its recruits out-of-state. Given that, somehow LSU sussed out that Sims - a guy who grew up close to Baton Rouge and played many of his high school games there - wasn't even worth offering because he was the most likely to look elsewhere? I'm sorry, that doesn't wash. Nor does the idea that they de-prioritized him on the basis of outside competition fit with their recruiting strategy at any other position this cycle.

You're welcome to disagree. I'm not an insider, and everyone I talk shop with is at least a step removed from anything resembling a "source" (father's brother's cousin's nephew's former roommate, and all that rot).

Sims keeps things close to the vest but II spoke with his coach that was on the trip and he really enjoyed the academic side of ND and that was the focus of the trip. ND is recruiting him to be the next Michael Floyd.

His coach also had good things to say to ISD and added that they will be at the ND-ASU game in Dallas.

By all accounts Sims is a ND type kid and the staff is optimistic about them being right their in the mix for him.

Seems like a grounded kid from things things about him and would be a huge addition to the WR corps.

Bummed to hear he preferred his UW visit to ND. Interesting he came out and said he wasn't feeling UGA

Bummed to hear that he is just (what seems to me) looking for a pathway to the NFL. That's what I heard at the end anyway.

I think ACamp posted in Lorenzo Carter's thread that if the recruit is articulate in their interview then I usually think "ND has a good shot" and when they sound like they're struggling to speak English then I usually think "No Chance".

Yeah it might be pretentious as hell but I'd put this kid more in the "No Chance" side and his NFL comments at the end of the video seem to agree with that.

Yes I am aware he has a visit "set" for the ND v ASU game. We'll see if that happens.
