That was my assumption as well. Wonder if the staff would take Wieshar, Andrews and Luatua all in the same class? I guess that's the good thing about recruiting flexible Big Skill guys.

If they did, Andrews would be the flex, Weishar would beef up and be in-line and Luatua would play defense.

Without a doubt, yes they would. They all bring something different to the table. Andrews and Luatua are both high on the board and for sure takes.

Not sure it's that simple. They wouldn't all play TE for us if they did.

That's what I was thinking, but who knows if that's what they're each interested in doing.

I think you would see Andrews be a hybrid, tight end slash receiver, and Tyler would be on the defensive side of the ball which is where I here ND prefers him. Regardless, if all 3 wanted to commit, ND would take all 3 of them and sort it out when they are all enrolled on campus, which would be a great problem to have :)

Did you see his film? He's not very thick but he runs well. He'd be the 'smallest' of the 3 I think.

Apparently, his hs coach says he's between 225-230 right now. A year or two with Longo, he'll be at 250.

How is that any different from Flex TE? We've already got one in Weishar. Maybe we'd take a 2nd in this class, but I doubt that's Plan A.

247 also gave him a 9 for "Frame", so I don't think he'll have any trouble bulking up. But they also gave him a 5 for "Point of Attack", and in-line blocking definitely isn't his cup of tea right now. I wouldn't bank on being able to turn him into a monster blocker.

Yeah, that's how I see it too, but Wiltfong says that Weishar and Andrews have "different skillsets." He didn't elaborate. I'm curious what he's hearing, as they seem like pretty similar players to me. But if they have different skillsets from each other then I guess we could take both of them as well as Luatua, who is more physical than either Weishar or Andrews.

I've been following his recruitment for a while now, and I remember him saying he wants to be considered as a WR, and not a TE.

Would love to hear his thoughts on that. I don't see it.

I'm not opposed to bringing in Andrews as well. I think it just depends on how much the staff wants to blur the line between WR and TE. Put another way, do they want to go all in on the huge hybrid receiver project?

I've been following his recruitment for a while now, and I remember him saying he wants to be considered as a WR, and not a TE.

See the post at the top of this page. He's a Flex TE, whether he knows it yet or not. Though the distinction between Flex TE and WR gets harder to make every day.

Rob Cassidy's update on Rivals is pro ND as well. Rob points out that Andrews says not one of the three trips stand out but he only mentions ND specifically in their conversation. Saying he likes the campus, called it beautiful. And OSU/Mich want him at TE only where ND will feature him split out in the Eifert roll. He makes a point to tell Rob he's never put his hand on the ground before. All in all Rob is reading into it that we made the best impression coming out of the visits without Andrews actually saying it.

Really? I find that kinda shocking

There were some immediate reactions on this board that assumed that he should have gushed more after his ND visit and have an overly pessimistic read in some reports...

That's because ppl overreacted to reports the night of his visit being nothing special. What ppl w/o subscriptions need to understand is these sites give:

1st) A "quick update" which is either a) word from a source about how it went (usually good) or b) a quick scripted line that the prospect sends to all the services

Andrews gave a "quick update" to 247 that was nothing special because u could tell it was scripted. Doesn't mean he particularly liked of disliked the visit

2nd) a full article with quotes

3rd) usually they will add a quick board post that only subscribers to their specific site can read like I think ND "_____" or a source tells me "______"

That's exactly what happened. He said, in a very controlled manner that he really liked ND, BUT that he really liked UM and OSU as well. He was not going to show his cards. People took that as a sign that ND did not make a big enough impression, even though he said he really enjoyed it.

On another note... He came out talking about Eifert, it's funny how Michael Floyd was so 2 years ago! You'd think that is who the coaches would want to sell. Isn't he from Arizona?! :)

It isn't like Eifert was every a monster blocker, but he worked hard at it and sufficed.

I don't think this coaching staff would accept a commitment this early from someone they thought would be one dimensional, and IMO if you are one dimensional it's a good way to not see much playing time throughout your career.

That isn't to say we have kids that are clearly better at one thing that the other, because we do, those guys usually bust their *** to become "good enough" at their weakness.

I don't see why Wesihar won't be able to get the job done.

Combination of Hoods and Hayes doing a fantastic job making a pitch to other potential recruits! This is just fantastic!

Sampson put it a good way on his recruitment:

If u ask Denbrock, he's a WR. If u ask Booker, he's a TE. Either way TE staff absolutely loves this guy

Really? I don't see that at all. Jonathan Baldwin was much more explosive and he went up against better high school competition. JB ran a 4.50 electronic 40 flat at the NFL combine at 6'4" and 228 pounds and he also had a 42 inch vertical. Mark Andrews isn't going to run anywhere near that right now nor after he's spent 3 or 4 years in a college strength program and has put on 25 pounds of muscle. Not sure he's that sort of explosive leaper either.

Mark Andrews is a future TE, and probably the best pass catching TE in the nation.

Agree with everything you said EXCEPT that one of the knocks on Andrews is he doesn't have GREAT hands. Guess he has a rep for dropping some easy ones now and again.

dropping the easy ones aren't a reflection of his hands, more his focus.
