This is just one of those things you can't say anything about. Some of you have said that, are taking this well. You are okay and you know who you are. But if I hear one more pantywaist whimper about how our ability to win will be jeopardized by losing one player . . . I am excited to think about Tuitt and KLM as starters! With all the up comers, and all the great linebackers developing on the outside! Tits and hand grenades, it will be a party. We will eat the heart out of opposing offenses!

College is not that difficult. People leave home to go to school all the time. It's four years. I can't believe what babies some big-time recruits end up being.

And this is exactly why we will probably never be a top 10 team again.

Dude, we were a top 5 team just a few years ago, with one of the worst head coaches we've ever seen at ND, a coach that lost to teams like 2-10 Syracuse and Navy among many others.

Damn, talk about a "Hold me, I'm Irish" over-reaction post...

Mgriff, do you live in South Bend? I work here so basically I live here...lol, and the people are RUTHLESS. They hate ND. They trash them every chance they get, and treat them like crap, then you get on here and listen to more "I hate being a ND fan, we suck for 20 yrs", I know you weren't being hateful in your response, and I'm not trying to either, but if the athletes were treated better by their community and the "fans" they might stop leaving.

That's fine, but it's completely different from what you said; That everything will be okay because we are ND. That's a great attitude to have, but it doesn't help when trying to identify and solve problems within the program. And after the recent recruiting mishaps and transfers, coupled with two mediocre seasons, I think there may be a problem. We'll see how much quality the product on the field has this year, and go from there. Everyone here wants ND to win, but we all won't share the same optimism or pessimism. I try to stay in the middle, but I firmly believe there may be some issues at the program.

Wow... tough loss. Don't have the time at work to read this entire thread. Can someone give me sparknotes? When, why, where to, player reaction, Kelly reaction, etc.?

Hard to decide if this is a bigger loss on or off the field for ND. D-line will still be great, but it's not good for our program to have so many brutal decommitts and transfers. Not good PR for the elite guys we are trying to attract.

Family and girlfriends are off limits. You guys want to be bitter? Fine. Don't do it in a way that embarrasses this site.

Amen, brother.

I, for one, will missthe "what could have been" of him and tuitt for three years at least growing to dominate with the rest of the studs that are populating (or on their way to populating) our defense.

Aaron & Mama Lynch,
1) as fans we are hurt and upset, so please understand and forgive some of the more over the top comments
2) I hope you finally find some peace wherever you end up
3) I hope you don't end up regretting this decision in your future

C'mon, when does this become a problem? I'm not a doomsayer and I generally try and preach objectivity, but something is amiss. I'd like to think that the team can get through this, but at what point do our elite players transferring at positions of need, most notably at CB and DE this offseason, become detrimental and a reflection on poor...something at the University or in the coaching staff? I grant ND isn't for everyone, but the coaching staff is supposed to get kids to stay; it's their job. I mean talk about a blow to the motivation or excitement for the season. Two mediocre seasons where we all say that signs are pointing up, but we've done that for the last twenty years with better records and offseason recruiting classes, and nothing changed. Ten wins this year or I'm on the Kelly Out! bandwagon. It's Kelly's ship and if he thinks this is best, that's fine, but he's had his three years in charge, and I want results.

I think the problem started when Lynch was being recruited. Remember he commited, decommited then recommited after BK twisted his arm. Here's my point.

IMO BK probably saw the risk of this kid and was afraid to ask the tough closing questions. Rather than face the obvious telltale signs, he ignored them and kept pushing to get him to recommit knowing he wasn't a true ND recruit. He probably hoped once on campus he would stay.

All signs say USF.

Why is Kelly not putting restrictions on where he could go? If he told him no Florida schools, no opponents the next 4 years, and no Ohio $state, and no SEC teams, and maybe crybaby Lynch would think twice about this...

Lynch wants to play games...well, we shouldn't let him. Let him rot in somewhere far from Florida...

If Kelly restricts Lynch's transfer choices...maybe the next guy who is thinking of bailing will think twice.

PS Hoping Lynch doesn't make it to the NFL...we will see then how much his degree from ND would have helped him.

F Lynch. That is all.

So we lose Lynch. I do agree that this one hurts because of the level of talent, but his heart wasn't in it and it sounds like he had quite a negative attitude.

Now, instead of ripping on Kelly and ND for losing Lynch and 3 big recruits (who lets face it, are all still in highschool and havent played a down of college fb) let's take a look at the flip side.

He lost those guys, but he SAVED arguably the BEST tight end in the nation in Tyler Eifert from leaving the program and going pro. The BEST middle linebacker in the nation in Manti Te'o. Last year, the BEST wide receiver in the nation in Michael Floyd. Apparently Ishaq was on the edge and came back to ND.

ND gained Jordan Prestwood and Amir Carlisle as major transfers. How often does ND get solid transfers like these guys?

So for all the negative surrounding Lynch quitting on his team, you can't overlook all the positive things that have happened around here under coach Kelly and the ND staff. Sh!t happens.

Friend of mine is a freshman at ND. Buddy of his around the dorms is a manager on the team and he said you could tell Lynch hated the place, he constantly complained about the weather and being away from home. A lot of people aren't surprised at all. after last weeks fiasco i knew something was gonna happen, just wasn't sure what

I think Aaron has done enough on his own to limit his landing places. Sounds like So Florida is the favorite. Florida State hung up on him and I doubt Florida would take a flier on him. Maybe Miami, but would he want to play there? Doubt it with sanctions looming. Everywhere else is too far away from home.

"I'd rather be in a different environment as in weather and stuff, but I've got no choice," he said during the March 23 interview. "I'm here, so I've got to stay here." -- Quote from Lynch

You didn't want to be in an environment where you could compete on the biggest stage in college football? You didnt want to be in an environment that challenged you mentally and physically on the field and off? You didnt want to be on one of the most beautiful campuses in the world? You didnt want to play for the flagship team at one of the greatest schools ever?

Kids are soft these days. Even a 6'6" self proclaimed man beast. Adios little boy

Prestwood is a point, but Amir's family moved out there, hence his enrollment at ND.

...

"Hence his enrollment at ND."

The family didn't move to South Bend, they moved to Indianapolis. Indiana, Purdue, Cincinnati, Louisville, Illinois, OSU, and Northwestern all have quicker travel times than ND does. Kentucky is almost the same as ND. Add an hour or 90 minutes and Michigan St, Michigan, and Vandy are possible choices. Take it to 6 hours and you add Wisconsin, Iowa, Missouri, Tennessee, and bunch of others.

He had his choice fo schools and choose ND which isn't surprising as Amir's Top 2 were USC and ND.

He's at ND because he wants to be and because he has the academic ability to be here. He tasted Southern Cal academics and could have easily opted for OSU or anywhere else besides NW and cruised through classes. He chose the tougher road.

Your "Hence his enrollment at ND" is a misrepresentation. IF Carson Palmer's father, David Terrell's father, Ron Dayne's father, Randy Moss's father, or Walter Payton moved to South Bend their sons were NOT going to be students at ND. They weren't prepared for it. Palmer, Terrell, Dayne, and Payton COULD have but all refused take necessary classes or retake a test to improve a score. Many elites can't get into ND. Many others don't want to do the work.

I saw this earlier and it doesn't mean anything if by the remote chance it actually did happen. Coaches at one school cannot be in contact with a kid at another school. It's called tampering. If he called to talk to another team they have no choice but to hang up.
