Alex Smith Traded to KC
Jay Glazer ‏@JayGlazer
Deal has been agreed upon between Chiefs and 49ers. Compensation unclear but I'm told again Chiefs have made a clear commitment to Smith.

Guess Brady's run is done in KC.

The new regime came in, reviewed what they had, what was available in free agency, and went to the combine....Then, made this deal.

Tells me all I need to know.

They got the best guy available to them right now.

And this time next year they'll be looking for another QB, minus a draft pick (if they indeed gave up a 2014 pick)

I am not a KC fan, but do you go after Smith, or wait until next year to snag a QB from what looks to be a great class coming out? Their team is more than a QB away. Why not build around the QB spot this year and get one next year?

As a Chiefs fan I love this move! KC actually has more talent than their record indicates. Team is instantly much more competitive with Alex at the helm. I was hoping this was direction KC would go since it became clear Alex would not be sticking around with the Niners. I love the move because I think Alex Smith is actually a very solid, underrated QB and bc this year's prospects were very underwhelming. Now can pick up Joekel with 1st pick and try and find a QB in later rounds. Great move imo.

You know Schefter is walking around Bristol all butt hurt. I have nothing to base my opinion on, but I bet he is a first-class weasel.

Heard this at combine and makes ton of sense. 49ers use one of their zillion draft picks on SC RB Marcus Lattimore. 49ers and Lattimore could use 2013 as redshirt season. Let him heal, then turn it loose in '14.

Right there with ya, bud! I know a lot of KC whiners hate this and wanted Geno but I love this move. Geno isn't Luck or RGIII so I never wanted him with the #1 overall... dude ain't worth it. Happy day!

Chiefs are a lot closer than some of the other teams down at the bottom. I'm curious, Chiefs fans, who do you want with #1 pick now?

Yeah Geno at #1 would have been a big reach.

I think going with Luke Joekel is best route. Need a solid lineman and seems best bet not to be a bust.

In a perfect world what I would like to happen now is trade down w/ the Jets, get Revis. Draft Warmack, and resign Albert. Fix your cornerback spot, get arguably the best player in the draft but you can't take him 1st b/c he's a guard (stupid unwritten rule), and have a pretty damn good o-line immediately.

That would be a nasty oline. They are prolly gonna have to part ways with one of albert or bowe either way. I would say keep albert as well and draft a couple mid round wideouts

Just going to ditch Albert then?

Nothing against Albert, but I would rather lose Albert replace him with Joeckel and keep Bowe than lose Bowe and keep Albert.

I think with their cap room they could keep both, just depends on if they want to give Albert Left tackle money. That's what he wants, and will seek out, but if they see him as a right tackle or a guard it won't work out. Should continue to be an exciting off-season.

Long time between now and March 12th when the deal could be finalized.

Good running game. Not a bad move. If Eifert is still around at the first of the second round be a nice weapon to have.
