So, how do you all think EV and his family will approach their announcement. Mud slinging and accusations? I'm thinking so.

They will bring up the fact that ND blew the surprise of EV committing in the media guide. Cuz obviously that's a reason to be released from your LOI.

I can see ground then for releasing him from his LOI...:pepper:

If I were ND and Vanderdoes really just had a change of heart, as I'll bet he did (if it were really a more important and serious reason, I agree with others here: he would've come out with it already), then I would not let him out of his LOI. He made a signed commitment to Notre Dame, and asking them to rip that up because he's getting cold feet is absurd. If he really doesn't want to play for ND, that's fine, but he should have to sit on the sidelines and watch while all of the guys who actually honored their commitments do what they agreed to do.

I will, at a later date, set up a time, by which I will make clear when I intend to schedule a conference, in order to let it be known when I will reveal to the world my intentions to set a date for my official press statement....

Hold on I'm slightly confused?? Will there be some sort of announcement on when this time will be set up for the conference?

I agree, HOWEVER, whatever reason that comes out, I'm going to be inclined to call bullsh!t.

Think about it...if a family member is sick, you come out and say it right away and everyone is sympathetic. We've all had sick family members, so that tugs on all our hearts (well, most of us, cough, irishpat, cough. Just kidding! kind of). If he had said so when he first heard about it and was having 2nd thoughts, the backlash would have been FAR less. There would have been immediate pressure for ND to let him out of his contract. ND recently let Alex Bullard transfer with no restrictions to be close to his family in Tennessee, so there is precedent.

Instead, because they have waited so long, it makes them look (at least to me), as if they are grasping for straws. Remember, this has been out there for almost 2 months; they are just acting as if it just started. It just smells way too fishy at this point for me to buy pretty much anything they are selling.

Sorry EV, like Jughead said...take your medicine. It's completely fair.

(BTW...you buy a me a beer at a tailgate and I'll tell you a pretty crazy story about a parent of a ND player basically begging media members to write a positive (false) story about their son who was leaving Notre Dame. No PM's LOL.)

Based on your logic, that means ND may still have a chance to keep him on. Because they've waited this long, it seems like there may be conflict between the family as to whether he should go to ND, or back out.

Good way of looking at recruiting in general:

Tom Luginbill ‏@TomLuginbill 35m

An early verbal commitment is like having a 500lb marlin on the line, but he's 500 yds away and there are 30 sharks chewing at your line.

Are there attorneys involved in this situation?

If there is inappropriate behavior on the part of anyone, (I am thinking a UCLA connection) then that would be a pretty damn good reason to back off making a statement, other than a statement about making a statement. I am of course just spit-balling here; but if there were inappropriate contact and collusion, with things hitting the light of day like they did, and will, anyone with good advice will just clam up.

The one thing everyone can agree upon, if there was any doubt before his last couple of tweets were tweeted, this news reporter guy is a douche-nozzle. Seems there are no protests arising from this conclusion of mine; the guy was just hanging on for a ratings boost, and he should think about the consequences of his words before he utters them!

We never know the 'true' story in a situation. Even when we hear all the gossip, we still don't have it all. There has been more that one player that has left lately that has had a parental urge for a good press image, not just Al.

A perfect example of what I am talking about was a recruit who bolted last minute in the last three years, that it looked like a flaky last minute decision, but it wasn't. His class had grown cool on him and this guy had major conflicts with one member of the coaching staff. So there is an example of something that was brewing for months, which looked spontaneous and last minute. I have never heard anyone state that true story either.

Edit: Part II; so most of what happens we never hear the true story about. We make a lot of guesses based upon our experiences. Sometimes our experiences fall short.
