Interesting quote. Some negative recruiting going on, the media hype leading to a preconceived notion, or simply BK being a great man who outdoes the expected?

Congratulations to the Kizer famly, and to the Fighting Irish, huge accomplishment and huge get for us. What I have heard of this young man he reminds me a lot of Malik, very mature, natural leader, knows what he wants out of life, in short everything you need to be a successful student athlete, everything you need out of your quarterback.

Four-star quarterback DeShone Kizer led the Toledo Central Catholic Fighting Irish to the Ohio Division II state championship back in December.

After committing to Notre Dame on Tuesday, he’ll have the chance to lead a different group of Fighting Irish to a title on a much bigger stage.

“I am privileged to say that I will be continuing my Fighting Irish tradition by playing football at the University of Notre Dame,” Kizer posted on Twitter.

Kizer just recently landed an offer from Notre Dame and visited South Bend with his family on Sunday.

That visit went well and Kizer opted to shut down the recruiting process with his commitment to head coach Brian Kelly and the Fighting Irish. He had planned to visit LSU later this week after already purchasing airfare to Baton Rouge.

As a junior, Kizer completed 109-of-178 passes (61-percent) for 1,611 yards with 17 touchdowns to just two interceptions. He also rushed for 402 yards on 65 carries.?

Toledo Central Catholic finished the year 14-1 with a 16-12 win over Trotwood-Madison in the state championship game. The Fighting Irish averaged 271.8 yards rushing per game and 113 through the air.

In his sophomore season, his first as a starter, Kizer threw for 1,147 yards and 10 touchdowns and rushed for 540.

Rivals.com ranks Kizer as the No. 8 dual-threat quarterback in the country.

Through his performance at the Columbus Elite 11 Regional Camp, Kizer earned an invitation to compete in the Elite 11 Finals this summer in California.

Nice article on DeShone and his commit to ND:

Central Catholic quarterback DeShone Kizer commits to Notre Dame - Toledo Blade

“After a long process and a lot of talking, I’ve made my decision,” Kizer said Tuesday afternoon. “I’m going to Notre Dame. After going through the campus with my family, we truly fell in love with the school and everything it possesses.

“The academics, the location, and the football tradition all exceeded the criteria our family had put together since the beginning of the recruiting process.”

“I was thinking of going to LSU this Friday,” Kizer said, “but after going to Notre Dame we figured that a trip to LSU would be nothing but pointless time, because we all looked at each other after that visit and said that there’s no better place in the nation that we could possibly be.

Haha. So weird.

Btw, Central Catholic is the Fighting Irish, right? But Buckeye colors. I now recall that a friend from Toledo jokingly sent me a shirt from there (red with a huge silver shamrock on the front, with the words "Central Catholic Fighting Irish) so that when I visit my wife's fam in Ohio I can be a guerrilla Irish fan. Lol.

The headline I read said "Kizer cancels trip to kick strangers head outside strip clubs in Baton Rogue." I took that to mean his visit to LSU was off.

Nice pick-up Coach Kelly! This kid has serious upside.

Also, we finally have a QB who can see over our massive OL!

I know! I have to admit that I really love this. I'm a Ravens fan, and there is something to be said for a guy who is just the right size for the game.

Obviously there is a place for super-mobile QBs as well in the collge game.

Its the not-so-tall, not-so-fast QBs that ND has no business recruiting anymore.

I try to not to spend too much time on guys that aren't committed, so I haven't seen his film yet. In going to be at work pretty late tonight, can anyone give me a rundown of his film?

I couldn't find any Junior film. Was that the issue with Alabama?

Based on what I saw, he is not a Golson like phenom, but he is smart, sound, and fast with a decent arm. However, unlike Rees, imagining that his arm is going to improve considerably is not a stretch. He is not a fully-grown 21 yo packing on an extra 5 lbs of muscle, he is 6'5" 17 yo that simply hasn't grown into his body fully yet.

As far as where I think he compares to our other QB recruits during their Junior years of HS, I think the kid has as musch up-side as any of them. He is not the raw talent that Clausen or Golson were, but he is tall, smart, andseems to have that natural athleticism/swagger of the better players. I expect him to be very good.

Kizer didn't have a issue with Alabama, he just never had a committable offer because that's how Bama does it. A couple QBs find out on 6/15 if their offer is committable or not, including Jacob Park definitely and I believe David Cornwell also
