I could see Onwualu get some reps at slot too

Actually, the more I think about that the more I like that. He got here early so he will know the offense well by the Temple game.

I kinda agree. He is WAY ahead of schedule as far as recovery is going, I'm interested how he has been doing recently. Him being ready is a real possibility, but him red-shirting is also a real possibilty

IDK it is going to be tough for him. From endurance, to leg strength, and make sure the bone heals 100% and thats before he gets any kind of action with the offense.

We do though. Think how young our guys are corner are. We will only lose Jackson in the next two years at corner eligibility wise (Wood will have a 5th year option), while adding the three from this year and whoever we get in the '14 cycle. That is building quality depth.

True, true, true.

I think I just have Folston-at-CB colored glasses on after the UA game.

I'd honestly be content any way this works out with the depth you bring up.

IMO a femur break is not something you want to even think about rushing. At least not with an incoming unproven freshman who would have likely RS anyway. Every V-buck I have.

He will more than likely red-shirt, but I don't think it would necessarily because of his injury

this is a bad joke, I hope?

Not really. My kid doesn't remember squat from before age 5. Neal is walking away from a scenario that could not only be a game changer for himself but for his unborn kid as well. I understand wanting to be close to family and I'm not knocking the kid but graduating from a place like ND is a bigger deal than I think many people realize. Oh well. Hope he does well in future endeavors.

I don't understand why ND fans think that this stuff only happens to us. Probably because we only pay attention to ND.

Because some (delusional) fans seem to think that every guy that ND recruits is a future All-American.

Sucks, but this is why we recruit lots of athletes!

Do us all a favor and change your name to players who have already graduated.

Gracias amigbro.

They'd live the rest of their lives as USC fans or something. Barf.

Interesting.. Kids don't remember anything from that age anyhow.

It'd be nice for the family as well I'm sure.

And Prosise's move to WR looks better.

We will be fine. I am sure Onwaulu will see significant reps at that spot now, as will Carlisle and Folston when fall camp begins.

It sucks to lose such a talent, but I am not going to cry over a lost slot WR who clearly had his mind elsewhere.

My man.

Btw, Davonte's dad said he is looking at PAC 12 schools and that "a school in California" would be a better fit. I wouldn't be mad if he went to UCLA.

Kelly really need to keep the transfers to a minimum though. This is beginning to be a every year thing. A former 5* guy transferring in the spring.

This is my next slot from this class. Tarean needs to get reps at CB. After seeing him there at the AS game, I was blown away.

I believe Butler and/or Kinlaw are already possibilities at CB as well. We'll have plenty of depth at that position.

As far as the transfer goes, hate to lose two young guys with great potential but our program is finally to the point where we can absorb a few losses like these and be just fine.

Kelly has zero control on who transfers. Sometimes transferring is the best option, as it was in Neal's case. Notre Dame is not for everyone, and sometimes people don't realize that until they are already at the school and attending classes

The part that really bums me out is how engaged Davonte seemed to be and how much fun he appeared to be having. All last year he was in the middle of every celebration, even though he didn't have a huge on field impact. Loved the energy he had and it had to have had a positive impact on the program. That kept going through the start of spring practice. He was the first person to jump on GAIII after the move he put on Day at the end of the rodeo drill.

Is his baby mama in California? If not, I don't really get it... LA is still a 5+ hour drive from Scottsdale... Not like he'd really be that close to "home."

No she is in Arizona but she would probably move to LA. She was supposed to move to South Bend but "Davonte decided it would be better if he went back out west..."

His dad is from CA, he told Sapp he still has contacts there.

Ironically, his Dad was pushing him towards USC at the beginning of his recruitment but the Trojans had no room. So help me God if that is where he is trying to transfer to.....

No way Kelly lets him transfer there.

Only way he could is if he went JC for a year. No way that BK would clear him to transfer there.

This probably won't be a popular view but here it is....

If he is looking at colleges more than 2 hours away, he will not have the family support infrastructure. If that is the case, I'm not buying the be closer to family thing. Sorry. With the Cali direction now in play, I'm changing my tune from thinking he made a good decision based on family, to he may not be happy with PT, depth chart, etc.. The Cali thing just doesn't make sense.

Huge bummer. I was really looking forward to seeing what he could do this year. It's not like I'm super worried about the offense without him, since we've got plenty of athletic guys in the program now, but I was really expecting him to pop this year.

Looks like somebody is going to have pull a KeiVarae Russell and come out of nowhere to seize that spot this year. My money is on Onwualu, actually.
