Sampson just posted that he thinks the staff likes Bars more than Jamarco Jones.

I'm terrible at evals, but I thought Bars had better tape than any OL I've watched outside of Braden Smith. This includes Nelson, Jones, Byrne, and Mustipher.

if Bars goes elsewhere, would Jones pop to ND?

I don't see Jones at ND at any point personally, which is cool with me. I love Bars, and if we can snag him then just focus on Braden Smith elite type late in the cycle that is a perfect haul IMO.

Yep. I'd be delighted with that.

Granted no longer on our board but KC McDermott's tape was better than all the other's IMO.

Per Wiltfong should be a photo finish between UM and ND. Parents may even be split between them. Stanford is trying to get him to visit before he commits.

We need the fourth stud; this young man fits that description. Then we can wait out the possibility of one more elite --- if that happens, perfect. If that does not happens, still good. Kelly and Hiestand have us in a very good place. Now we need the Big DT and the linebackers.

On the ND radio, they said if ND gets Bars, Nelson, Byrne, Mustipher, and Smith, they'd still accept Damien Mama (spelling?) at the end, that's how good they think he is.

So 5 is definatly the right number.

In such a scenario, is there a chance that we move Mustipher to the D-line?

I'm not sure I'd go that far. My understanding is that if we get Bars, we won't accept another OL unless it's Smith or Mama or someone not on the radar who the staff likes as much (doubt there is anyone out there who fits that description). We like Smith and Mama so much that we will take both if both want to come, but I don't think there's anyone else that the staff would take as a 5th OL, at least no one currently on the radar. And anyway, like GITF said, unlikely we'll actually get Mama.

This is my understanding as well. Only a 5 OL if the staff is extremely high on him.

lolwut?

It's probably safe to assume Dad is in our corner. How the f*ck is the wife of an alumnus pushing for Michigan?

Did the wife attend ND? Maybe she wants her boys to attend college and play football together? Who knows, could be a host of reasons. Blake is a RS Freshmen this year for Michigan, assuming Alex came in 2014 and redshirted like almost all OL's do, they'd have 3 years together in college. In 2015 Blake would be a RS Junior and Alex a RS Freshmen. They'd be in college together for 3 years- 2014, 2015, and 2016 and they'd be playing together in the same position group, being coached by the same guy, and spending a lot of time together. I could see how some really tight knight families and brothers who were close would want that, and I could also see how a kid would want to go and do his own thing separate from his brother. Point is, who really knows? We'll find out soon.

The talk about Tennessee with Bars does seem to have faded, and Witflong and other sources are saying it's a ND-Michigan coin flip.

This was definitely my thought.

And it's not just that ... parents fall in love with the schools their older kids attend. We've seen with other recruits what a blinding force on parents having a child at another school can be. Exhibit A has got to be K.C. McDermott's dad saying that Miami and ND are academic equivalents. Then there's Mrs. Nkemdiche, etc. I expect that the situation is that since Mrs. Bars has a kid at Michigan, she thinks it's the best place in the world besides maybe Penn State (where she has another son, correct?) because her middle baby is so happy there, and wouldn't it just be great if her baby baby went there too so he could be just as happy.

And btw, I'm not saying there's really anything wrong with that; my mom would be the same way. She was the same way, when we were picking colleges, lol. I think it's kind of just the way parents are.

Was debating a visit this weekend but can't make it

Staff has toned down the pressure to commit and told him they will save a spot for him till NSD (same strategy w/ Nelson?)

Still wants to decide sooner than later

Slow play? Is the staff content with the OL we have and willing to let things shake out?

No way do I see them slow playing Bars....there is no guarantee that we land Smith, and/or any other of our top OL recruits....

Slow play or strategy? Staff got a commitment out of Nelson with the same sentiment.

This. I think they got the feeling Bars was getting overwhelmed / frustrated with the process, and pumped the brakes to let him breathe a bit while letting him know he was and is a priority. I think recruits are increasingly grateful for when a staff does this, and sometimes it pays immediate dividends (Nelson).

The difference between a good salesman and a great salesman is that the great salesman can typically sense when to press for a commitment or when to back off and give the client time to think. Sometimes a client is not ready to make a choice and pushing for a commitment would only cause resentment and distrust and end up losing the sale.

The same applies to recruiting.

It takes BRASS BALLS.

Totally agree, its such a fine line, these coaches almost need to be pyschologists in a way to read a kid's mindset.

tough place to be in no doubt, but theres tens of thousands other high school juniors that would trade places with this kid in a heartbeat in regards to recruitments.

Sounds like he's getting overwhelmed by the process and the staff doesn't want to make it worse.

FWIW, Wiltfong hasn't heard that Bars is going to slow the process down. Still thinks a decision could come at any time, but it sounds like he hasn't heard anything on Bars since earlier in the week.
