Post by Wiltfong seems to indicate Peppers having legit interest in Penn State. Not sure I buy it at all. Seems like a big smoke screen to make things "interesting" now that he likely isn't visiting Stanford.

I'd love it if it happened. For the lulz and the Michigan tears. I wonder how often Tom would keep us updated on the track numbers of a Penn State commit?

Set announcement date. All Michigan.
The No. 1 defensive back will make his decision live on ESPNU on May 26. With almost every program in the country targeting the talented prospect, Peppers has narrowed his list down to LSU, Notre Dame, Michigan, Penn State, Rutgers and Stanford.

He still plans on taking his visit to Penn State on May 18, and has already been out to Michigan, LSU and Ohio State. There might still be a surprise visit in store before the announcement as well. The five-star prospect has turned heads with his play on the field and will undoubtedly be a game changer for whichever school he picks.

Honestly I have moved on from his recruitment as a lost cause. He has had chances to get to campus but decided to go elsewhere. I will only be shocked if he does not pick Michigan.

Doesn't matter to me, we will never play against him. Good luck at Michigan.

“@PCFB_LIVE: @JabrillPeppers will be deciding on ESPNU on May 26th. He is taking 2 more visits. No more information will be available until after May 26”

Bet the second visit is just another to Michigan.

Rutgers could be one of them, with PSU being the other one.

I can tell you one of them won't be ND, so don't get your hopes up.

pure guess is that Rutgers is the surprise visit.

I have a hard time seeing him picking PSU with the sanctions. They have to be at 65 players on scholarship in 2014, which means they won't have much depth and probably won't be very good. They also can't play in any post-season games until 2016, which means Peppers would be a junior by the time he got to play in a bowl game or conference championship.

I would be absolutely stunned if he doesn't pick Michigan, but stranger things have happened in recruiting.

This is bad news. Not that he's going to scUM - as all indications would seem. Rather, him verbaling so damn early can give them serious recruiting momentum - think Jaylon for us last year. I wish this kid would take it to the wire...

I'm starting to get a really bad vibe from this kid. Not making absolutes, but anyone who wouldn't give ND a chance, considering all that he had leading him towards them (Former teammate on ND, plays for a catholic school) is not the right kind of guy.

hmmmm. i see nothing wrong with him choosing a school other than ND...Thousands of kids do each year. No reason to make a post like that

It's not that he chose a school other than ND, but he never gave them a chance. He never even made a visit, despite him showing legitimate interest. It just seems like he left ND out in the cold.

This is some 11W-sounding stuff right here.

Are you sure ND showed interest in him?

the uneeded butthurt over Peppers is amazing, I personally dont get it

I have to agree. I cannot remember the last time there was any positive news for us regarding him. Could just be the total man crush coming through after wanting him for so long that the rejection stings a good bit.

probably mostly due to the fact that he's very likely headed to Michigan.

I think had signs been pointing to PSU, Florid, Bama, or Stanford people here wouldn't care as much.

I'd give much more of a **** if he was going to Stanford. I give zero shits about anyone going to Michigan unless ND was the close #2.

Well my thought process was that Michigan is much more hated by the ND fanbase than Stanford. Am I correct in making that assumption? I'd say many ND fans hate Michigan almost as much as they do USC. Some probably even hate Michigan more than they hate USC.

Ppl were butthurt when OSU and Stanford led. For some reason alot of ppl think just because he went to Don Bosco for two years, ND should have been a major player here. As I said, I don't get it, ND doesn't even have a Don Bosco pipeline.

You would be correct in saying that we hate the UM fanbase, but Stanford represents a different kind of threat to us than a Michigan that is locked into the B1G at the moment.

I'm not sold on Michigan's current upswing, but even if they truly are back to not being OSU's punching bag, I don't think they would be a problem for ND in the future more than any other successful blue-blood program. So I hope Michigan sucks, but not for any pro-ND reason. Just good old fashioned dislike.

On the other hand, I would really like for Stanford to start sucking again. Hopefully Shaw is still just following the Harbaugh formula and his recruiting will continue to slow down. In a perfect world, Stanford decreases back to the margin, Oregon is lost without Kelly, and USC keeps doing what they're doing. Then it would be UCLA vs Notre Dame for California, which is as favorable of a recruiting matchup as we would ever get.

Was that needed? This is why you had so many red dots under your name up until recently.

The guy had a take, just debate it if you don't agree, like many others did. No need to be a douche about it.

I think Michigan fans grossly overstate Michigan's important when it comes to ND. USC is the clear cut #1 rival, Michigan is in an amorphous blob with about 4-5 other schools for the #2 spot.

As for "hate"... I think it's quite regional. I grew up on the east coast and Michigan fans I ran into tended to be alumni and normal people. I had no inkling that the Michigan "rivalry" even remotely involved "hate"... and when I applied to schools with both parents being ND alumni we looked at Michigan with zero prejudice... the same way I looked at Cornell or Georgia Tech or Northwestern... my parents never once implicitly or explicitly expressed "hate" for Michigan. When my best friend decided he was going to USC on a full ride, my dad said I wasn't allowed to be friends with him anymore.

In the Midwest, there seems to be an awful lot of mouth breathers that are downright obnoxious and I think the "hate" for ND fans living in Michigan and nearby is definitely a lot higher. And I can definitely understand it. Whenever I read mgoblog it's just laughable/infuriating how uneducated and annoying a large chunk of posters are towards everything ND. Stuff like "they play a schedule full of cupcakes" and the like would drive me crazy if I had to listen to that ignorance daily.

And once I learned the history of ND-Michigan... you know, Michigan chickening out of games when we beat them, having a racist anti-Catholic coach as one of their "legends," blocking ND from the Big Ten and trying to get other schools to not schedule ND, etc.... I do understand the "hate" quite a bit more. And with Brady Hoke running his mouth like he has an IQ of 8 I'm slowly but surely moving more and more each day from ambivalence to strong dislike. There was a time not too long ago when I would root for Michigan to beat Ohio State in football because OSU is our "rival" for lacrosse dating back to the GWLL and I wanted to see them fail at everything... that's not the case anymore.

But do I, or anyone else, care if Michigan gets a good player now that we'd only see the prospect once as a true frosh? No, not really. Not unless it's a direct steal from ND.

I wanna agree with you, but I just can't. Who would the other 3-4 schools be IYO? I'm thinking scUM is clear #2, but that it could fade over the next few years once we stop playing them on the reg.

Yeah. I don't know about amorphous blob of four or five. For the last 25 years at least, ND-Michigan has always been a Big Game. Two of the biggest franchises in the sport, a couple of hours away, both teams usually ranked. Rocket Ismail. Desmond Howard. Knocking them off in '98. The last few crazy games. All that.
I like playing other elite programs like Oklahoma or FSU. I respect our rivalries with Stanford and Michigan State. I get that playing us is kind of a big deal for Navy and BC and Purdue. But aside from USC I don't know who would be bigger game on our schedule every year than Michigan. I'll miss them.

And I really don't care where Jabrill Peppers goes to college if it's not Notre Dame. I will, though, say we've had lousy luck with Bosco kids since Elijah Shumate signed up. 0 for 3 now, right? (that CB with the Twitter, Muhammed last year and Peppers). Andapparently all, at least in part, because we ultimately decided they weren't for us. Which is odd because Bosco would seem like our kind of school.
