Is Martini being recruited as one of those linebackers that also plays in the goalline package to catch TDs? Cuz he should be. Man what an athlete.

The scouting services don't seem to be showing a lot of love yet, but every time I watch tape on Greer I get excited. Young man is just a football player. He reminds me of Michael Stonebreaker, a bit of a bully on the field, plays with a high motor and a lot of passion, always seems to be by the football, so many turnovers "wind up" in his hands. I cannot wait for him to get in program.

It's still very early in the recruiting process. The summer is lined up with endless camps and various competitions. He's rated so low more or less due to the fact he committed very early and offers stopped coming in.

Blame Mike Farrel.

It's funny you say that but it's true. Farrell went out to watch Randolph and martini last year. Farrell came away extremely impressed with Randolph but doesn't believe that Martini has the speed to play linebacker at the collegiate level. I bet that stigma has lasted or will last until somebody else sees him in person. He also said that if Martini wants to be a collegiate player he'll need to bulk up and play on the dline. Again he's too slow for linebacker. Not my thoughts these are Farrells from when he scouted him last year.

Can he run a 4.71? Only then can he be an elite linebacker.

Seriously though, if he's really clocked at a 4.7 and has good instincts...

Lucky, not directed @ u per se as I know you're only adding what u know about Farrell, but I trust the staff WAY more then Mike when it comes to the team......

Rivals' ratings of Trumbetti and Martini are both hard to wrap my head around. Their highlight tapes and offer lists seem to warrant more than mid-to-low 3 star ratings.

Don't understand how he isn't a as good (probably better) prospect then Deeb. He's bigger and more athletic than Deeb was as a Junior.

When you watch his tape, you realize either the services will come around later, or we just got the sleeper of the year. BK and staff are right on this one!

Deeb was only a :s::s::s::s: on ESPN though. Or at least for a long time.

Completely agree, just putting some info out there. I like rivals for interviews and a different perspective but I think their evaluations are slipping for sure

trumbetti is the highest possible rating for a 3 star, so it's possible he could be bumped to a four sometime his senior year

greer on the other hand is the lowest possible 3 star rating, so he'd have to be exceptional at camps and Sr film to get a 4th, not that it matters...2 of the other 4 main sites have him as a 4 star and our staff wants him and Bama recruited him too....all i need to know

Greer competed at the NFTC camp at the Redskins facility. Measured 6'3" 230, said he moved "great in space", "lateral movement was impressive and was comfortable and effective dropping into coverage." I don't buy it but they said if he keeps filling out he could grow into a DE.

Glad to hear some positive news on Greer. However these remarks are interesting because Farrell said DE was the best chance for him to play in college but because he couldn't do all those things that were mentioned. I look forward to Greer proving that Dbag wrong.

No doubt. When asked what he thought he could work on the most he said pass rushing because he doesn't do a lot of it at MLB, and when he does the scheme helps him get there clean.

D.C. Nike Football Training Camp: Elite defensive talent

3- Greer Martini, Woodberry Forest (Va.)- The camp setting isn’t the best spot for bigger, physical linebackers to show off their highest upside, but Martini held his own. If you just saw him walking down the street, you would not think elite football prospect, but his film and what he showed Sunday says otherwise. Martini, who currently is rated as the No. 19 outside linebacker prospect in the 2014 class (though after seeing him, inside linebacker may be more appropriate), is committed to Notre Dame.

Number two is a 2015 prospect, probably why he's not rated.

And the article specifically states "The camp setting isn’t the best spot for bigger, physical linebackers to show off their highest upside, but Martini held his own" . . .

Manti T'eo appeared to be a mediocre prospect at the NFL combine. He plays pretty good football.

Totally agree. I've said this before in this thread. Greer is always near the football, reminds me of Michael Stonebreaker or Manti last year, if there is a fumble or a bobbled pass the ball just winds up in Greer's hands. He is an intelligent football player, I am not concerned how he comes off in 7 on 7's or camp settings.

We need athleticism at the MLB. I really hope the evals on him are correct in saying he could project as an MLB. This kid is the prototype size for the position in this defense. He can put on 15 pounds and be a beast.

He just has to show that he can learn enough to be the QB of the D and be a player in coverage.

This kid's prototype MBL size does not amount to success. He does not have the football instincts or speed to compete against SEC, ACC athletes. For Martini, football will be a spectator sport. He will join Anthony Rabasa on the Notre Dame bench.

Haha ok man. He's a bench rider before he even gets to campus, huh?

I said nothing about success. I said I hope a few things are or become true.

Yikes. Easy man. People were saying the same things about Keuchly before he played a down. They remind me a lot of each other. Let the coaches coach him up and see what he becomes before entirely writing him off.
