If all we lose is AA from this Kelly stunt but he gets some of the changes he is supposedly seeking then i'll take it. I think keeping top assistants around out weighs the lose of AA and its not even close.

Even more than that, if Kelly gets an agreement from the BoT to fundamentally change certain aspects of admission, it'd be worth it literally 100x over.

Ok so a lot of you said you would not be upset with BK until we started losing recruits is this the first of 3-4? Before going off it is just a question. I have been busy all day so is BK still playing games or is he our coach for 2013?

Don't blame a kid for what he learned from his parents.

And I have known lots that don't get out from under that kind of influence ever. It is my experience when you talk about bad parenting, that once the parent backs off, the child continues on taking over for the absent parent, searching to keep order in their world, as they understand it.

(PS. At minimum there is an overwhelming passive/agressive component, or covertness in this case. There probably is an intention to mislead, and well could be a controlling and manipulative authoritarian component as well. But we will never know.)

Well said Bogs. The parental influence is written all over this. We are the sum of all of our decisions in life. How he (and his parents) approached this decision will be how he handles difficult decisions (and how he rolls) for the rest of his life. It's never been about why he did this, it's been about how. I hope that he finds happiness and fulfillment at Florida.

@ZachAbolverdi:
#Gators LB commit Alex Anzalone has reported to #UF for early enrollment.

And so passes Alex Anzalone, son of Sal Anzalone.

Good luck Alex.

Here's a counter-example for everyone:

Bennett Okotcha committed to ND. Late in the cycle, he got an offer from Oklahoma. When asked about it, he didn't spout a bunch of BS... he said he would think about it. Then he thought about it and switched his commit to the school he preferred.

NO ONE got upset about that. Everyone said "gosh, that's a bummer, good luck Bennett." It's the same as in business where if you get a job offer you're expect to give 2 weeks notice, etc.

In business it's not OK for your boss to find your resume on the printer, then you lie to him about it, then you make a public announcement to maybe the team you're managing that "don't believe any rumors I'm 100% not leaving before this project is complete," and then tell your boss "no, seriously, you don't have to worry about looking for a replacement project manager"...... all the while you have the full intention of leaving for another firm, then at the last possible second before a very important deadline you quit the company for one of their competitors after over the previous weekend hanging out and talking with all of your coworkers about how awesome it's going to ace is this project and promising all of them that you're DEFINITELY going to be turning in your portion of the deliverable.

If someone did this in the business world, people would go "What the eff is wrong with that guy? That's totally unacceptable. What a douche." And that's exactly what's happening here. In the professional world this is the kind of conduct that would haunt you for YEARS if you ever tried to move jobs again in the same realm.

Anyways... just want to make the distinction clear for those trying to equate this to Gunner or other recruits.

I completely agree with your recent points on this, with one small variation: as much as I dislike what he did, and as much as I agree it reveals a fickleness that may well tie to a lack of character, I probably wouldn't go so far as to call it a "lie." As I read his tweets earlier this week, I just can't think of a self-interested reason a kid would say all those things, unless he meant them at the time. I mean, there was no reason for him to "lie" in that context. So I don't think what he has said are lies; I think he's an unstable, fickle kid, who is immature, possibly to the point of it being a character defect. I don't know, maybe I'm navel gazing and it's a distinction without a difference.

He waited until the last minute to do this and IMO was planned all along. It sucks but I'm more interested in the kids that want to be here. Wish you nothing but the best AA but I hope ND and UF meet up while you are there and I hope it's a miserable day for you. I mean that in the nicest way!

As opposed to playing the game like him:

No, I think you are totally right. I doubt he was lying, exactly. He felt sure one day and unsure the next. The issue was that he didn't have the maturity, like you say, to know that that meant he was never really sure.

But I think Lax's level of outrage is justified here. That sort of fickleness is not ok to the extreme that AA took it.

Understand, I will always defend a kid's right to change his mind. If AA had flipped in November when he was considering it, I would not be the least bit angry about it.

But after being assured that so long as he is solid we are not recruiting any other ILBs, he reaffirmed to us and stated that he was shutting his recruitment down, and I'm not aware of any changed circumstances in the two months since. I'm certain that when I was 17 I understood that there came a point when people were relying on me to make a firm decision about something, and that it would be wrong of me to change my mind after that point, because it would put them in a difficult spot, and would make a liar of me. The discussions in November were serious enough that AA reached that point when he reaffirmed, and he reneged anyway. Not ok

good points you make, and agreed. The example someone raised of the guy who went to OK is a good one. At some point, you have character and stand by decisions you made, even at 18 years old.

First of all the kid and his father are flakey, that being said where is BK right now?

Are you serious? BK is trying to win concessions from the university that will get us over the hump and make us a championship team. Check the thread on that.

Probably writing Muschamp a thank you note for having a more embarrassing bowl loss than he did.

I am sure that will help Muschamp sleep at night. Alex has been looking for a way of of his commitment for a long time and BK gave him the excuse he wanted. A 50 year old man is not showing commitment but people expect an 18 year old to.

You're on thin ice, GATOR. If you'd like to educate yourself on the BK situation, read the thread on it.

Polish Leppy shared the info below with me via PM, since Alex's thread has been closed. Tentatively opening it again since tempers have likely cooled.

1) Friends of the Anzalone fam (former teammates) are SHOCKED the fam pushed him to Florida instead of a school like Stanford or ND. They don't see him playing in the NFL, but is a real bright kid. Teammates liked him a lot, too. With all the publicity and hype, he always was a team guy.

2) It was never the kid's call as to which school he was going to. Papa pulled the strings.

3) Papa (a doctor) stopped his practice here in PA and moved the whole family down to Gainesville. They are all in on Alex going NFL. Alex is really happy at UF.

Worth keeping in mind, especially as it relates to the Barnett decomittment. We're usually not privy to what's driving these decisions, so we should be slow to condemn the recruits themselves.

Not to be "That Guy" but those numbers weren't available when the decision is made. You probably should have used 2013 data. Actually probably should be 2012 data as he would have had to made his decision before the 2013 draft.

Even then, twice as many ND players were selected in the 2012 Draft (4) than Florida players (2).

It's sad that this kid's dad is smart enough to be a doctor but not smart enough to google the statistics regarding how many college football players actually make it to the NFL:

While many young people every year set their goals on becoming NFL players, it is extremely difficult to reach that level. Statistically of the 100,000 high school seniors who play football every year, only 215 will ever make an NFL roster. That is 0.2%! Even of the 9,000 players that make it to the college level only 310 are invited to the NFL scouting combine, the pool from which teams make their draft picks. As you can see, most people who want to become NFL players will not. Therefore it is very important to come up with alternative plans for the future.
https://www.nflplayers.com/About-us/FAQs/NFL-Hopeful-FAQs/

But sure... roll the dice and sell your practice. Move your whole family for 4 years in hopes that your son will be that lucky 0.2% that will make the show.

Tactical.

Please remember Papa was a UF alum and the family has always been in love with the Gators. Emotion can sometimes get in the way of logic.
