Niklas was also projected to be a ot. A rare individual. At this point you take great talent. If we ever get to the 85 scholarships then we can taper back. Versatile guys that can play multiple positions, special teams and are smart....sign them all!

Exactly.

Why wouldn't you count Niklas? He was recruited as a Big Skill ATH to play OLB or TE...he ended up at TE. Not sure why you wouldn't include him.

And it's possible that ND lands 3 TEs this year and has to move them around. Weishar, Luatua, and Mark Andrews are possibilities in this class alone. And because the staff can move them around, I can see them taking all three. Weisher at TE, Andrews at WR/TE, and Luatua at TE/OLB. What a great "problem" to have at ND.

For the same reason I wouldn't count Jacob Matuska, though he played tight end in high school and would have preferred to in college. The big talk with Troy was D-line, then OT. Everyone marveled when he got it at OLB and started against MSU. Though his game wasn't perfect it was competent in a white-wash of the Spartans. Then when it looked like he had found his spot, they moved him to tight end the next season.

I guess my original point was about recruiting tight ends specifically versus big skill guys that played tight end. That's all!

And I certainly am all for recruiting big skill guys, and I agree with your points!

The recent commit of Viane Talamaivao could help swing things in Bama's way per 247

this is the guy that I am just very curious about.

IF he were to sign with ND I really wonder where exactly his ceiling is. personally I think it's at TE even though he is being recruited as big skill

kind of a troy niklas situation. yes he is very good at TE and may end up playing on Sundays, but part of me always wonders how could he could have been on defense. obviously the trick is getting these guys signed on the dotted line and then figuring out later.

Named Alabama his favorite at The Rivals100 5:s: Challenge.

Sounds like a two horse race with a OV to ND for the USC game and a OV to Bama for the LSU game and then a decision will be made.

Isn't that contradictory of pretty much everything we've heard so far?

Adam Gorney spoke with a good source that says ND is the team to beat for Luatua

With OJ Howard at Bama I can't see Luatua committing to the Tide. I think the Irish gets him in the end.

He was speaking to a Bama reporter but he brought it up, the guy was kinda suprised by it because he didn't even ask him a question that needed that response.

Luatua, according to himself, says that Alabama is the team to beat. I think he is the best source.

So what's the takeaway? It seems to me that Gorney's source is likely wrong. Hopefully I'm missing something ?

I think it's safe to say its neck and neck and visits will tell all.

Really no point in dissecting who's source is better than anothers. Time will tell with this one. Long way to go.
