I remember back in the day when this thread was about who our next commit was going to be. #oldschool
And kids didn't wear their hats backwards?

Thanks WJack-off the top of my head, I can see Utupo, Lombard as good bets to return. Based on a variety of factors such as injuries, depth, transfers(!)-and oh yeah, if they get into grad school: maybe Collingsworth, Hendrix, Wood, Moore.
Seniors with remaining eligibility include: Hendrix, Massa, Welch, Heggie, Lombard, Utupo, Nix, Moore, Wood and Collinsworth. My initial guess would be that we'll bring back 3 from that group, but we always end up taking more than expected. I'll say five 5Ys, which would leave 20 spots for incoming freshman.
Pretty sure transfers don't count against the grad rates. And I'm not worried about the one or two guys every couple of years that might go pro early. Shouldn't change the grad rate significantly enough to warrant any sort of concern. My opinion.
depends why they transfer but you are correct in that they don't hurt your grad rate.
OP mentioned transferring to seek more playing time.
My guesses on the liklihood each gets a 5th year offer, based on no other significant roster moves:
- Lombard: 99%
- Moore: 99% (We are not going to send a ILB packing anytime in the near future)
- Hendrix: 80% (QB depth- if he is leaving, we better get a 5th year transfer!)
- Welch: 60% (depends on his health and performce this year)
- Wood: 50% (depends on his performce this year and the development of other other back-ups)
- Collinsworth: 25% (health and safety log jam)
- Utupo: 15%
- Heggie: 5%
- Massa: 5%
- Nix: 1% (NFL)
So my guess would be 3 (Lombard and Moore for sure, Welch/Hendrox maybe), but possible up to 5 (Welch/Hendrix, maybe Wood).
If Hendrix is leaving, they better start getting Malik some serious practice reps!
No attrition from your football program hurts you if those students are academically eligible at the time of the attrition. "Going pro early" and "transferring for playing time" are considered personal lifepath decisions not to be viewed as failures by the University. If the university has done its job {the player is in good academic standing} then it is not punished for personal decisions.
Elijah Hood
Think he pops after his visit this week huh?
I am thinking Nelson. Multiple reports saying he is going to be next mixed with a visit from Harry H. = commitment.

I think Wood is much more likely to comeback than that. I would say at least 75%.
Agreed on all accounts, and the bolded bears special emphasis. We need Hendrix to return for a 5Y in order to maintain ideal QB depth and to provide some veteran leadership for our very young QB corps. I was heartened when TP reported that Hendrix seems to have made some major strides recently. Here's hoping he takes the #2 spot from Rees so he'll consider sticking around.
What if Hendrix makes it apparent that he wants either med school or to play somewhere else, would they consider "redshirting" Rees? Hell he'll probably be back as a GA anyway haha

A kid going pro early shouldn't be viewed as any sort of "failure" but I'm pretty sure it does count against your GSR, right?
Either way, hasn't been much of an issue under Kelly. Only Kyle Rudolph, who only even played half a season for Kelly, has left prior to his senior year as a student. Tuitt certainly mighty, and who knows with some of the incoming freshmen. But so far Kelly has done a very good job recruiting his seniors to stay another year.
No. I can't get the link right now, but as long as an athlete is academically eligible when he leaves, regardless of reason, it doesn't count against GSR.
