Brian Kelly told Nelson to take all the time he needed, that Notre Dame was willing to wait until signing day for the four-star offensive lineman.
“He said ‘Take all the time you want because we have a spot in February,’ and when I heard that it made me feel much more wanted.’

“But even if he didn’t say that I still would have committed.”

The two ended the call without a commitment. However, a minute later, Nelson called back and told Kelly he thought about it and was ready to join the Irish’s 2014 class.

First and foremost the coaching staff,” said Nelson, reeling off reasons for his verbal pledge. “I’ve gotten to know Coach Kelly a little more from talking to him. I love [offensive line] Coach [Harry] Hiestand’s coaching style and how he coaches, and Coach [Chuck] Martin is a great offensive coordinator. They have the No. 1 business school, love the campus, and it was the best fit for me academically, spiritually and athletically.”

He and fellow four-star commit Sam Mustipher, the No. 11 guard nationally, could end up playing together on the line, which both feel would make for one dominant side of the offensive line.

The two recently worked together at a camp and participated in a two-on-two drill, and Nelson said it was eerie how in sync the two already are.

“We didn’t have to even communicate when the defensive linemen stunted,” Nelson said. “We knew what we were doing. It was magical.”

I also love seeing the trolls backtrack when a player responds to their snarky tweets.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-conversation="none"><p>@<a href="https://twitter.com/bigq56">bigq56</a> wow just pointing out the obvious. But anyway its not like nd will win a championship. But u will have a good education.Congrats</p>— bucknutz 4 life (@BuckeyeCain) <a href="https://twitter.com/BuckeyeCain/status/329795455397539843">May 2, 2013</a></blockquote>

Looking at that guys twitter he is one of the ugliest looking mofos I have ever seen.

He is also realllllllllllllllll mad

(Edited) But on to another point. Does Q remind anybody of a OT that we all might know skill set wise? I haven't been able to pull much film but his reviews are glowing so obviously a huge pickup. Is there any talk yet among current commits about possible EE?

In all honesty if I looked like that for my whole life I would be realllllllllll mad too. But on to another point. Does Q remind anybody of a OT that we all might know skill set wise? I haven't been able to pull much film but his reviews are glowing so obviously a huge pickup. Is there any talk yet among current commits about possible EE?

I liken Q to Zach Martin. Maybe a little short for tackle but skill wise is so good he can play the edge. I haven't read that anywhere so I may be a lot off, people were initially think interior based on size much like you would with Martin but skill set is good enough to play OT.

Can a mod please clean this **** up. No need to make fun of a kid. No need to stoop to that level, lets have a little class

I agree, the kid was wrong for tweeting Nelson like that, but does not mean we should do the same.

I just love this from the ISD article:

In fact, Nelson almost ended the process while he was on campus, “I was really close when I was up there.”

Instead, he decided to go home, let things sink in and see if there was anything he didn’t like about Notre Dame.

“There was absolutely nothing.”

Was rated the #1 Offensive Lineman across the entire Rivals Camp Series:

RIVALS CAMP SERIES TOP OFFENSIVE LINEMEN
1. OL QUENTON NELSON, RED BANK (N.J.) RED BANK CATHOLIC

Nelson was simply dominant at the New Jersey RCS. He cut some of the baby fat from last season and it was easy to see he has spent substantial time in the weight room. Nelson has very quick feet and great lateral quickness for a lineman of his size. The recent Notre Dame commit may have only been beaten once throughout the entire camp.

Sam Mustipher was rated #34, and KC McDermott was #6

Rivals.com Football Recruiting - Best of the best: RCS Awards

BEST BLOCKER

OL Quenton Nelson, Red Bank (N.J.) Red Bank Catholic: Nelson is the top offensive lineman from all the RCS events for good reason. At left tackle, the 6-foot-5, 301-pound Nelson showed the lateral quickness and strength to make sure no defensive lineman at the Newark RCS was able to beat him to the inside or outside. His patience when deciding when to deliver a punch was remarkable.
